Chapter Thirty-One

Two days later everyone met in the Record Keepers library.

They were all well rested and ready to set up a game plan for the next steps.

The Sentinels sat around the fireplace on the various couches, chairs, and areas of the floor while the Elders sat at the desks, with scrolls and notebooks opened in front of them.

“Okay, so we have the first Guardian, her familiar, the seeds for her flower, as well as the secret grove, which has closed again. I went back to see if I could get a picture of the sigils, but it wasn’t letting me in.

We all concur that it’s probably only open when needed, so more than likely won’t see it again until it’s time for the ritual,” Marcus started.

“We know Earth is the next step and the Guardian there will be a loyal protector but that’s the extent of our knowledge.

Now, Aiden and Bréagha’s books were hidden until it was time to fetch them.

We can assume that the Earth Guardian, as well as the rest, are hidden until it's time for us to go to them,” Lily continued.

“We’ll send Jaxx’s team in when we know where to look since it’ll be his Guardian. He can call Killian and his team in when needed,” declared Drago from his spot under a window. He didn’t have scrolls or books around him, just a cup of coffee.

“Rozengwyn will keep a close eye on all of you and can portal you instantly when needed,” Colin added. Jaxx nodded, not concerned. He would go in, grab his Guardian and come right back, simple. Oh if only he knew.

“We do know that the sigils are in that order for a reason, and that will be how the flowers are laid out when the time comes. I’m sure the Garden still has many secrets for us, all of which will be given to us when it’s time.

I think in the past few weeks we’ve read every word on these shelves, and we’re still limited on our knowledge,” said Lily as she waved at the bookshelves around her.

“Yes, just as Bréagha’s book is being written a couple chapters behind, the Garden is telling us that too much knowledge isn’t helpful. The journey and the choices made are more important than us knowing what’s happening,” answered Marcus.

“So, we’re all going in blind?” asked Bréagha to clarify. “Do I go with Jaxx’s team when they go?”

“No, you’ll stay here while Jaxx and his team feel out the situation.

I would rather not risk all the Guardians at once.

I think a Sentinel team will go in each time and the Guardians as well as the other Sentinels can go in as needed, if that makes sense,” answered Drago. Bréagha nodded her understanding.

“When you are outside of this Garden, the shadows and Lucien will be able to attack at any time. We want to minimize the damage he can do,” Colin said.

“Makes sense. I’m just worried that these guys will show up and scare the living daylights out of the poor girl and give her a half assed explanation like we got,” responded Bréagha glaring at Killian, who sat next to the fireplace.

He glanced over at her and arched an eyebrow, completely unrepentant.

“I actually have some skill at talking to people,” Jaxx said. Killian shot his brother the finger which caused Bréagha to chuckle.

“Don’t forget the magic of a newborn’s giggle though. That’s important,” laughed Bréagha, sending Killian an air kiss when he growled.

“Again, that’s what Roz told me to say,” he protested trying to throw the blame elsewhere.

“Hey! If you had told them the speech the correct way that would’ve made sense!” Roz interjected from her spot on the couch next to Bréagha, sipping on her pumpkin spice latte.

“Maybe we need to sit down and spell it out, because we’re going to have to do this at least seven times. Make it more streamlined,” suggested Donegal as he sipped on one of the new teas the girls had brought him from their flea market trip.

“That is a great idea!” exclaimed Marcus, writing a note for himself. “Lily and I’ll work out the wording.”

“So, we just wait until something shows us where to go?” asked Jaxx.

“I think so, yes. It’s not like we can throw you on Earth and hope you bump into the Guardian,” said Isadora.

“That would make this a bit more efficient though, right?” Bracken inserted. “I mean just pick a place and drop us down and see what happens.”

Drago and Colin chuckled. Leave it to Bracken to try and make it simpler than it was.

“No, you’ll all continue to train, practice your new situation with your soul-bonded animals. As soon as we know where you’ll be going, we’ll let you know,” insisted Marcus.

“Business as usual then? So back to Killian trying to kill me?” whined Bréagha. She glanced over as he muttered under his breath. “I mean ‘training’.”

“With your fire and Sperwa, why don’t you try to kill him?” spoke up Cathal from his spot on the floor next to Bréagha.

“Ooohhh...I love that idea!” Bréagha exclaimed. She jumped up. “As a matter of fact, I feel like we should go train right now! Too bad I can’t just teleport myself…like close my eyes, picture where I want to go and whoo…”

Everyone gasped and jumped to their feet as Bréagha disappeared in a bright flash of red and orange.

“Soul-bonded!” screeched Sperwa who had been resting on the back of the couch where Bréagha had been sitting.

There was another red and orange flash and Bréagha stood in the library across from where she had been standing. She bent over laughing.

“Oh my god you guys! I can teleport! Watch!” She popped out again in a flash, then seconds later popped back in holding a flower from near her hot springs.

“What? How?” They all gasped as they stared at the Guardian.

“Of course you can, because of course.” Killian and Aiden both said, beyond being surprised by Bréagha at this point.

“Can you take someone with you?” Roz asked. Bréagha grabbed her arm and they both disappeared, just to reappear a few seconds later. The girls jumped around in a circle laughing as the rest of the room reeled at this new development.

“What about creating a portal? Can you do that?” Roz asked.

“Don’t you draw a rune in the air or something?” Roz grabbed a piece of paper and drew the portal rune.

“Concentrate on where you are wanting to go, draw this rune in the air and then throw your magic into it with your wand.” She instructed and Bréagha did as she said, thinking about the clearing outside her cottage.

She threw her red/orange magic at the rune she drew, and a portal opened, swirling red and orange magic.

Bracken, who was standing closest, just shot them all a wink and walked through.

He came back a few seconds later, soaking wet.

“Did you mean to create the portal inside the stream outside your cottage?” he asked. Bréagha covered her mouth as she giggled. She waved her wand at him to dry him off.

“I’ll need to work on that one a bit,” she said.

“It seems the Guardian has many special skills,” mused Marcus.

“Yes, and I’m sure we aren’t done discovering them,” smiled Lily.

“The Awakening has just started,” inserted Sperwa. “This is truly just the beginning.”
