34. Chapter 34
The shadows inside the Jester’s cell were always cold, but today, the air felt thick, suffocating, and charged with an electric desperation. My final week at Blackthorne was ticking away like a countdown, and the sheer panic of losing this—of losing him—had driven me straight back into the cage.
I was pressed flat against the rough, concrete floor in the deepest corner of the cell, my uniform trousers pooled around my ankles. Above me, the cold stone ceiling swam in my blurred vision, but below my waist, everything was a roaring, brilliant wildfire.
The Jester was on his knees between my legs, his strong hands hooked firmly under my thighs, pinning me to the floor.
His dark hair was a wild halo, brushing against the pale skin of my inner thighs every time he moved.
He was taking his time, deliberately torturing me with a slow, agonizingly wet stroke of his skillful tongue that had my hips lifting off the concrete entirely on instinct.
"Ah—" A ragged gasp tore from my throat, echoing sharply in the confined space.
"Shh, doll," the Jester murmured against my skin, his voice a low, gravelly vibration that sent a shudder straight up my spine.
He lifted his head just enough to look up at me, his eyes gleaming with a terrifyingly beautiful hunger.
"We wouldn't want the other guards to come in and spoil our fun, would we?
I really don't want to get blood on my hands today, but if anyone saw you undressed, I'd have to pry their eyes out. "
I gripped the hem of his coarse orange jumpsuit, my knuckles turning white as he leaned back down. This time, he didn't tease. He buried his face between my thighs, his tongue flattening out, pressing deep and firm against my slick, aching core.
A sharp sob caught in my chest. He knew exactly what he was doing. He knew the precise cadence to make me lose my mind.
"Look at you," he purred, breaking away for a fraction of a second to look at the wreckage he was making of me.
His fingers slid upward, tracing the sensitive skin of my stomach, teasing the edge of my unbuttoned shirt.
"You are so beautiful like this–all flushed and trembling under me.
You look like a queen on a throne, Elara. "
"Please," I choked out, the word a pathetic whimpering plea. My hands left his jumpsuit to knot directly into his hair, alternately pushing him away and pulling him closer.
I was a mass of contradictions, drowning in a sea of overwhelming sensation.
"Please, I need..."
"Say my name," he commanded softly, his thumb finding my clitoris and circling it with a cruel, devastating precision. "Let me hear it from those pretty lips of yours, doll."
"I can't—"
"You can," he whispered fiercely against my skin. "Open up for me. Give me everything. You’re so tight, so sweet. You taste like a sin I’d commit a thousand times over, sweetface.
Now be a good girl for me, hm? Remember, bad girls get punished.
" As if on cue, he delivered a playful yet pointed spank to my thigh, and I bit my lip to keep back the moan.
“O-Okay…I need you, Jester…”
Pleased, he resumed his assault with a sudden, demanding ferocity.
His tongue flicked faster, tracing the sensitive folds, drinking me in as I began to unravel.
The friction of his thumb coupled with the relentless, soaking pressure of his mouth was entirely too much.
The numbness that usually protected me from the world was completely incinerated, leaving nothing but raw, blistering nerve endings.
"That's it," the Jester murmured against me, his breath hot and ragged as he felt my thighs begin to shake uncontrollably against his shoulders. "Let it go, Elara. Every beautiful, broken piece of you is mine."
The tension in my lower stomach coiled tighter and tighter, a spring wound to the point of snapping.
My head thrashed against the hard floor, my breaths coming in short, desperate hitches.
The world outside these walls—Emma, the motel, the news, the suffocating reality of my life—all ceased to exist. There was only the cold floor beneath me, the fiery heat of the Jester between my legs, and the impending shatter.
"Please, now—" I cried out, my hips rolling helplessly into his mouth.
"Come for me, doll," he growled softly, capturing my centered heat with one final, suctioning press of his lips.
A violent, white-hot spasm ripped through my entire body.
I arched my back, a ruined, breathless scream dying in the back of my throat as my climax crashed over me in deafening waves.
My thighs clamped tightly around his head, pulsing rhythmically as he held me through the tremor, continuing to lick at the residual heat, drawing out every last drop of my pleasure until I was completely undone, weeping softly into the silence of the cell.
The tremors in my thighs slowly subsided, leaving me completely hollowed out, staring up at the stained concrete ceiling. My breath hitched in jagged, uneven intervals, the stark chill of the cell floor finally seeping through the fabric of my unbuttoned uniform shirt.
The Jester didn’t move away.
Instead, he shifted his weight with an unexpected, fluid gentleness, sliding up my body until he lay flush against my side.
His long, calloused fingers reached up, curling into the tangled strands of my hair.
He began to stroke it, his touch remarkably tender, smoothing the damp locks away from my forehead with a rhythmic, hypnotic slowness.
It was an embrace that felt entirely too soft for a maximum-security cell, entirely too human for the Jester.
For a few seconds, the rhythmic rise and fall of his chest against mine almost felt like safety.
Then, he leaned down, his lips brushing the shell of my ear as he breathed out a low, raspy whisper.
"You know that no matter what happens, you're mine. Right?"
There was a strange, unsettling distortion in his tone—a possessive weight that made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, cutting right through the warm, hazy afterglow of the climax.
I went completely rigid in his arms, my eyes darting to his in the dim light. He was smiling, but it was fixed, his gaze locked onto mine with a terrifying, absolute certainty that made me wonder if he already somehow knew about my resignation.
I froze, my throat locking up as I stared into those bottomless, perceptive eyes. I didn't know what to say. The tenderness of his stroke suddenly felt less like a comfort and more like a velvet noose tightening around my neck.
The Jester’s smile never wavered. Slowly, he shifted his hand, trailing two long fingers down my cheek before resting them against my swollen lower lip where he traced the contour of my mouth with a deliberate pressure that made my skin prickle.
"This was never just about the physical, sweetface," he murmured. "You think you're just a distraction to pass the time? No. This is something more. Something deeper."
His fingers moved from my lips, framing my jaw, his thumb pressing just firmly enough against my pulse point to let me know he could feel my heart racing.
"I don't like sharing my belongings," he continued, his gaze dropping to my mouth before locking back onto my eyes with a sudden intensity. "And no matter what happens out there—no matter what things are said, or what moves are made—you are mine. Got it?"
A cold dread pooled in my stomach. The hair on my arms stood on end as he leaned closer, his breath warm against my cheek. He was suffocating me, pinning me down with an invisible weight that felt far heavier than the iron bars surrounding us.
"Tell me you understand, Elara," he prodded softly, fingers tightening just a fraction around my jaw. "Let me hear you say it."
My mind raced, charting a chaotic map of panic.
Does he know? But how could he know I’m leaving?
The confusion was a dizzying, frantic fog in my head.
None of this made sense. He was a prisoner, locked behind three layers of reinforced steel, and I was a cleaner with a golden ticket out of this hellhole.
Then, a sudden, grounding thought pierced through the panic.
It doesn't matter.
I had exactly two days left at Blackthorne. Two more shifts, and I would walk out of these gates forever, taking that dingy motel job and never looking back. He couldn't touch me outside these walls. I could lie through my teeth, play along with whatever twisted delusion kept him calm.
And then vanish.
But even as the plan solidified in my head, a sharp, familiar ache bloomed right behind my ribs. It was a heavy, suffocating weight, a physical warning sign from a heart that had already taken too many beatings.
Cut the cord, Elara, I told myself, the command silent and fierce. Cut it right now before it grows another single root.
I couldn't let his shifting eyes, his proximity, or whatever twisted, unspoken dynamic had webbed between us over these months pull me in any deeper.
If I allowed myself to feel the full gravity of this moment—to let it become anything more emotional, any more complex than a survival tactic—it would destroy me.
The strange, terrifying pull of his attention wasn't a lifeline; it was a noose.
Every second I lingered in his orbit, every time I let my thoughts loop back to him, I was feeding a fire that would eventually burn me alive.
My sanity was hanging by a frayed, fragile thread, and the only way to save it was to sever the connection completely.
No pity, no hatred, no nothing. Just cold, calculated distance.
The sooner I could end this, the sooner I could put these reinforced steel walls in my rearview mirror and leave him to rot in the dark, the better.
I swallowed down the ache, locking it away in the furthest, darkest corner of my mind. I forced my expression into a blank, unreadable mask, taking a slow, steadying breath. Two days. Just forty-eight more hours of playing the part, and then I would sever the tie for good.
I forced my tense muscles to relax, offering a hesitant, submissive nod.
"Okay," I whispered, my voice barely carrying over the hum of the prison ventilation. "I understand. I'm yours."
The Jester stared at me for a long, agonizing beat, searching my face for the lie. Finally, the tension in his shoulders bled away, and that familiar, wicked smirk returned to his lips.
He kissed my forehead.
Entirely unaware that I was already halfway out the door.
