Chapter 5 Sharp Words
Second Aunt's face turned red with anger. "I am doing this for your own good!"
"How can you not know what is good for you?"
Pei Zhao gave a light laugh. "Second Aunt, do not be angry."
"If you die from anger, Second Uncle will marry another wife. That would be a great loss."
Second Aunt shot to her feet.
She pointed at Pei Zhao. "You dare curse me!"
Pei Zhao looked frightened and bowed. "How would your nephew dare?"
"I only said it for your own good, to remind you to take care of your health."
"Second Aunt must not misunderstand me."
I could not hold back a small laugh.
Second Aunt roared, "This is rebellion!"
Only then did Madam Pei stand up to calm things. "Suizhi is still a child. Second Sister-in-law, why argue with him?"
She gave us a look, signaling us to leave quickly.
I followed Pei Zhao into the courtyard and thanked him.
He ignored me.
I stayed close beside him and muttered, "Today did not go well, but at least Madam Pei has a gentle temper."
"Second Aunt lives in the next courtyard anyway. From now on I will only interact with Madam Pei—"
He suddenly stopped.
I nearly crashed into him.
Pei Zhao said, "She is nothing but a smiling tiger."
"You had better stay far away from everyone in this house."
"Including me."
I froze for a long time, then lifted my skirt and chased after him. "Why?"
He said nothing and walked faster.
I broke into a run.
He stopped again.
This time I slammed hard into his back.
My nose stung and my eyes turned red instantly.
Pei Zhao asked, "Why are you following me?"
I covered my nose and blurted out, "Who else would I follow if not you?"
"Even if I go drink at the brothel?"
I fell silent.
Tears swam in my eyes. I did not dare speak.
His brows drew together.
He walked away quickly.
