8. Trials and Doubts

Trials and Doubts

The glow from that first true breeding lasted longer than I expected, a warm hum beneath my skin that carried me through the next several days.

My body responded eagerly—breasts fuller each morning, nipples leaking almost constantly now, even between sessions.

The collar around my throat felt like a second heartbeat, the silver ring cool against my pulse whenever I moved.

Marcus kept me close during those early days after, his hands always finding some part of me to touch: a palm resting on the small of my back as we walked the pastures, fingers tracing the curve of my hip while we ate, his mouth brushing the shell of my ear when he whispered praise that made me shiver.

But the outside world refused to stay outside forever.

It arrived in the form of a sleek black SUV rolling up the gravel drive just after lunch on a bright Thursday.

I was in the sunroom off the kitchen, stretched out on a cushioned chaise with my robe open to the waist, letting the warmth soak into my swollen breasts while Mara knelt beside me, gently expressing a few stubborn drops from my right nipple into a small glass vial for the afternoon tasting.

The motion was slow, intimate, her thumb and forefinger rolling in perfect rhythm until milk beaded, then streamed in a thin white ribbon.

I sighed, hips shifting lazily against the chaise.

The doorbell chimed—sharp, intrusive. Mara paused, glancing toward the hall.

“That’s not one of ours,” she murmured.

I sat up slowly, pulling the robe closed but not tying it. My breasts still leaked through the silk, leaving dark wet patches that clung transparently to my skin. Curiosity—and a faint prickle of unease—drew me to the foyer.

Marcus was already there, opening the door. A woman in her late twenties stood on the threshold: tailored blazer, pencil skirt, heels that looked ridiculous on the flagstone. Her dark hair was pulled into a severe chignon; her expression was all sharp angles and barely concealed impatience.

“Yvette?” she said the moment she saw me, voice carrying across the marble like a courtroom objection. “Jesus, I’ve been calling for days. Your phone’s dead or something?”

Claire. My oldest friend from law school, the one who still texted me memes about billable hours and sent passive-aggressive articles about burnout. We hadn’t spoken since I’d told her I was taking “extended leave” to handle the estate. I hadn’t told her why.

“Claire.” My voice came out softer than I intended. “What are you doing here?”

She stepped inside without invitation, eyes sweeping the foyer—the high ceilings, the polished wood, the faint sweet scent that clung to everything—before landing on me.

Her gaze snagged on the open robe, the visible swell of my breasts, the damp silk clinging to hardened nipples.

Then lower, to the leather collar circling my throat.

Her mouth opened, closed, opened again. “What the actual fuck, Yvette?”

Marcus moved subtly to my side, a solid wall of calm. “Ms. Chastain is resting. Perhaps you’d like to explain why you’re here unannounced.”

Claire ignored him, stepping closer. “I drove four hours because you ghosted everyone. The firm’s worried—you vanished, no explanation, no return date.

Your condo lease is up next month; they’re asking me to pack your shit if you don’t respond.

And now I find you… like this?” She gestured vaguely at my body, at the collar, at the way milk had begun to bead again at my nipples simply from the tension of the moment.

“What is this place? Some kind of cult? Are you okay?”

The words stung more than I expected. I wrapped my arms around myself, suddenly aware of how exposed I felt—not naked, but seen in a way the herd never made me feel. Judged.

“I’m fine,” I said quietly. “Better than fine.”

Claire laughed, short and sharp. “You look like you’ve been… I don’t even know. Brainwashed? Drugged? Look at you—you’re leaking. That’s not normal, Yv.”

Mara appeared silently in the hallway behind me, robe tied loosely, expression serene but watchful. Lila drifted in next, then Sophie. They didn’t speak; they simply stood, a quiet wall of support. Claire’s eyes flicked to them, widening.

“Okay, this is insane,” she muttered. “I’m getting you out of here. Right now.”

Marcus’s hand settled lightly on my lower back—steady, grounding. “Yvette makes her own choices.”

Claire rounded on him. “And you are?”

“The farm manager. And her partner.”

The word landed like a stone in still water. Partner. Not master, not keeper—partner. Something inside me unclenched at the sound of it.

Claire stared between us, color rising in her cheeks. “You’ve known her for what, three weeks? And you’re fucking her while she’s… lactating? This is exploitation. She’s vulnerable?—”

“Stop.” The word came out sharper than I meant.

Everyone stilled. I stepped forward, letting the robe fall open again—not in defiance, but in honesty.

Milk trickled slowly down the curve of one breast; I didn’t wipe it away.

“You don’t get to come here and decide what’s best for me.

You don’t know what I needed. You never asked. ”

Claire’s eyes glistened. “I’m your friend. I’m worried.”

“You’re scared,” I corrected gently. “Because this doesn’t fit in your world. It doesn’t fit in mine either—not the old one. But it fits me now.”

She looked at my breasts again, at the steady drip, at the way my body arched instinctively toward Marcus’s touch when his hand slid to my hip. “You’re not even wearing a bra. You’re… producing milk. Like an animal.”

The word hung there. I felt the herd tense behind me, but no one moved to defend. They waited for me.

“I am,” I said simply. “And I love it.”

Silence stretched, thick and uncomfortable. Claire’s shoulders slumped. “I don’t understand.”

“You don’t have to.” I reached out, touched her arm lightly. “But I’m not leaving. Not yet. Maybe not ever.”

She searched my face for a long moment. Then she nodded once—small, defeated. “Call me when you’re ready to come home. Or… if you need anything. I’ll still pack your condo if you want. Or not. Whatever.”

She turned to go. At the door she paused, glancing back. “You look… different. Not bad different. Just… not you.”

“I’m still me,” I told her. “Just more.”

The door closed behind her with a soft click. The foyer felt suddenly too quiet.

Marcus turned me toward him, cupping my face. “You okay?”

I nodded, but tears burned anyway. Not from regret—from the sudden clarity of how far I’d come, how completely the old life had stopped fitting.

My breasts ached fiercely now, the emotional surge triggering a strong let-down.

Milk streamed freely, soaking the front of the robe, dripping onto the marble in soft patters.

Mara stepped forward first, taking my hand. “Come. Let’s take care of you.”

They led me back to the sunroom. The chaise was still warm from earlier.

I lay back, robe falling completely open.

The herd surrounded me—soft hands, warm mouths, gentle tongues lapping at the spilled milk, soothing the ache.

Lila suckled one nipple while Sophie worked the other, slow and reverent.

Mara straddled my thigh, rocking gently while she massaged my belly.

Elise knelt at my head, stroking my hair, whispering that I was safe, that I was wanted, that I was theirs.

Marcus watched from the doorway for a long moment, then joined us.

He knelt between my legs, parted my thighs, and buried his face there—tongue slow and thorough, lapping at the slickness that had gathered while the others nursed me.

The combination—mouths on my breasts, tongue on my clit, hands everywhere—built me up slowly this time, no rush, no demand.

When I came it was quiet, deep, rolling through me like a tide rather than a storm.

Milk surged with it, flooding mouths and throats until everyone was slick and sated.

Afterward we lay tangled together on the wide chaise, skin cooling in the afternoon sun.

My doubts hadn’t vanished—they lingered like faint shadows—but they felt smaller now, manageable.

The herd’s warmth pressed against me from every side, Marcus’s arm heavy across my waist, his breath steady against my neck.

I wasn’t running anymore.

I was choosing.

Every day.

Every drop.
