Chapter 40

The silence of the resort bungalow was broken only by the rhythmic sound of the sea in the background.

Our daughter slept peacefully in the crib set up in the adjoining room, her soft, steady breathing lulled by the exhaustion of the day at the beach.

The atmosphere exuded a stillness that contrasted with the intensity of the events of the past few hours.

I was on the balcony, watching the stars that were beginning to dot the night sky of the Northeast. The memory of Eduardo kneeling in the sand, stripped of all his former arrogance and handing me control of our future, still echoed through me.

His vulnerability had broken down the last barriers in my heart.

The chasm that had separated us had been bridged—not with empty promises, but with the irrefutable proof of a man who had dismantled himself to win me back.

The glass door slid open smoothly, and Eduardo appeared.

He was wearing only light linen pants, his bare chest illuminated by the room’s dim light.

His gaze, when it met mine, carried a silent reverence.

Eduardo did not approach immediately; he stopped a few steps away from me, waiting for my invitation, respecting my space as he had done every single day since our daughter’s birth.

“Yasmin has fallen asleep,” he murmured, his deep, velvety voice breaking the silence. “The sea did her good.”

“It did us all good,” I replied, turning toward him.

I approached him slowly, closing the distance that had once seemed insurmountable.

When I stopped in front of him, I raised my hand and traced the line of his jaw, feeling his warm skin and the slight roughness of his stubble.

Eduardo closed his eyes, tilted his face toward my touch, and let out a long sigh, like a man who had been trapped underwater and finally found air.

“You don’t need to be afraid anymore, Eduardo.

” My voice was gentle but filled with conviction.

“The monster you feared you had become died in that storm. I see the man standing before me now, who cares for our daughter in the wee hours of the morning, who built a safe home for us, and who gave me his very soul on that sand this afternoon.”

He opened his eyes, and the intense glow I saw in them revealed the immensity of his relief.

“I forgive you,” I said, washing away the last shadows of the past. “I forgive you, my love.”

What followed was anything but gentle. Eduardo’s hands gripped my waist with a possessive, desperate strength, as if I were the only thing keeping him from plummeting into an abyss.

He pulled me against his body, the warm skin of his bare chest burning through the thin fabric of my dress.

The kiss was no restrained touch; it was a collision.

An explosion of months of pent-up hunger, longing, terror, and passion.

His tongue invaded my mouth with urgency, taking everything, savoring the taste of my words mixed with the salt of the sea.

The surroundings, the sound of the waves, the golden half-light of the lamp, the scent of the sea and jasmine—all vanished, swallowed up by the storm brewing between us.

My hands reached up to his dark hair, pulling at the strands hard as he lifted me off the floor.

I wrapped my legs around his waist, and Eduardo stumbled blindly into the bungalow, pressing my back against the wooden wall before we even reached the bed.

He trailed his lips down my neck, nibbling and sucking on the sensitive skin of my collarbone, drawing a long, hoarse, uncontrolled moan from my throat.

His large, warm hands slid down my thighs, lifting the fabric of my dress up to my waist. With an impatience that made me shiver with anticipation, he tore through the thin lace barrier of my panties, tossing them to the floor. His breath came in heavy, erratic gasps against my ear, hot and ragged.

“Mine… only mine,” he growled, his deep voice vibrating against my skin, as he unbuttoned his own pants with one hand—without ever letting go of me—freeing his rigid, throbbing erection.

He gripped my thighs firmly and, in a single motion, penetrated me right there, against the wall.

The impact knocked the wind out of me. The sensation of being filled was absolute, thick, and fiery.

I threw my head back against the wood, digging my nails into his broad shoulders, feeling the indescribable fullness of having him inside me again.

It was a physical and spiritual possession, the union of two souls who had bled to get there.

Eduardo moved with deep, firm thrusts—brutal in their urgency, yet filled with fierce adoration.

With each impact, my body responded, melting into a pool of pure wetness and heat, clenching around him with desire.

The sound of our skin slapping together, the wet friction, and the moans we could no longer contain created a profane and intimate symphony in the resort’s stillness.

He couldn’t stand to stay there any longer.

Without breaking our connection, Eduardo carried me to the huge bed, laying me down on the white sheets.

He hovered over me, supporting his weight on his forearms, his back muscles taut and glistening with sweat in the dim light.

His brown eyes were dilated, dark with desire, fixed on mine, devouring my soul with every movement.

His hands slid down to my breasts, freeing them from the neckline of my dress.

He squeezed and massaged the flesh plump from motherhood, his thumbs brushing against my hardened nipples, sending jabs of electricity straight to my womb.

He lowered his head and took one of my nipples into his mouth, sucking hard, while his hips continued to slam against mine in a frantic rhythm.

I lifted my hips, meeting each thrust, begging for more, demanding everything he had to give.

The constant friction against my most intimate spot, the heat of his body crushing against mine, brought me to the brink of delirium.

Eduardo noticed my gasping breath and my body tensing like the string of a bow.

He quickened the pace, thrusting into me with a force that made me see stars, rubbing against my most sensitive spot over and over again.

“Come for me, Maria…” he whispered against my mouth, in a hoarse, choked voice. “Let me feel you. Come to me.”

The orgasm hit me with the force of a tidal wave.

My body contracted violently around him, milking every millimeter of his length.

I screamed his name, my nails scratching his sweaty back in spasms of pure ecstasy.

Eduardo’s response was immediate. With a deep, guttural groan that vibrated from the back of his throat, he thrust one last, deep stroke, driving his hips against mine, and came inside me, trembling, surrendering his very essence.

He collapsed on top of me, burying his face in the curve of my neck. His chest rose and fell erratically against mine, our breaths slowly trying to find the same rhythm.

We stayed embraced, enveloped by the heat of our sweaty, pressed-together bodies. Eduardo kissed my bare shoulder, his firm, protective embrace being the only language that mattered at that moment.

There, amid the rumpled sheets of that bungalow, the girl from the sert?o and the heir from S?o Paulo sealed their definitive new beginning.

We were two scarred adults who found redemption in pain and salvation in sex and love.

Our “happily ever after” wasn’t a fairy tale free of darkness, but the unshakable certainty, etched into our skin, that together we were capable of setting any cold night ablaze.
