Like grotesque dominos, the elevators worldwide began to drop.
Some, just a flight or two up, sustained little damage, their passengers coming away with bruises, a few broken bones at most. Though with a lifelong terror of elevators. Some would refuse to ever leave their homes again.
Others, of course, were less fortunate.
The world watched helplessly as the catastrophe unfolded in slow motion. Many inside the lifts, those who could connect to the internet, realized what was happening.
What would soon happen to them.
Frantic messages were sent to loved ones.
