Chapter Nine
Levi
That was the most intense and crazy feeling I think I have ever experienced.
My gaze never leaves Sage and my demon instincts urge me to go to her.
I thought that I might think of my demon side as separate to me but that’s not the case at all.
I am my demon side and my demon side is me. We are one and the same.
I finally feel whole.
Fortunately no matter what I did and how hard I tried, I could not rush to her which in hindsight probably would’ve been a bad thing.
We all start to make our way towards her as she struggles to get up off of the floor.
I feel like I’ve hit the gym hard and gone a couple of rounds with the guys and my supernatural side was already partial unlocked.
I can’t even imagine what the others are going through or even Sage.
She had so many gifts unlocked. Some of them, from what I could tell at least, even her parents didn’t realise that she had.
“Sage Darling are you ok?” I ask testing out our bond and hoping that its clearer now.
“I’m fine. Wobbly and feel like I’ve run a damn marathon!” She groans.
I ignore them as Kai and Jax devolve into an argument about who could get to Sage quicker by army crawling, or something along those lines anyway.
Now that I know that Sage is ok and joking with Kai and Jax. I take a second to figure out if anything is different about me. My claws aren’t even out and as I run my tongue over my teeth my fangs are missing too.
“Shit!” I hear Sage say worry lacing her tone and my attention immediately snaps back to her.
“Why aren’t they getting up? Did something go wrong?” She continues as she stumbles to her feet, obviously still in pain and tired.
“Careful Beautiful!” Kai calls out worriedly.
It’s too late though and we all watch as she starts to fall, within seconds I’m by her side and I’m not the only one all of my brothers having got here just as quick as me.
It’s a futile effort on our part though as before she can even hit the ground her magic has wrapped her in gold and purple tendrils.
“Don’t touch them!” Nicole calls urgently. “The magic will harm you.”
“Shit, that was close!” Kai curses snatching his hand back.
Of course he was the one that was seconds away from touching the magic surrounding her. It’s then that I get a really good look at my brothers. It seems that seeing Sage fall triggered all of our supernatural sides to come out which isn’t entirely surprising.
Their new images may look different, especially Hunter, since he’s a wolf the size of a freaking a horse and I’m sure I’ll notice other changes in more detail when I’m not worrying about Sage but I do note that although different they are all familiar to me.
“Holy fuck guys we look awesome!” Kai exclaims.
“How do you know that you do too, dude?” Jax chuckles, his voice has changed become more musical somehow.
“Of course I do!” He smirks in reply and I roll my eyes.
“Holy fuck look at Sage!” Maverick suddenly exclaims and we each kneel down, getting as close as we dare to the magic surrounding her.
Sure enough, Sage’s long black hair is now a bright purple with strands of lighter purple and gold interwoven through it. It appears to be her only outward change, that we can see anyway.
“I didn’t know that happened to the Centre’s?” I ask turning my attention to Nicole.
“It doesn’t.” She answers simply studying Sage’s sleeping form.
I don’t have it in me to question her further right now as my gaze automatically gets pulled back towards to Sage.
“Is she ok?” Hunter ask’s worriedly, managing to turn himself back into his human form although he is fucking massive now.
Nicole’s eyes widen as she takes him in and I’m guessing he’s done something that he shouldn’t be able to do yet or something about his transformation is not the norm.
I let it go again. When Sage is awake then we can ask all of the questions that are popping up.
I won’t be able to focus enough until then, the guys haven’t even blinked at the things I’ve picked up on, so it’s safe to say that they’re too distracted as well.
“Erm, yes she’s ok. Her magic is protecting her.
I can’t tell you exactly what is going on with her right now but I can tell you that whatever it is, it’s supposed to be happening.
If we try to interfere her magic will lash out at us perceiving us as the threat.
” Nicole explains and I frown I don’t like not being able to get to her.
“All we can do now is wait.” She finishes.
“What’s going on in there!?” The Director calls.
I can honestly say that I forgot that the woman was here. Me and the guys are all on the same page as we ignore. The woman is up to something and I don’t fucking trust her.
“How the hell is he a high demon!?” She screeches and we all look to Nicole for an explanation as the Director continues to mutter and rant as she paces the edge of the circle.
“Levi isn’t just any kind of demon. The positioning of your horns means that you are actually one of the most powerful subspecies of demon known as a higher demon.” She starts to explain.
“I have horns?” I ask, reaching up to see if I really do or not.
Sure enough I can feel at least four.
“Yes. As to why Annie is so, lets call it shocked shall we?” She smirks rolling her eyes before continuing, “Well it’s because to put it bluntly it simply doesn’t happen in Soulmate Bonded groups.
The only way for you to be a higher demon usually would be if either both your parents were higher level demons or as is more common, you had fought your way up the ranks in the demon realm.
The point is, no demon that was not born or raised in the demon world should be able to be one and certainly not one that is part of a Soulmate Bonded group.
” She looks over us critically for a moment as I try to absorb the information she’s just given me, “I have a feeling that none of you are going to be what is considered normal for a Soulmate Bonded group. Not even Sage is behaving in a way that would be considered normal and that’s taking into account that I’m one of the only people that know the reason why her gifts were bound in the first place.
Rest assured that the Director is not aware and her parents have made sure that it remains that way.
I’m sure I don’t need to tell you that they think she is an adopted Centre they found as a baby. ”
We gape at her. Her parents made up that story which is pretty freaking important information for us all to have and didn’t bother telling us?
“That’s going to be a fun conversation with Sage!” Kai growls over the bond.
We all share a loaded look agreeing completely.
“I demand to know what is going on in there!?” The Director screeches, “Why can’t I get in there!”
I can’t help but let lose a low warning growl several of the others now echoing me.
None of us can stand her.
“I’ll go and deal with her and check on Erin, Jett and the others.
I’m sure they’re absolutely fine. Sage, and you boys actually, threw off a hell of a lot of power and it was probably too much for their human bodies to handle so their bodies automatically shut down and put them into a healing sleep.
They will be fine after a bit of rest.” She reassures us leaving us to walk over to deal with the Director first.
Sage groans and she instantly has one hundred percent of our attention, her magic disappears and we all move closer laying a hand on wherever we can reach.
I know I need the reassurance that she’s unharmed.
I open my mouth to ask if she’s ok but no words come out as I’m stunned into silence as soon as she opens her usually gorgeous grey eyes.
Instead of grey though they’re dark almost black with purple around the edges gradually getting lighter until they reach the middle and turn gold.
The gold looks like a sunburst as tiny streams flow out from the centre and through the purple.
They are so completely and utterly beautiful that they take my breath away.
Surprisingly they suit her and don’t look out of place at all. It’s like we can finally see beneath the mask that she’s worn for all these years.
She’s clearly studying us as well and I get slightly nervous wondering what she will think, she doesn’t look frightened at least. She jokes with the guys and Hunter’s wolf obviously proving that she really isn’t scared of us.
I love just absorbing these moments and I enjoy it until her mystic eyes widen and she panics.
Sage
“Fuck!” I exclaim.
Mad at myself for getting distracted by the guys. Honestly though I challenge anyone not to get distracted by my guys in their supernatural forms. No one would fare any better than me.
“Are Erin and the guys ok?” I ask worriedly.
I start to get up and Levi puts an arm around me effortlessly lifting me up.
“Easy Darling. We don’t want you going down again.” He says his deep voice concerned.
I nod but still continue to rush forwards towards Erin as the guys follow me obviously not wanting to move away from me now.
I glance around noticing the Director stood by one of the huge stone plinths and, no shit, is pouting like a petulant child as two out of three of Nicole’s men stand near her.
I’m not clear whether they are guarding her or stopping her from approaching us for whatever reason.
I have a feeling it’s the latter but either way I’m glad she’s all the way over there right now.
Scanning the area I see Nicole crouched down next to Erin and rush in that direction, it’s taking me longer than I’d like to get there if I’m honest.
“Is she ok?” I call out and gasp as soon as I get a good look at her.
“They are all fine. However it appears that you somehow managed to set their supernatural sides free as well!” She says sounding awestruck.
“Does that mean they’re a part of our Soulmate Bond too?” Maverick asks.
I just gap at her in stunned silence.
