Chapter Twenty-Three #2

He swings the sword in a wide arc aiming straight for Kai’s neck. I panic and launch my only weapon at him, my aim true as always and striking him in the shoulder, he barely pauses in his motion though and my soul cries out in anguish as I think it’s the end for Kai.

In a blink, I find myself crouched in front of him blocking him from the attack with no real idea of how I got here, just before the sword makes contact with me, Kai yelling in distress as he wraps a strong arm around my waist and pulls me tightly against his fallen form, there’s a flash of pure purple magic and Nyx is between us and the Creep, her sword blocking his from impaling us.

“Sorry I’m late,” she smirks over her shoulder at us her eyes twinkling with amusement and making me smile. “The fucker had protections all around this place it took me a while to get through.” The whole time she’s talking Creep is straining against her sword.

“Your spell will wear off soon witch!” He growls and I realise that the blast of magic that Nyx arrived in also did something to him.

“You though Kai, I am impressed with. It took my men decades of being my Bonded to work out how to come after me when I got trapped in one of these.” She says completely ignoring Creep.

“Thank you.” Kai says sounding slightly awestruck.

“Speaking of my Bonded, they’ll be arriving any minute now and it’s time for you to get back. It’s nearly time Daughter. Be ready.” She says seriously before Creep starts to move more, a vicious growl building in his chest. She smiles reassuringly in our direction and her purple magic envelops us.

As we’re fading back to the awake world and the castle, the spell breaks and I see Creep go for Nyx with a fury unlike anything we have seen so far, a stunningly vicious grin breaks free across Nyx’s beautiful features.

It becomes glaringly obvious that these two have history.

As my vision fades the last thing I see is multihued magic appear around the room as her Bonded show up. Kai’s arms tighten around me.

******

My arrival back is not pleasant in the slightest.

Not only is it abrupt, Kai’s arms tightening around me but the yells from the rest of the guys show that they’re all awake. As well as two distinctly different caws from Ghost and Knot.

Not only that but I am in pain. The injuries that we received in the vision dream have followed us here and I’m pissed about it.

“Fuck!” I groan Kai echoing the sound behind me.

“What the fuck was that?” Jax asks sounding panicked as he rushes towards us both.

“That creep that made the head roll and killed the Director pulled me into a dream. I’m not entirely sure what he was hoping to achieve apart from maybe to scare the living shit out of me.

Oh and try to eat a part of me.” I shudder bile rising in my throat.

“I’ll keep explaining but I need to wrap my wrists and Kai has hurt one of his wings at least. I’ll just wrap them and then I’ll heal him through the bond.

” I explain and their eyes instantly snap to my damaged wrists.

“What. The. Fuck.” Levi growls through clenched teeth.

“I was manacled and damaged my wrists escaping. Kai fought the creepy fucker.” I explain simply.

“Stop,” Maverick says as the others start to ask more questions, “lets get them sorted before we start peppering them with questions, Sage you heal Kai through the bond.”

“No way she’s just as hurt as me, I’ll be fine.” Kai interrupts Maverick as he struggles to sit up, his glamour still dropped.

All of our glamours are dropped since we’re in the safety of our rooms, I’m assuming that he had his glamour on in the dream vision because he had no idea what he was walking into and it’s always better for an enemy to underestimate you.

The ball of flames that flickers between Kai’s horns must be a response to his emotions or his power levels since it’s not there at the moment.

I scan the room looking for my familiars and find them perched at the end of my bed both of them watching me closely.

Seeing Kai struggling, Jax immediately stops hovering nearby and rushes to help him sit up ending up perched up on the bed with Kai leaning heavily against him.

As soon as he’s settled Kai he pulls me gently back against his chest as if he’s not willing to let go just yet.

The guys eyes switch between Jax and Kai curiously, Hunter covering up a smirk and a knowing glint in his eyes as he shares a look with Mav, it’s clear those two know something.

“As I was saying,” Maverick continues glaring at Kai, “you will let Sage fix you not only because I imagine she’s going to give you hell if you don’t but also because we already know we’ve got one hell of a day ahead of us dealing with the Directors death.

Not only that but everyone will no doubt be blaming us.

Also, because Sage already predicted something else was going to happen today.

We all need to be at our best and whilst I understand why you no doubt refused whilst you were in the dream you aren’t any longer. I can heal her.”

“You can?” Hunt asks surprised.

“Yeah I asked for a book on the fae in my class since he was teaching us nothing of value and I’ve been reading it when I get the chance.

All fae have at least some sort of gift with healing, it’s part of our DNA.

Obviously I’ve never tried so I don’t know how strong a gift I have when it comes to healing but I should be able to heal it slightly and take away some of Sage’s pain. ”

“Can’t we just heal her like we did her back?” Hunt asks and I feel Jax tense, I reach up to hold his hand as Kai holds his thigh, our touch making him settle.

He still finds it difficult that they weren’t able to heal the scars on my back from that god awful hell hole but he’s taken to kissing each one of them whenever he gets the chance just like I do for him.

“I don’t think it would work, I think we can only use that in dire circumstances and I have no idea what the effect would be on us all now that our supernatural sides are free.

I’d rather not risk depleting our energy and magic.

” He explains and honestly he’s the brains when it comes to this sort of stuff, Levi is better with the technology side of things.

The rest of them having their strengths in different things too.

“Fine,” Kai grumbles and I grin smugly making the guys chuckle.

“We are talking about the asinine view you all seem to share about me healing you in battle.” I say firmly.

“Ok, Darling.” Levi agrees but I can already see that he’s going to try to remain firm. Fortunately I have some very good arguments to make.

“Heal Kai Titch and then whilst I’m healing you, Kai can tell us what happened.” Maverick says and they all settle on the large bed.

Maverick moves into position near me, in easy reach for when he heals me.

I focus on the Bond lines as the guys talk quietly and send healing magic down my Bond to Kai.

I really freaking hope that’s what I’m sending him anyway.

Everything I do with my magic comes fairly instinctively and I hope that doesn’t suddenly change now.

I hear Kai sigh in relief and smile when I open my eyes and see his tense painfilled expression easing as the magic does what it’s supposed to.

“Well done, Titch.” Maverick compliments, “Your turn now.” He says looking slightly nervous.

Using my less damaged hand I reach up and gently cradle his stubbled cheek, kissing him softly as he leans in.

“You’ve got this. I trust you one hundred percent.” I tell him firmly and his eyes fill with fire at my words.

He nods once, kissing me firmly and then turns his attention back to my wrist that’s got the worst damage.

I watch as he takes a deep breath closes his eyes and circles his hands around my wrist being careful not touch.

As soon as his sapphire blue magic appears I instantly start to feel better.

As Maverick heals my wrists back to perfect condition, showing that he definitely has a gift with healing, Kai tells the others what happened in the dream, vision with me filling bits in along the way.

“Well hopefully Nyx is taking care of him or at least keeping him occupied enough to stay away from us. He’s the head of the Order and although she said our ultimate goal was to defeat him, we are nowhere near ready and she said we had a while until we got to that point.” Levi says.

“Hopefully that’s how it’s going to stay. Lets just focus on rescuing the Centres first.” Hunter suggests and we nod in agreement.

I simply cannot focus on the absolutely giant task of defeating the Creep and the Order along side him.

One thing at a time.
