Unfinished buisness

Author's pov-

The tension in the air thickened the moment vaani stepped out of the car. She didn't rush, didn't speak immediately-just stood there, her sharp gaze fixed on purv.

Divya could feel the shift in him. The warmth he had just shared with her, the vulnerability he had allowed himself-it was gone, replaced by the cold exterior he always wore like armor.

Purv clenched his jaw, his hands curling into fists at his sides. "What do you want, vaani?"

She smirked, crossing her arms. "You still get straight to the point, don't you?" Her eyes flickered to Divya, assessing. Then, back to purv. "I didn't expect to see you here... like this."

Divya's stomach twisted. She knew what vaani meant. She had caught them in a moment that wasn't meant for anyone else's eyes.

Purv exhaled sharply, taking a step forward as if shielding Divya. "You saw me. Now leave."

Vaani tilted her head, her smirk not faltering. "That's not how you talk to someone who was once-"

"Don't," purv cut her off, his voice low, warning.

Divya watched the exchange, her heart pounding. This wasn't just about vaani showing up at the wrong time. There was history here, one that still lingered in the way purv's shoulders tensed, in the way vaani's smirk held something deeper-something unreadable.

"I just came to talk," vaani finally said, her voice softer but still holding that edge. "You owe me that much, don't you?"

Purv scoffed. "I don't owe you anything."

Vaani's expression flickered for the briefest second, but she masked it quickly. "Maybe not. But we both know there are things left unsaid."

Divya shifted uncomfortably. She didn't want to stand there as a silent spectator to whatever unresolved past they had.

Purv must have sensed it because he turned slightly, looking at Divya for the first time since Vaani arrived. His expression softened just a fraction. "Go back, divya."

Her stomach dropped. "What?"

"This isn't something you need to be here for," he said, his voice quieter now, but firm.

Divya swallowed hard. She wanted to argue, to tell him she wasn't leaving him alone with his past. But the way he had looked at her-the silent plea in his eyes-made her hesitate.

Vaani, ofcourse, noticed. "Looks like she doesn't trust you alone with me," she mused.

Purv shot her a glare before turning back to divya. "I'll come to you later. Just... trust me."

Divya didn't know what was worse-the fact that he was asking her to leave or the fact that a part of her was scared to hear whatever it was that vaani had to say.

But in the end, she nodded. "Fine."

She didn't look at vaani as she turned away, her heart heavy with questions she wasn't sure she wanted answers to.

And as she walked away, she couldn't help but wonder-was this another moment where purv pull back just when she thought he was finally letting her in?
