The cracks begin to show

Author's pov-

Divya didn’t sleep that night.

She lay awake, staring at the ceiling, Rudra’s words playing over and over in her head.

"You need to stop running, Divya."

"He never moved on."

"He loves you. He always did."

Her fingers curled into the bedsheet as she exhaled shakily.

Why did knowing all this hurt more?

Why did it feel like everything she had told herself for the past five years was suddenly collapsing?

She should’ve been angry. She should’ve hated him for what he did back then.

But instead, her heart ached.

And that was what terrified her the most.

Purv sat in his office the next morning, his fingers drumming against his desk. His mind was everywhere but work.

He had tried to focus.

Tried to push away the thoughts of last night.

But he couldn't.

The way she looked at him when she said, “I don’t want to talk about this right now.”

She wasn’t indifferent.

She wasn’t cold.

She was scared.

And that meant something.

It meant there was still something there.

He needed to see her again. Needed to push her past that wall she had built around herself.

And Purv Rathore had never been the kind of man to back down from something he wanted.

So he picked up his phone and made a call.

Divya was walking across her office building when she received a message.

She frowned. Who the hell—

Another message popped up.

Her heart stopped for a second.

She knew that tone.

Purv.

Her fingers hovered over the keyboard before she typed back:

A reply came immediately.

She clenched her jaw, annoyed. What the hell did he want now?

Her grip on the phone tightened.

Five years, and he still knew her schedule?

She should say no.

She shouldn’t go.

But before she could type another rejection, another message came through.

Her breath hitched.

That bastard.

She shut her eyes, taking a deep breath.

Fine.

One meeting. Then she’d walk away.

Because this? This didn’t mean anything.

At least, that’s what she told herself.
