Chapter 14 Megan

MEGAN

The next morning, I woke up early, the way I usually did. To my astonishment, Luke was already awake. He was sitting in bed next to me, looking at me and smiling.

"Hey, how long have you been awake?" I asked.

"Not long." His voice was delectable in the morning, even deeper than normal.

"Is it late? Why didn't you wake me up?"

"We've still got some time. We’re leaving at eight thirty. You’re gorgeous when you sleep."

Waking up next to this stunning man filled me with immense joy. I moved closer to him, kissing up that muscular arm. I felt very happy and content.

"You don't have to flatter me, you know. You already got in my pants—or, well, in my god-awful panties."

"I'm telling the truth." He slung an arm around my waist, pulling me on top of him. “This is the proof.”

He was sporting some serious morning wood.

I tapped my lips with a fingertip. “Hmm, I’m not sure that counts as proof. It happens in the morning anyway."

"Woman, why are you determined to fight me?"

"Because I like how hard you try to prove your point.”

He laughed, kissing up my neck. I shuddered in his arms, but then I saw the clock.

"Luke!" I exclaimed, jumping off him and then off the bed. "It's eight o'clock. Why didn't you say anything? You said we’re leaving at eight thirty."

"Yes, but we only need about five minutes to get from here to the heliport.”

“And I need all the minutes I can to get ready."

"What are you talking about? It's just showering. That takes two minutes."

I burst out laughing, but I felt a bit panicky on the inside now. "Maybe for you. I need a bit longer."

He looked at me like I was speaking a foreign language.

I went straight to the shower, turning it on. The water pressure was so low that only a thin stream came out.

"Damn it!" I cursed.

He poked his head inside. "What happened?"

"The water is barely working. It wasn't great last night either. The pressure kept dropping, but now it's worse!”

"Come on, let's go to my room. You can shower there. It worked fine last night."

I nodded, putting on the only clothes I had and the second pair of new panties. I shoved all the toiletries I bought in my laptop bag and followed him out of the room. He looked dressed and ready to go even without a shower. No wonder he thought we had plenty of time.

Thankfully, the water pressure in his room was great. The truth was, I also needed the shower to wake up. Feeling the water flow over my face and body was refreshing. I didn't need to wash my hair because I’d done it last night, so I pulled it in a high ponytail and tried not to get it wet.

After getting out, I brushed my teeth and wrapped a towel around me. Stepping inside the bedroom, I said, "Okay, I'm good. You can shower now."

"Okay. I'll—”

He was interrupted when the door open and Travis came in.

"I spoke to the heliport. The—”

He stopped when he saw me. His jaw dropped, and his eyes bulged.

"Oh my God!" I exclaimed.

I tried to pull my towel even higher, though it was covering everything, and somehow managed to drop it to my waist. I buckled to hide my boobs and caught the towel before it hit the floor, then covered myself back up.

"I didn't see anything!" Travis shouted, turning around. His back was shaking with laughter. "Now I get why you had that murderous look yesterday, brother."

"Get out!" Luke bellowed.

"I'm out, but hurry up, lovebirds. We need to be at the heliport in fifteen minutes." He ducked out the door, closing it behind him.

My face was on fire. Scratch that—my whole body was on fire.

Luke turned to me the second we were alone.

I hung my head. "That was so embarrassing."

"Are you okay?"

"Yes, physically. Mentally? No. I want to hide and never come out of this room. I can't believe he saw me naked."

Oh. My. God. What will his family think of me? That I’m trying to climb the corporate ladder by having sex with my boss?

This was not good.

"Please don't say that again. A vein might explode in my temple."

That made me chuckle, but then I sighed. "I can't believe he found out about us."

Luke's eyes clouded. He cupped my face with both hands.

He seemed taller right now, like he was dominating the whole space.

"I don't have a problem with him knowing about us. We’ve got nothing to hide, and I don't want to keep you a secret. Obviously, it’s not how I wanted him to find out, but I don't mind. "

"You don't?" I whispered. “You don’t think this looks bad in any way?”

“No.” He pressed his fingers against my skin, looking at me intently. “I’d scream it for the whole world to know that you’re mine. But I understand that’s not possible yet.”

He drew his thumb over my lips. Heat coiled through me.

“I can’t think when you’re so close,” I admitted. “And so sexy. Although, you’re always sexy.”

Laughing, he dropped his hands and took a step back. “Better now?”

“Hmmm… no, I quite like it when you touch me.” Licking my lips, I said, “I don’t know how to navigate this, Luke. Last night was amazing.”

He came right back in front of me. He was only an inch, maybe two, away.

“What do you want, Megan?”

“You,” I replied without a doubt. “But you are my boss. I don’t want people getting the wrong impression.”

He took my hand, bringing it to his lips and kissing it softly. My heart grew in size, I swear. It felt like it was taking up all the space inside me.

“I want you, Megan. We’ll find a way. Now let’s hurry up. The last thing we need is my brother dearest barging in on us again.”

That spurred me into action. I dressed at top speed while Luke showered.

While I was alone, my mind wandered. What exactly did Luke want? More of this amazing, earth-shattering, sneaky sex, or did he want more?

And what did I want?

There was a weird silence between the three of us when we met in the hotel lobby.

Travis was waiting for us with coffee. Outside, it was a gorgeous day with a clear blue sky.

You wouldn't know there had been a storm the night before.

I had an annoying feeling that I kept blushing around Travis.

How could the man have recovered so fast?

On second thought, I wasn't sure he had because every time I looked at him, he seemed to want to suppress laughter.

Luke kept glaring at him. He didn't say a word in front of the Uber driver who took us to the heliport.

Once we were in the helicopter, Travis said, "Look, I don't want any awkwardness."

Luke cocked a brow at him. "Then how about you don't bring it up?"

Travis grinned, looking at the two of us and winking suggestively.

Right, no awkwardness at all.

"Well, my job's done. I brought you back safe and sound one day later. You're on your own from here, lovebirds," Travis said as we exited the helipad near Chicago.

"Travis," Luke said in a grim tone.

"Yeah, no, sorry. I promise, no more awkward moments." He shook his brother's hand and then mine before hopping into an Uber he'd called the second we got out of the helicopter.

"I’ll call an Uber as well," I said.

"I can take you home. I drove here in my car," Luke said.

"Oh, no, that's fine. It's out of your way."

He stepped closer. "Megan," he said in that low, delicious voice.

I cleared my throat. "I think we have to start switching back to professional. Probably easier if we start right now."

The corners of his mouth twitched. "You're right, but in the interest of honesty, I have to tell you it was hard before. Now I think it's going to prove impossible."

My mouth was dry, my lips too, so I licked them.

Luke grinned, glancing at my mouth. I took a step back for good measure.

Oh sweet Lord, he’s right, isn’t he?
