Chapter 39
Two weeks later, Cassie climbed into Finn’s car outside her apartment.
‘All set?’
‘This is going to be fun when I’m eight months pregnant,’ she groaned.
He leaned over and kissed her lightly.
‘Come on, the scan is at half past. We don’t want to be late to meet this sprog of ours.’
‘Finn, I’m nervous, is that stupid?’
‘No, it’s not stupid, it’s natural. Wait, I’ve got something for you.’
He reached back and produced a gift bag, placing it on her knee.
‘What’s this for?’
She opened it to find the tiniest soft teddy and a pair of beige bootees.
‘Unisex colour, so whoever we get, we’ll be prepared.’
He really was all in, after the months of indecision.
‘Oh Finn, they’re so beautiful. Thank you.’
He gave her a pointed glance. She’d realised that sometimes he could become very serious.
‘No .?.?. thank you,’ he said, as he pulled out into the traffic.
‘For what?’
He shrugged awkwardly. ‘Just for being you .?.?. and because I never thought it could be like this.’
She stayed silent so he went on, ‘I mean, when things are really good between us, it’s different .?.?. that’s all.’
‘I know what you mean,’ she said. Having seen both sides, she reflected, made their second-chance love all the sweeter.
