Chapter 30
David looked down at the text which had just come from Ashley.
ASHLEY: Jacob wet the bed last night.
Immediately concerned, David leaned forward at his desk and frowned. Jacob had been potty trained for over a year and was very particular about being clean; the few daytime accidents he’d had early in the process had upset him a lot.
DAVID: He did? Did you let him drink something right before bed?
ASHLEY: No.
DAVID: Did he go to the bathroom before bed?
ASHLEY: I think so. But I didn’t watch him, so I don’t know for sure.
DAVID: You don’t have to watch him. You just have to ask him.
DAVID: Is he okay? Is he upset?
ASHLEY: He’s a little upset. He didn’t talk to me on the way to preschool but he hardly talks to me, anyway.
DAVID: Okay. Thanks for letting me know.
DAVID: It’s probably a fluke, or he just didn’t go to the bathroom before he went to bed, but you should probably buy some of those Goodnites for his next visit, just in case.
ASHLEY: I also wanted to let you know I’ve decided to change his visitation to alternate weekends only. Having him in the middle of the week is really disruptive.
David read the text again. Disruptive? What the fuck did she know about disruptive?
About as much as she knew about being a parent.
For a moment, he was pissed off that instead of stepping up like he’d hoped, she was actually stepping back. But as he started to think about it, he realized it meant two more days a month he’d have Jacob at home, not to mention it brought David even closer to getting full custody.
DAVID: Fine. I’ll have our agreement changed and send it to you to sign.
