51. Chapter 51

Chapter 51

Shortly after getting home, David checked his phone for messages, and saw that Paige had texted him.

PAIGE: How did Jacob’s session go with Lauren??

DAVID: She said it went well, and they laid strong ‘groundwork’, whatever that means. And she mentioned seeing a few red flags, but didn’t tell me what they were.

DAVID: That was a little frustrating, to be honest.

PAIGE: Don’t be frustrated.

PAIGE: Laying ‘groundwork’ is basically just establishing trust and rapport, which is really important. It can also sometimes take a while, so the fact they were able to get that in place during the first session is a win. And she’s just waiting until she has something definitive to tell you, because the last thing she wants to do is tell you something that turns out to not be true.

DAVID: Okay.

PAIGE: Did you watch the session?

DAVID: Yes. I’m not sure what I was expecting, but they played with rocks for a while, which was kind of strange.

PAIGE: They weren’t playing with rocks. Lauren was having him pick a crystal.

DAVID: What?

PAIGE: Lauren is into crystals and their healing properties, and she has all of her patients pick one when they start therapy.

DAVID: Oh. Okay.

PAIGE: She actually got me interested in them, so I have a little collection of my own going.

DAVID: Really? Why have you never told me that?

PAIGE: Maybe because I figured you’d think it was weird.

DAVID: Actually, I kind of do.

DAVID: So, where do you keep all these rocks?

PAIGE: Oh, no, you didn’t.

DAVID: Sorry. I meant crystals.

DAVID: So, where do you keep all these rocks crystals?

PAIGE: I keep one in my purse, a couple at work, and I have several around my apartment.

DAVID: What do these rocks crystals do?

PAIGE: The one in my purse is meant for protection, the ones at work are for stress and focus, and the ones in my apartment are for healing and happiness.

PAIGE: I might have one for sexual health, too.

DAVID: Do they work? And I’m not asking about the sexual health one, because I know it works.

PAIGE: I think they work.

DAVID: Maybe I’ll have to start a rock crystal collection of my own.

PAIGE: That’s a good idea. You should start with one that helps promote open-mindedness.

DAVID: That hurt.

PAIGE: You totally deserved it.

PAIGE: So, did anything else happen in the session?

DAVID: They talked and drew some pictures.

PAIGE: How was Jacob afterwards?

DAVID: He seemed fine. A little tired, but fine.

PAIGE: Good.

DAVID: He has another appointment with Lauren on Friday at 3 p.m., and she warned me that she was going to start ‘poking around’.

PAIGE: He might not be so fine after that one …

DAVID: I know.

PAIGE: You know what might help?

DAVID: What?

PAIGE: Brinner.

DAVID: Brinner?

PAIGE: Breakfast for dinner.

DAVID: Of course. I should have known.

PAIGE: So, what do you say? Brinner at my place on Friday, around 6 p.m.?

DAVID: Sure. We’ll be there.
