61. Chapter 61
Chapter 61
By the time Paige and David left the bowling alley it was 10 p.m. He drove her home, then escorted her up to her apartment, making the evening feel even more like a date.
Unfortunately.
As she unlocked her door, Paige had to fight her disappointment that the evening was over. Why couldn’t any of her dates in the past few months have been like this? Why did her best date have to be with her ex-husband?
“This was the best divorce anniversary I’ve ever had,” she told him. “Thank you.”
He drew her in for a full hug, which seemed to be becoming a habit (not that she was complaining). After what seemed like a long time, he pulled back enough to say, “Me, too. And you’re welcome.”
He then dipped his head and without thinking, pressed a quick, friendly kiss to her lips.
It lasted approximately one second, but in that one second all the oxygen seemed to get sucked out of the hallway, leaving them blinking at one another in surprise.
Paige honestly didn’t know what to think about what had just happened and if his What the fuck expression was any indication, he didn’t, either, making it obvious it hadn’t been intentional.
So, now what?
Pretend like it didn’t happen? That seemed like a good option, especially since it hadn’t been more than a peck. But she’d need his help to carry it off and if she didn’t get it, she’d look like a nut job.
Laugh it off? That actually seemed like a better option. It might be smarter to acknowledge what had happened with a lighthearted joke, rather than ignore it. And that would make it easier for him to follow her lead, which he would likely appreciate.
Laughing it off was definitely the way to go.
With the decision made, she opened her mouth to roll out a lighthearted joke, only to realize that she didn’t actually have one ready to go, which put her in a bit of a pickle. But before she could even attempt to think of something, she became distracted when she realized his gaze was fixated on her mouth. His What the fuck expression was gone, replaced with something that looked a lot like Well, hello there, which made her brows draw together, because he couldn’t possibly want—
The rest of that thought was nuked as his strong hands latched on to her face, barely giving her enough time to emit what sounded like a Victorian-era gasp before he was surging forward and kissing her again. This time it was clearly intentional and the fact that it was, was almost as unexpected as how good it felt.
Paige didn’t feel tingles. Nooooooo.
What she felt was a surge of desire so strong that it almost made her dizzy. She hadn’t kissed him in five years (ironically, it was five years to the day) and while she’d always enjoyed kissing him, this wasn’t that. This was explosive and animalistic, and while she was in no way prepared for it, she didn’t shy away from it, either.
Instead, she eagerly reacquainted herself with his tongue when it teased its way into her mouth, making him groan low in his throat. The male sound of satisfaction made her nipples harden and everything south of the border actually flood with heat, shocking the hell out of her.
What was going on?
His hands left her face and slid down her back until they were gripping her ass with purpose and locking their lower bodies together, something she was totally on board with. She could feel how hard he already was and it was equally amazing and thrilling. She pictured him, thick and stiff, as he ground against her and before Paige could stop herself, she was imagining all of this happening while they were very naked. And horizontal.
They kissed for what felt like forever, breaths mingling as their lips and tongues devoured each other in a way that wasn’t in the least bit familiar to either one of them. When Paige finally pulled away, she realized that not only were her fingers buried in his hair, but she felt flushed and disoriented. And … painfully aroused.
For the first time in her life she actually wanted to be fucked.
Paige didn’t doubt for one second that if this was happening with someone she was dating, she would probably be pulling them inside her apartment by their dick to continue this on her bed and see where it would lead. However, this wasn’t just someone she was dating—this was David, and it wasn’t an option.
He leaned forward, as if to kiss her again, but she held him in place with her hands, literally by his hair.
“What are we doing?” she whispered, for the first time feeling the slight beard burn he’d given her.
“If you have to ask that, then we must not be doing it right.”
“David.”
“Sorry. Wrong time for a joke?”
The intense high was wearing off, replaced with consternation. Paige pulled her hands out of his hair, leaving it in serious disarray, then removed his hands from her ass, which he was still holding in a death grip. Then she fumbled behind herself for her door knob, found it, opened the door, ducked inside, and closed the door behind her.
