Chapter 21 Daisy #3
"We stop if either of us hurts. No proving anything tonight.
" He kisses me soft, then deeper, hands framing my waist with a tenderness that somehow feels filthier than roughness.
"You're here. You're warm. You're choosing me after I spent years failing the simplest test. Daisy, God, let me worship you without breaking you. "
"Worship is acceptable." My laugh shakes. "Pants are optional."
We negotiate clothing carefully in the cramped space.
My skirt rides up, and I move my underwear aside.
His zipper eases down. He produces a condom from the center console with a grimace ("I put these here after the storm") and rolls it on one-handed, careful of the stitches, while I steady his wrist. Even that small teamwork makes my throat tight.
When I sink onto him, we both exhale like surfacing.
"Alive," I whisper.
"Alive," he echoes, forehead to mine. "You showed up for yourself in that cabin. I just kicked the door. Don't forget who freed whose wrists."
"Don't make this a TED talk while you're inside me."
"Fair." His hips flex up, slow, shallow, rain drumming the roof in applause. "Then listen to me. You feel like heat. Like safety. Like every good decision I failed to make finally arriving late and perfect. Move when you want. Take what you need. I'm furniture with a heartbeat."
I ride him slow. The car rocks minutely.
Rain blurs the world into streaks. His uninjured hand slips under my shirt to cup my breast, thumb circling with devastating patience, while his stitched forearm stays obediently still against the seatback.
I brace on his chest instead of his shoulders when my wrists twinge; he notices instantly and adjusts, kissing the gauze with a reverence that undoes me more than the sex.
"Sensitive?" he asks.
"In every way." I roll my hips and watch his mouth fall open. "Talk to me. Don't go quiet. Quiet feels like the cabin. I need your voice."
"Then hear this." His breath stutters as I clench.
"You are the bravest person I have ever touched.
You are soaking my cock in a hospital parking lot because you decided your body gets joy tonight.
You are squeezing me like you own the lease on my pulse.
Daisy, fuck, ride me harder if you want.
Or stay slow. I'll match you. I'll match anything. "
"Harder," I decide. "Bandage-careful. But harder."
Between slow rolls of my hips I catalog sensations like proof of life: the leather sticky under my knees, the rain's percussion, the clean-hospital smell still clinging to his shirt, the careful way he never lets my gauze scrape the seatbelt buckle. He notices me noticing and smiles sideways.
"Inventorying?" he asks.
"Confirming." I squeeze around him deliberately and watch his eyes flutter. "Pulse and breath. All your choice, all mine tonight."
"All yours." His good hand slides to the small of my back, guiding without forcing. "Take another angle if you want. Left. Right. I'll hold still like a very enthusiastic statue."
I try left. The new drag makes us both swear softly.
Right is better, deeper without strain, his pubic bone catching my clit just so.
I stay there and work myself on him while he murmurs a stream of quiet encouragement that never tips into the cabin's quiet.
Every time my breath hitches toward fear he says my name like a lighthouse.
Every time I smile he looks destroyed with gratitude.
"I used to think showing up meant grand gestures," he admits, hips flexing to meet me. "Doors kicked in. Statements given. Turns out it also means sitting still in a back seat while you use me to remember your body is yours."
"Both," I manage. "I want both kinds. Forever. The kicking and the sitting."
"Forever is a big word."
"So is alive." I kiss him to stop the philosophy and chase the crest, grinding until the pleasure spikes white and clean behind my eyes.
He helps (feet braced, hips lifting to meet me) while the rain gets louder.
The low stream of his praise undoes me: how pretty I look wrecked and safe, how he can feel me fluttering, how he wants to spend the rest of his life earning the right to be the place I come down from fear.
I grind my clit against him on every downstroke until the orgasm builds like a tide instead of a slap: slow, inevitable, chosen.
"Adam—"
"I've got you. Come on me. Come alive on me. Let the whole night hear what surviving sounds like."
I shatter with a sob that isn't sadness: forehead pressed to his, bandaged wrists cradled between our chests, body pulsing around him in waves that make him curse softly and follow.
He comes with my name in his mouth and his good arm locked around my back, careful even in climax, stitches protected, my cheek guarded from his shoulder's hard edge.
He stays buried in me while the rain softens. His heartbeat thuds under my palm. The lot remains empty. The world remains broken and newly possible.
After we rest, I lift away and he disposes of the condom. He helps me out of my underwear entirely when the fabric becomes an argument, tucking the damp cotton into his jacket pocket with a solemnity that makes me snort.
"Souvenir?" I ask.
"Evidence that tonight ended with choice." His fingers trace the edge of my gauze without pressing. "Also I'm never dry-cleaning this jacket without thinking of you riding me in the rain. Sorry in advance to the tailor."
He puts on a fresh condom before I sink back onto him and we both go quiet at the renewed heat.
Outside, an ambulance leaves the lot with lights but no siren; the red wash slides across his face and then it's gone.
I frame his jaw with careful hands and move again (slow circles, then longer strokes) until his composure frays into whispered swears.
"I like hearing you," I tell him.
"Everything you do looks like a rewrite of my personality." He lifts to meet me, still mindful of depth and angle. "Harder?"
"Like you mean it."
Before the final crest he makes me pause, literally stills my hips with a gentle grip and waits until my breathing syncs with his.
"Green light?" he asks, watching my face.
"Green. Neon green." I kiss the question off his mouth. "Don't treat me like I'll break. Treat me like I came back."
"You came back." His eyes shine. "You came back and you put me inside you in a parking lot. I'm going to be smug about that for decades."
"Be smug quietly." I start moving again, finding the angle that makes stars gather. "And keep talking. Filthy and soft, both."
He delivers a running commentary that somehow never cheapens the night: how my body flutters when he hits that spot, how he likes the way I look at him when I choose the pace.
The words braid with the rain while pleasure gathers slowly.
I press my forehead to his, saying his name like a pulse as we move carefully together.
The car springs complain. Rain answers louder. I chase the brighter edge of pleasure while his good hand steadies my hip. When I tip too close to a wrist brace he redirects my hands to his chest without breaking rhythm, and I bury a grateful sound in his throat.
At one point I start shaking (not from cold, from adrenaline aftershock) and he stops moving entirely, draws me close with his good arm, and rocks us like the car is a boat.
"Still here," he soothes. "Still choosing. Want to stop? Want to keep going? Want me to just hold you until the rain quits?"
"Keep going," I decide after a breath. "But like this. Close. No space for ghosts."
"No ghosts." He resumes with tiny movements, chest to chest, my face tucked under his chin, the rain a private roof.
The intimacy is almost more overwhelming than the thrusts; I cry quietly and come quietly and he kisses the tears without making them a problem.
When he finishes it's with a sigh that sounds like prayer and exhaustion braided.
We stay coupled while our pulses slow. He rubs circles on my back. I count the raindrops on the window until they blur into one silver sheet.
"Rule one," I whisper against his throat while he's still softening inside me, testing the words in this new context. "Show up. Even in the back seat. Even when I'm shaking. Even when the night tried to erase me."
"Especially then." His good hand cups my skull. "I'll stay as long as you want me here."
After he disposes of the second condom, he helps me dress with the same care he used to protect my wrists all evening: skirt smoothed, underwear retrieved from his pocket with a sheepish flourish, my hair tucked behind my ears.
I button his shirt wrong on purpose just to make him smile.
He fixes it. We are ordinary for ten seconds. It feels like a miracle.
"Take me home," I say at last.
He presses his forehead to mine. "Okay."
