Chapter Twenty-Five
KYRA
I t’s the last day of the games and to say it’s gone better than I hoped would be putting it lightly. Upbeat music plays softly from the speakers across campus. The smell of carnival food lingers from the local vendors set up near the lawn. The past three days have been filled with fun, laughter, and no incidents. I don’t want to jinx it, but I’m so relieved.
I haven’t personally been participating in any of the games, mostly because I want to make sure things continue to run smoothly. All of Greek life is dressed up in a mix of themed clothing or matching shirts with the rest of their house. It’s been like this all week, and I think it’s honestly added to the excitement. Everyone has prepared.
Today, my house is wearing matching light pink cropped tees with our house letters on the front and white pleated athletic mini skorts. These outfits, like most we’ve chosen to wear this week, are perfect for all the running around we’re doing.
We’re getting ready for the last round of events. Up next is the chariot race. I was tempted to do this one myself, it just sounded fun. I didn’t like the idea of one of my sorority sisters pulling me or me pulling them. Maybe I’m not competitive enough, but I will appreciate the show. Beth, my bestie, is the one riding in the chariot for our house and I’m excited to cheer her on.
“It’s been a success.” Max walks up next to me. He’s got a clipboard in hand and whistle around his neck. He’s wearing a navy blue toga today with the rest of his house.
I nod. “I’m excited to see how the chariots were decorated. When the Deltas managed to get two dozen of them donated, I thought it was a joke. It’ll be fun to see them.”
We both turn to see as the commotion of them rolling in starts. It looks like we’re preparing for a parade, feels like it too. The smack talking can be heard from here as houses debate who will win.
Max and I walk together to get a closer look. He’s paying attention to each one, checking them off his clipboard as they arrive. I helped organize the bracket for the chariot race, but Max is in charge of keeping it organized today. Not that I mind stepping up if needed.
Walking up to the chariots feels like looking behind the scenes of a parade. Most of the houses have painted their chariots with the colors that represent their fraternities or sororities. Some have added extra decorations, making it truly look like a float for a parade.
“Kyra!” Beth calls out as I cross the courtyard.
Her dark curls are in cute, messy space buns. All three of my sorority sisters are wearing these elaborate gold leaf headpieces. I smile as I walk over to them and look at our house’s chariot.
It’s been painted white with gold accents. Our Greek letters are painted pink on the sides. I love it. They were adding the second coat yesterday evening when I went to bed, completely exhausted. I’ve been moving non-stop since the day before the games began.
“This looks great.” I run my finger over the gold and notice how it has a metallic sheen to it. “This is our last event.”
“Who is winning?” one girl asks.
The activities are still being tallied. Although, even if I knew the answer, I wouldn’t tell them.
“Whoever is having the most fun, clearly,” Beth answers for me.
In truth, it doesn’t matter who wins. Not to me. Looking out at how everything came together, it was better than I imagined. No matter who wins, it already felt like we had. It felt like I had.

“How did it go?” Ares groans out between kisses.
I’d barely sat my bag down and he was on me. The door slammed shut and then he was pulling me into his arms. His hands frame my face as he lifts me up. I wrap my arms and legs around him.
“Good—” I barely reply, our lips fusing together.
“I’m so fucking proud of you.”
I cling to him, and his mouth finds mine again.
“I want to get you pregnant.”
My hands grip his shoulders, and I freeze. I pull back just enough to search his face. His eyes are dark, focused.
“Not right now,” he murmurs. It almost sounds like a lie. “But soon. I want you full of me.”
“I—Ares, I’m still in school.” It comes out breathless.
He’s got to be joking. We’re not having a baby while I’m in school. Wait, he wants a baby with me?
Ares’s hands roam over me as he lets me down slowly. I think I’m too shocked to move. His mouth caresses my neck and shoulder with soft kisses.
“Next year, during your last year. You’ll still graduate. I’ll take care of everything,” he whispers as his hands roam down my body. “We’ll have everything.” He lifts me up and then I feel him pressing into me.
When the fuck did he take off my panties?
“We’ll have everything we want.” He sinks himself into me.
I can’t think. I can’t argue, not when he makes me feel like this. He’s crazy but I must be too. Crazy in love.
