Chapter 27

Chapter Twenty-Seven

Jacob: I thought your parents were going to stay in Boston overnight.

Noelle: (inserts laugh)

Jacob: It’s not funny, Noelle.

Noelle: You’re the one who decided to fly here and . . . Well flashing Dad when he opened the door wasn’t very smart.

Jacob: I didn’t flash him.

Noelle: You were undressing when he opened the door. I’m pretty sure that’s flashing.

Jacob: You could’ve warned me about them.

Noelle: I didn’t think you were actually going to fly out here.

Jacob: When I say I’m going to do something, it’s because I’m going to do it.

Noelle: Flying here in the middle of the week didn’t sound typical. This was very out of character.

Jacob: If it involves you, I act first then I think.

Noelle: Which is why I’m back in Maple Ridge.

Jacob: I thought you loved the town.

Noelle: I do but the gossip is sometimes too much to handle. At least having you visit weekly keeps them entertained for days. I’m wondering if tonight’s episode will get around.

Jacob: Not if your dad doesn’t tell anyone.

Noelle: Mrs. Spencer saw you coming in and leaving. She’s wondering if things between us are good or if I lost the guy again.

Jacob: Wow that’s . . . Should I send you flowers to make a statement? Let them know I’m still crazy about you?

Noelle: Nope. Don’t bring more attention to me.

Jacob: Fine, but the next time I visit you we’ll make a statement. I’ll take you to dinner and show everybody we’re still together.

Noelle: You like the attention they give you.

Jacob: No, I don’t like that they’re on your case all the time.

Noelle: I like you, McCallister.

Jacob: Grumpiness and all.

Noelle: Grumpiness and all (it’s with an I, you should at least know how to spell your issues), have a good night . . . and a good flight.

Jacob: I’ll miss you.

Noelle: Miss you too.
