Chapter 10

Ginae and I never made it back to the condo, and it was only by the grace of God we made it to work on time. After she sucked my dick in the shower, my face ended up between her legs again. Before we finally got around to bathing, I had her bent over the bench, hitting it from the back.

Until this weekend, I hadn’t been sexually fulfilled since the last time Ginae and I had sex.

After taking a hiatus for over a year, I was embarrassed to admit how many women I’d run through, looking for the feeling Ginae gave me.

It took a few years to realize I wouldn’t find it with anyone else, and after that, I kept my hookups to a minimum.

“What else do these people know about me that I should be aware of?” Ginae asked as I parked in my parking spot in front of my office.

I’d just told her that my staff was aware of our past dealings.

“Nothing, baby. It’s not even that big of a deal.”

“Maybe not to you, but they smiled in my face all week, and none of them let on that they knew about us.”

“Because I swore them to secrecy and promised them three extra vacation days.”

“Why did you feel it necessary to tell them your business?”

“My staff is like my family. I’m with them more than I am with anyone else.

Every other week, one of them was trying to hook me up with a family member or friend of theirs.

I gave in a few times and went on a few blind dates.

Of course, none of them worked out. For a minute, they thought I was gay, and once I cleared that up, I explained to them my heart belonged to someone else. ”

“They thought you were gay because you didn’t like any of their family or friends?”

“Yeah. I thought it was funny, but I wasn’t offended. Once I told them what happened between us, they began praying for our reunion. That’s another reason nobody can convince me this wasn’t God’s work.”

I got out, retrieved our bags from the back seat, and went around the back of the car to open her door. After helping her out, we entered the building, holding hands. Before we reached the office, a voice behind us caught our attention.

“About fucking time!” Lennon shouted with his unprofessional ass.

We turned around, and he stood with his arms folded across his chest, grinning from ear to ear.

“I told you I would get my girl back. Baby, this is Lennon. He’s a pediatrician and works out of that office. We’ve been friends all our lives and own this building together. Lennon, this is Ginae.”

She offered her free hand to him, and he took it, but pulled her into a hug. Her body language said she was caught off guard, but she eventually returned the embrace. When they separated, Lennon’s smile was still wide.

“Well, well, well. I guess you aren’t a figment of his imagination. It looks like you decided to take him back, huh?” he questioned in a teasing manner.

“Should I reconsider? Is there something I should know?” she asked.

“Nah. Nothing bad, anyway. You got a good one. He’s been pining after you for a long ass time. Do you know how happy I am I don’t have to listen to his crybaby ass talk about how much he loves and misses you? I could kiss you.”

“And you could get fucked up too,” I told him.

“Ain’t nobody scared of your ass. Seriously, though, my boy has been fucked up about your breakup since it happened. I’m glad his prayers have been answered.”

Ginae looked at me, and all I could offer was a smile.

“Thanks for your honesty, Lennon. It was nice to meet you.”

“You, too. We should all grab lunch or dinner soon.”

“I’ll let you know,” I responded as we connected our fists before exchanging a one-armed hug.

We turned and headed to the office with only about ten minutes to prepare for our first patients. I opened the door and let Ginae enter first. Everyone was standing up front near the check-in counter and looked our way when we entered.

“Good morning!” Ginae greeted them with more enthusiasm than she had shown all of last week.

“Good morning. Someone is in a good mood,” Lauryn said, smiling.

“This is the first time I’ve seen you smile since you stared,” Tania said.

“Hold up. Did you two come in together?” Waylen asked suspiciously.

“Chill out. It’s too early for this,” I told them.

“Don’t tell them to chill out now. You’re the one who told them our business,” Ginae said. “If you must know, your prayers have been answered. Phyre and I are back together.”

My entire staff cheered and clapped as if someone had won the lottery, and I couldn’t lie, it felt like I’d hit the jackpot.

“I’m so glad you didn’t drag this out for that long, Ginae,” Jacklin said. “I was doing my best to give you grace. I couldn’t imagine having to work so closely with one of my exes, but damn, your attitude left a lot to be desired.”

Ginae gasped, looking completely shocked, as everyone agreed with Jacklin.

“I was nice to everyone,” she said in her defense.

“Is that what you call nice?” Lauryn asked.

“I don’t think you were mean, but you definitely weren’t nice,” Tania said.

“Damn. My bad. It wasn’t my—” she began before I interrupted.

“You don’t have to explain or apologize, baby. They were well aware of the situation and aren’t holding anything against you, right?”

Everyone agreed immediately, and Lauryn spoke up.

“It’s cool, Ginae. We’ve all experienced heartbreak—well, except for Waylen’s community penis having ass—and you were working under some extenuating circumstances. The way Dr. J still loved you after all these years, we knew you had a good heart.”

“And if you didn’t, it was his fault, so we wouldn’t blame you,” Tania added.

“I still feel bad because I’m genuinely a happy person.

It took every ounce of energy I had to come in here each day and pretend like Phyre wasn’t the only man I’ve ever loved.

In my quest to ice him out, I may have been a little cold toward y’all, and I’m sorry.

How about y’all forget last week and we start fresh today? ” Ginae offered.

They accepted her apology, and Ginae insisted on a group hug. It was corny as hell, but we obliged. After our kumbaya moment, we scattered about with a few minutes left before we officially opened for the day.

“Today was so much better. Last week, the tension was thick as hell,” Waylen said as we prepared to leave.

“I apologized once, but that’s all y’all getting,” Ginae said with a smile.

“Nah, girl. As we moved through the day, I realized it wasn’t just you. Dr. J wasn’t the easiest to deal with last week either,” Tania said.

“He sure as hell wasn’t, snapping at people for no reason and giving one-word answers,” Lauryn added.

“We’re not about to keep bringing up old shit. I might have been a little tense, but—”

“A little?” Everyone but Ginae chimed.

“Maybe more than a little, but we’ve moved on. Right, baby?”

I slipped my arm around Ginae’s waist and pulled her against my body.

“Right,” she agreed.

“Y’all heard my woman. We’ve moved on. If y’all keep bringing up old shit, your invitation to the wedding might get lost in the mail.”

They continued to tease us all the way out of the building. I wasn’t surprised by their behavior today because that was how we were with each other. I wouldn’t trade my staff for anything, because as much as I enjoyed my chosen profession, they made it a lot easier.

“Do you have plans tonight?” I asked Ginae when I got behind the wheel.

“I thought we were going to the condo to pack my things and take them to your house.”

“If that’s the case, it’s our house.”

“My name isn’t on the deed, so it’s your house, but I don’t mind moving in while I’m in town. Don’t make the condo available, just in case you get sick of me and I have to move back in.”

“You keep saying while you’re in town, as if I’ll let you leave, but we’ll cross that bridge another time. I couldn’t imagine ever getting sick of you. My sister invited us to dinner, and I wanted to see if you already had plans.”

“Umm, okay. I guess packing my things can wait another day. I still need to go to the condo to pack a bag for tomorrow and find something to wear tonight. Are we going to her home or a restaurant?”

“She wants to meet at Elm Street Blues. I’m pretty sure it was around when you were in here.”

“If it was, I’ve never been there. It sounds kinda fancy.”

“It’s an upscale restaurant, and the food is good as hell.”

We arrived at the condo, and I waited in the living room while she gathered her things.

“Is this okay?” she asked, holding up a black dress. “I didn’t bring many dressy clothes.”

“That’s perfect. I can’t wait to see it on you and take it off you.”

She rolled her eyes and returned to her room. A few minutes later, she was back with a bag on her shoulder.

“I’m ready.”

I stood, took the bag from her shoulder, pressed a kiss on her forehead, and we left.

“Being with you again is surreal,” I admitted.

“Yeah. A week ago—”

“Let’s not talk about where we stood a week ago. Just know I was miserable as fuck.”

“Me too.”

“Your stubborn ass was prepared to be miserable for months to come, huh?”

She shook her head. “I doubt I would’ve lasted much longer. It was too much effort and negative energy.”

“I was prepared to give you one more week to get your shit together. After this week, I would’ve used my key to let myself into the condo and forced you to listen to me.”

“What made you decide to write a letter?”

“My sister suggested it. After two days of you giving me the middle finger, I was about to lose my shit.”

She giggled. “You would’ve been all right. It was a good idea, though. I was too nosy to ignore it.”

“My sister said you would read it because women are nosy.”

“She was right. We’re about the same age, right?”

“Yeah. She recently told me she was pregnant and asked me to deliver my niece or nephew.”

“Oh, wow! How exciting. I’m sure you’re honored to do so.”

“Of course. I think you two will get along. I do want to give you a heads up, though.”

“Uh-oh. Should I be worried?”

“I don’t think so. Phoenix is married to Kavia’s brother.

His name is Kevin. We didn’t really get along when we were younger because Kevin was an asshole.

My parents actually threatened to force Phoenix to marry him if I didn’t marry Kavia, which was one of the other reasons I initially agreed to marry her ass.

Years later, they began dating on their own.

He’s changed a lot and treats my sister well, from what I can tell. ”

“Interesting. I’m kinda glad I grew up middle-class. You rich people do too much.”

I chuckled. “I agree. That’s why I don’t have many friends now. Besides Lennon, I don’t fuck with the people in the social circle I grew up in.”

“Is Lennon married?” I nodded. “Was it arranged?”

“Yes, but he also has a mistress who knows he’s married, and his wife knows about his mistress.”

“Umm . . .”

“Yeah. He very much lives in a reality TV show. I’m not sure how he manages it, but both women are cool with it.”

“If they like it, I love it, but don’t you ever in your life try that shit with me.”

“I wouldn’t, but I’m glad you’re thinking about our future together.”

We entered my gated community and soon turned into my long, curved driveway. Ginae didn’t wait for me to open her door once I pulled into the garage, and by the time I’d gathered our things from the car and gone inside, she was already in the bathroom, preparing to shower.

“What time are we meeting for dinner?” she shouted above the noise of the running water.

“Seven.”

We had an hour and twenty minutes, which I thought was plenty of time for a quickie.

“Phyre, what are you doing?”

“I think you know. C’mere.”

Ginae didn’t put up a fight at all. When our lips connected and our tongues dipped in, out, and around each other’s mouths, I felt like I’d made it home.

I was hungry for her, and her energy matched mine.

As we were drenched in the water from the shower, my dick hardened against her stomach.

She reached between us and grabbed it, rubbing the tip with her thumb before stroking up and down.

“I love you, Phyre.”

If I remembered correctly, it was the first time she’d said it first since we’d reunited, and that fact made my lips curl into a smile against hers.

“You love me?”

“I do.”

I backed her against the wall, and she tightened her arms around my neck as I lifted her legs around my waist.

“I love you more than you’ll ever love me.”

“Oh, yeah?”

“It’s a fact. You ready for this dick?”

“Always.”

I slid into her tight, slippery hole, and I sighed because nothing in the world felt better than Ginae’s pussy. Her mouth around my dick was a close second, but her pussy was always my first choice.

The quickie I had planned morphed into something more.

We didn’t have much time, but I took my time anyway.

Each stroke was deliberate and intentional.

I wanted her to feel my full length and the tip of my dick touching her gut.

I wanted her to feel every vein and the throbbing of my most sensitive muscle as I filled her with our future children.

“My God, Phy. Why does this feel so good?”

“This is what love feels like, baby. This is what it feels like when two souls made for each other become one. You were meant for me, and I was meant for you. Do you believe that, baby? Do you believe we were meant to be?”

“Yes, baby. I’m cummin’!”
