Chapter 34
Chapter Thirty-Four
Winter
We made it to Miles’s house quickly, and everyone took turns showering before meeting in the living room to build a nest for the egg. While we showered off the pixie dust, the egg was placed in one of the many cat beds with a blanket or three wrapped around it.
Miles was already looking into buying an incubator—not that I thought he’d find one big enough—or at least investing in some heated blankets or something else to either set the egg on or wrap it with.
His house was warm enough for us humans and the animals, but apparently, a dragon egg needed a lot more heat.
Which I supposed made sense since they tended to breathe fire.
Miles stretched after placing yet another blanket over the egg. “Holy crap, my ribs feel soooooo much better.”
“You hurt your ribs?”
He nodded. “When I fell, yeah. And those little asshats seemed to know exactly where I was hurting because they kept dive-bombing right into my ribs. Ugh.”
“But you’re feeling better now?”
“A lot better. I’m just a little sore.”
“Good.” I was feeling a lot better than expected too.
When Miles had found me tied to that tree, I’d felt really out of it. I’d even felt out of it while we walked. But after Miles left Chaos’s shield to get the egg, and Aeson had been helping me stand, I’d suddenly felt… perfectly fine.
And I still felt fine. Good, even. That was so weird, but I’d take it.
Both kids seemed good and uninjured, which was a major relief.
We’d come out of that a lot luckier than I’d expected after the pixies had taken us all down and dragged us away from one another.
What little dickheads.
Shaking that off, I pulled Miles over to sit on the couch with me while the kids sat on the floor and played with the cats. I draped an arm over his shoulders and kissed his temple.
“You doing okay?”
He nodded, still looking at egg-related things on his phone. “Yeah, I’m good. Just want to make sure the egg’s okay. I think I’m going to order a heated blanket.”
“Don’t you have some of those self-heating blankets or cat beds? They reflect your heat off of the cat or whatever animal sits on them or something?”
His eyes widened. “Oh! I do have some of those.”
Before I could blink, he was out of his seat and running around the house, grabbing even more blankets and beds.
When he came back into the living room, I couldn’t even see his handsome face. He had a pile of blankets in his arms, and they were so high they were above his head.
He was going to break a leg or something like that.
I started to jump up to help him, but Ace beat me to it, grabbing a big armful of the blankets and helping Miles carry them over. The two of them got to work, setting the egg on a self-heating pad, then wrapping it in some of those blankets, then putting even more blankets around those.
If that egg wasn’t warm enough as is, I’d eat my foot.
When they were finished, Miles sat beside me and didn’t hesitate to snuggle into my side, making me smile and kiss his hair.
We turned on a movie, ordered some food, and snuggled in—thank god. We’d have to drive the kids back to their car eventually, but for now, we could relax.
“Win?”
I jerked awake at the sound of my name, blinking hard as I took in my surroundings. Miles’s living room, and Miles was asleep on my chest.
I blinked some more and found Ace and Chaos standing over us.
Ace offered a small smile. “Sorry to wake you, but I wanted to make sure you knew where we went. We’re leaving, okay?”
“Huh? But I have to drive you back to your car.”
He shook his head. “Nope. We’ve got a ride.”
“But—”
“We’re fine, Win. Thanks.”
“You could stay here, you know?”
Ace grimaced and shook his head. “Nope. We’re going home.”
Well, shit. What was I supposed to do with that? I couldn’t force them to stay.
I was still half asleep, but I glanced around the room again, taking it in.
The kids had cleaned up our dinner mess, and now, Goliath was curled up in a ball in one of his dog beds—one that Miles bought him for his house—with Confetti on top of his head and Odin curled up next to his face.
It was adorable. Sola was on her big perch in the living room, head tucked under a wing, clearly asleep.
I refocused on Aeson. “Wait. Miles wanted to pay you for your help.”
Ace shook his head. “He did already. You fell asleep way before he did.” He snorted. “You were snoring.”
“I don’t snore.”
Chaos snorted. “You sounded like a vacuum cleaner.”
Clucky clucked from his shoulder in agreement. Lovely.
My eyes widened. “Oh my god, eww.”
He chuckled and leaned over to pat my shoulder. “Don’t worry. Miles thought it was hilarious.”
I huffed. “Great.”
He snorted again and gave me a wave. “Let us know when that egg starts hatching. Ace wants to see it.”
Ace nudged him. “Lies. You want to see it too.”
Chaos rolled his eyes and shrugged, not denying it.
“I’ll definitely text you guys as soon as we see the first crack.” It would likely take a few hours, so they’d have plenty of time to get here.
Ace grinned. “Thanks. See you later.”
“Did you take the leftovers?”
Chaos lifted the pizza box I hadn’t noticed in his hand. “Got it.”
“Alright, you two. See you for brunch.”
They started to leave, but Chaos paused and quietly said, “Can you tell Miles… tell him we said bye and, um, thank you?”
Before I could promise him I would, he rushed out the door, and Aeson gave me a wave as he walked out, shutting the door behind them.
Fuck. I really wish Higgins would get back to us about the kids.
If they really didn’t have a place to go, or if they were in a worse situation than we thought, we needed to help them.
But what could we do right now?
Dammit. I hated this.
Miles stirred in my arms, murmuring, “Did the kids just leave?”
“Yeah.”
“How are they getting home?”
“They said they had a ride.”
“Oh. I wish… I wish they would’ve stayed.”
“Me too. I told them they could, but they wanted to leave.”
“That… sucks.”
“Agreed.” I kissed the side of his head. “Want to head upstairs?”
He groaned and pushed me until I was lying all the way back on the couch, then he rolled on top of me, rested his head on my chest, and murmured, “Let’s stay here.”
I laughed. “So you can squish me to death?”
“Yep.”
I laughed again and ran my hand through his hair. He wasn’t actually squishing me since he wasn’t that big and half his body weight was on the couch between my legs, so I was content to stay here with him.
Miles removed his gloves, which made me extremely happy. He tucked one hand under my shirt and began running his fingertips up and down my side, making goosebumps appear there and lulling me into a peacefulness I only found when it was just the two of us alone.
Twenty minutes later, he scooted up my body to capture my mouth in the most tender kiss I’d ever felt. My belly swooped, little tingles of pleasure flittering through my chest. God, I loved this man. So damn much.
I really wanted to tell him, but I couldn’t. Not yet. He’d probably freak out and panic if I said it right now, and that was the last thing I wanted.
I needed to wait until he was ready.
But maybe I could show him.
Reaching down, I grabbed his leg, hooking it up and over my hip as I ground up into him and kissed him fiercely, my other hand tangling in his fine hair. We kissed for a long time, and I poured everything into it.
I knew he couldn’t actually sense my emotions because of my null magic, but I hoped he could still feel it in the way I kissed him, the way I held him, the way I… loved him with everything I had.
I slid my hand into his pants and grabbed his ass, making him groan and grind into me.
Our bodies moved together, our cocks hardening against one another as we deepened our kisses. He tasted so fucking good, felt so damn good against me. I loved Miles’s lithe body. He was fit because of his job, his muscles toned under his loose clothing.
I slipped both hands into his pants and squeezed his ass, pulling him harder against me, then I brushed my finger against his hole, and he sucked in a breath.
“You’re so sexy.”
That made him snort.
“What? You are. Sexiest man alive.”
He laughed at that. “Now I know you’re lying.” His voice was filled with amusement. “You don’t have to sweet-talk me. You’re literally already in my pants.”
I chuckled at that and nibbled along his collarbone. “But I like sweet-talking you.” I kissed one cheek, then the other. “Makes you blush oh so prettily.”
He snorted, cupped the back of my head, and pulled me into a kiss as he continued to grind against me.
We hadn’t had penetrative sex yet, and I wasn’t sure why. I’d been ready to since the first time I’d kissed him, but Miles always suggested something else when I broached the subject. Maybe he didn’t like it, which was completely fine. I was perfectly happy with everything we were already doing.
Maybe I should simply ask him about it.
But… not right now. I didn’t want to kill the mood.
So I pushed his pants down over his perky ass.
“Win,” he breathed into my mouth. “You need to take yours off too.”
“Mm. Anything you want, sugar butt.” I tapped his cute butt lightly.
He snorted again and climbed off me so he could pull off his pants and boxer briefs.
I wanted to watch him, but that would make him uncomfortable, so I stood and undressed, shucking my shirt and pushing my pants and boxer briefs down.
I used my feet to pull them the rest of the way off, but my boxer briefs got stuck on the toes of my right foot.
“Ahhh!” I yelled with a laugh as I lost my balance. I started to fall toward the couch, but strong arms grabbed onto me, stopping my fall.
Miles met my gaze as he made sure I had my balance, then he burst out laughing. I couldn’t help but snicker too.
I pushed my stupid underwear the rest of the way off my feet, then yanked Miles into my chest, kissing him soundly. He came willingly, wrapping his arms around my neck.
He still had a shirt on, so I lifted it so I could get my hands on his skin, but I didn’t try to take it off. I knew he liked having some kind of barrier—I picked up on that about the third time we’d fooled around—and I wanted him to have fun, not be worried about anything else.
“You can take it off.”
“What?” I leaned back, looking at his handsome face.
He smiled shyly at me. “My shirt, you can take it off.”
I searched his pretty brown eyes. “Are you sure?”
He pressed a kiss to my lips. “Yeah, I’m sure.”
My belly swooped again for a whole new reason. A naked Miles was a rarity I was definitely going to take advantage of.
Quickly, I yanked his shirt over his head and threw it to the side, then pulled him back into my arms. After thoroughly kissing the hell out of him, I sat on the couch and pulled him into my arms so he was on my lap, making out and touching, hands and fingers gliding over smooth skin, lips and tongues caressing everywhere.
Leaning over, I reached into one of the end tables’ drawers to grab the lube we’d stashed there a month ago when we realized we kept starting things in here. We hid it all the way in the back of the drawer, just in case someone else opened it.
I poured some lube into my hand, then reached between us and covered both our cocks. I slid my hand over us, moaning into Miles’s mouth as he did the same.
“Let’s lay down,” I murmured.
“Huh? How?”
I chuckled, then pushed him up, so he stood while I lay on the couch facing away from him.
Looking over my shoulder, I said, “Lay behind me.”
He blinked, staring at my ass for a few seconds before he focused on my face, flushed from being caught, then scrambled onto the couch. I reached behind myself for his cock, jerked him for a few seconds, then guided him between my thighs.
“Fuck my legs, baby,” I whispered over my shoulder.
In a deep, fake voice, he said, “Mm, talk dirty to me.”
That made me laugh loudly, and I smacked his hip. “Come on. I’m dying here.”
Miles chuckled and leaned up on his elbow, cupped my cheek to turn my face toward him, and kissed me as he slowly started pumping his hips.
The drag of his dick across my balls made me shiver, and I let out a small moan. “Feels good, lovey. So fucking good.”
His lips trailed over my neck, his hand gliding down my side, then over my abs. He scooted closer as he sped up his pumps and reached around me, took my dick in hand, and started jerking me off.
His hands, his lips, and his cock rubbing against me were almost too much to take.
“Feels good,” he muttered near my ear, then sucked on the skin on the side of my neck.
His hips sped up again, and he moaned loudly.
And that was it.
Hearing how good it felt for him was my undoing. Pleasure shot through me, zipping through my body like a tidal wave. When it crashed, I yelled and came all over the couch and Miles’s hand.
My body quaked in his arms, tingles of bliss buzzing like tiny sparks all over my skin, as he moaned and spilled between my legs. He rode out his pleasure, and I held onto his arm, needing that connection as he panted in my ear.
He wrapped his arms around me, hugging me tight, and I held onto his arms, leaning back into him as we slowly relaxed.
He kissed the back of my neck, and I lifted his hand to kiss his palm, then looked over my shoulder and asked, “Want to go up to bed?”
He nodded and kissed my shoulder before getting off the couch.
I rolled onto my back and cringed. “Shit, I need to clean the couch up.”
He looked over his shoulder from where he was grabbing his clothes, and his eyes widened. “Oh my god, that’s like… so much cum.”
Our eyes met, and we burst into laughter… and I kept on laughing as we cleaned up and made our way to bed, snuggling together again under the covers.
