Grayson's POV
Before I could head upstairs with Emily to discuss the events of yesterday, I was intercepted by my Gammer Carson.
His furrowed brow suggested that he had something important to share, and my heart tightened with a sense of urgency.
I glanced back at Emily, who was offering me that warm, encouraging smile I had grown to adore.
"Hold on a sec," I told her quickly, trying to mask the anxiety brewing inside me.
"I need to take care of some pack stuff.
I'll be upstairs in just a few minutes."
She nodded, still smiling, before turning away, and I felt a pang of guilt at leaving her before I could focus on what we needed to talk about with the others.
With a quick pace, I followed Carson into a quieter hallway, sensing the weight of the conversation ahead.
"What do you have for me, Carson?" I asked, my voice low but tinged with impatience.
"Alpha, we have a lead on the traitor," he said, glancing around as if to ensure no one else could hear us.
"Some of our warriors spotted someone sneaking out late at night.
We also got reports of him being seen in the woods acting suspiciously.
We're inclined to believe it might be Alpha Drake from the Edgewood Pack.
We've got eyes on him, so we should catch him slipping up soon. "
I felt my throat tighten, it made sense now.
Drake had always acted with an air of arrogance, and the thought that he could be betraying us stoked the anger inside me.
I nodded in response, grateful for Carson's diligence but anxious about what this could mean for all of us.
I needed to get back to Emily and then focus on what else mattered.
When I returned upstairs, I was met by everyone we soon engaged in conversation. Liam, who raised an eyebrow at me, clearly curious about the shift in my demeanour. He said, his tone teasing with a hint of seriousness, "is it true Alpha Noah? I was quick to respond "yes it is true"
A smirk broke across my lips as I instinctively wrapped my arm around Emily's waist, pulling her close.
I took delight in the way her presence grounded me, and I could almost feel Lucas's eyes narrowing on us.
I knew that his gaze lingered on the fresh hickeys I had left on her neck, and that realization stirred a mix of protectiveness and pride in me.
Liam had quickly silenced the younger wolf who was visibly green with jealousy. A firm promise to handle things with Lucas when they returned to Sliver Moon was made by Alpha Liam.
I appreciated Liam stepping in; it eased the tension before it escalated.
Lucas was still trying to find his place, and I didn't want to engage in a battle that would ultimately waste our energy.
Instead, I turned my focus back to Emily, her warmth beside me serving as a reminder of what was truly at stake.
Once we finished up, I led Emily outside into the lush garden.
The sun was shining brightly, a gentle breeze rustled through the trees, but inside, my thoughts were chaotic.
I felt the weight of what I had to share with her pressing down like a heavy cloud.
How on earth would she react to the truth about who I really was?
With each step, my mind raced. I could feel anxiety knotting my stomach, but as I looked at Emily's bright eyes, I knew this moment would change everything.
She deserved the truth. "Emily, I have something important to tell you," I said finally, my voice tinged with hesitation.
I took a deep breath, my heart pounding against my chest as I searched for the right words.
Her face lit up with an encouraging smile that set my nerves somewhat at ease. "You can take your time, Noah," she reassured me gently. "We're still getting to know each other."
Her calm demeanour eased my anxiety, but the truth of my identity loomed over me like a shadow.
I wanted to be completely open with her, to share everything about who I was, not just the title but the man behind it.
As her gaze remained steady on mine, I realized I had to trust that she could handle the truth.
This was about more than just my position; it was about us and the bond we were building.
Taking another breath, I steadied myself, readying to reveal the depths of my being to the one person who mattered most.
Before I could even get my next words out, a shattering siren erupted, its wail cutting through the quite air of the kingdom and echoing off the ancient stone walls of our home.
My heart sank as dread washed over me like a cold tide.
Of all times for chaos to strike, it had to be now?
I couldn't help but growl in frustration, I had wanted nothing more than a peaceful moment with Emily.
I pulled her close, with urgency and with desperation, I kissed her with a fierceness that spoke volumes of my fear and love.
Our lips met, and I wished to convey through that kiss a promise of protection.
"Please, don't leave my side," I whispered, my voice slightly trembling .
I searched her eyes for understanding, and there it was a mix of fear and fierce determination that made my heart swell.
With a quick squeeze of her hand, we took a step into a whirlwind of uncertainty. The air thickened with the sounds of battle, cries of warriors, the clash of wolves, and the distant roar of the elements pulling us into the heart of the battle.
