Chapter 22 Hidden Identity

Grayson's POV

After Drake was taken away, I was left in a spiralling case emotions, stunned and frustrated by Father's statement. The weight of my responsibilities settled heavily on my shoulders, and now I had to find a way to tell Emily my true identity before she heard it from someone else.

The thought of revealing my secret made my stomach churn.

What if she was upset with me? The truth was, I had wanted to tell her from the start, but doubt nagged at me like an annoying little bug.

Could I truly trust the people around her?

Every time I thought about revealing who I was, who I was meant to be, the fear of rejection loomed larger.

As I spiralled deeper into my thoughts, I felt a gentle squeeze on my hand, pulling me back to reality.

I looked down to find Emily gazing up at me, her bright smile cutting through my turmoil like a ray of sunshine.

My heart ached with love and resolve. I needed to plan how to tell her and soon.

In fact, by the end of today, I had to reveal that not only would she be my Luna, but she would also ascend to the role of Queen Luna.

Would she accept this? Would she forgive me for keeping this monumental truth from her?

"Noah?" Emily's voice was soft, pulling me back from the edge of my thoughts. "Is everything alright? You've been so quiet."

I managed a smile, though it felt a little strained. "Yeah, just...thinking about how perfect this ball is going to be." It was half the truth; I wanted her to feel excitement, not concern. "I can't wait to see you in a beautiful dress. You'll light up the room."

Her eyes sparkled with delight, and I'm sure my heart soared a little at her reaction.

"You really think so?" She twirled a strand of hair around her finger, a classic nervous habit of hers that I had come to adore.

"I just hope I can find something that matches the occasion.

Everyone will be looking at you, Noah, the handsome estranged Alpha. "

Her words struck me like a thunderbolt. We both knew the kind of attention this ball would attract.

"And everyone will also have their eyes on my Luna," I insisted, my voice firm but reassuring.

"You shouldn't worry about that. Just trust yourself.

You are breath-taking as you are, and anyone who fails to see that is blind. "

She chuckled softly, her laughter echoing through the halls of the palace. "You always know how to make me feel special. But what about you? Surely you'll draw a crowd."

I brushed it off. "I'm just the guy who gets lucky enough to have you by his side."

A moment passed, and I felt the tension between my heart and my secrets intensify. "Listen, Em..." I hesitated, unsure how to breach the subject weighing on my chest. "I... I need to talk to you about something. Something important."

Emily's expression shifted slightly. "Is everything okay?" she asked, concern etching the lines of her forehead. "You sound serious."

I forced a nod, masking the storm inside me. "We have time. I just need to sort out some pack stuff before the ball. I promise I'll pick you up in an hour to help you find the perfect dress. Maybe I'll even have the courage to tell you everything by then."

Her smile returned, bright and warm, but I could see curious clouds gathering in her eyes. "Alright, but you'd better not keep me waiting too long. I want to be ready for the ball! And if you need help with the pack stuff, you know I'm here for you, right?"

"I know," I replied, feeling a swell of warmth at her unwavering support. "Just...give me this hour. I'll be back before you know it."

I leaned down, pressing a soft kiss to her forehead, letting the warmth of the moment linger between us. "I'll be right back," I whispered softly, letting a hint of urgency slip through.

"Okay," she replied, blissfully trusting.

Her eyes sparkled, full of hope and affection, but beneath that, I could sense a flicker of apprehension, the same one reflecting in my heart.

As I turned to leave, I steeled myself for what lay ahead within those palace walls, promising that by dusk I would finally share my identity with the woman who would be my everything.

With one deep breath, I headed off to meet my beta, my mind swirling with plans and fears. There had to be a way to make this right. There had to be a way for her to understand.

As I strode through the hushed corridors of the palace, the weight of my lineage wrapped itself around me like an iron cloak.

Every step echoed against the marble floors, a reminder of the responsibility that awaited.

My beta, Michael , was already waiting in the study.

He leaned against the grand fireplace, arms crossed, his brow furrowed with concern.

"Is everything alright? You look like you've seen a ghost," he said, his voice low and steady, a grounding force amidst my swirling thoughts.

I managed a weak chuckle but could feel the tension in my expression. "Just... you know how it is. The ball, the pressure. And things have changed since... well, since Drake." A chill washed over me at the mention of his name, and I could see Michael's expression shift to something more serious.

"You need to focus, Grayson. this ball is crucial. Everyone's eyes will be on you both. If you don't command attention as the rightful leader, doubts and suspicions will run wild," he warned, his deep-set eyes narrowing with determination.

"I know," I admitted, running a hand through my unruly hair. The thought of the guests' scrutinizing glares made my stomach knot. "I need to tell Emily everything. She needs to know who she truly is, who I am."

Michael pushed off the mantel, stepping closer. "You have to be clear with her. This isn't just about you. You need to prepare her for the roles that await. If she's meant to be your Luna, she deserves to know what that means."

"What if she hates me for keeping it a secret?" I blurted, the raw fear hitting me like a blow.

"She won't hate you," he replied, his voice steady. "Not if you give her the chance to understand. But you have to trust her strength. She's not just any girl; she's special, and she'll stand by your side if you're honest with her."

With each word, I felt the glimmer of hope piercing through my doubts. "You're right. I can't hide it any longer. If I ever want to be Alpha King, I need to be transparent. No more secrets."

"Exactly," Michael said, a hint of relief washing over his features. "Let's go through the details for the ball. The last thing you want is to fumble while trying to keep your head straight for everything else."

We spent the next half hour hashing out last-minute arrangements. I focused on the tasks at hand while my mind drifted back to Emily, the warmth of her smile, the way she brightened my darkest thoughts.

"Okay, let's wrap this up," Michael said, a hand brushing over his face as he readied to leave. "If there's anything else you need to tell her, make sure to keep it clear. She deserves clarity on her future."

"Got it," I murmured, tension still coiling in my chest. "I need her to know how vital she is to this."

Outside our room, the golden clock on the wall ticked down the minutes. The anticipation prickled at my nerves. I took a deep breath, bracing myself as I pushed the door open.
