Chapter 29 Water Works

Emily's POV

four weeks had passed since the night my life changed forever, the moment when I learned I would soon become a mother.

The early morning sun streamed through the curtains, casting warm rays across our cozy bedroom.

Sitting on the edge of our plush bed, I stared absently at my growing belly, a physical reminder that a little life was developing inside me.

It felt surreal, a whirlwind of emotions stirring within me as I anticipated today's check-up with Dr. Jones, the royal pack's doctor.

I glanced at the bathroom door; Noah was taking his time getting ready.

The anticipation was almost overwhelming.

Just three weeks ago, Dr. Jones had explained that pups born to Alphas developed faster than human babies, meaning my pregnancy would only last five months instead of the typical nine.

While that was good news in theory, I found myself wrestling with anxiety.

Would everything be okay? Was my pup growing properly?

Finally, the bathroom door swung open, and Noah emerged, looking effortlessly handsome in his black jeans and a snug navy golf shirt that accentuated his build.

My heart fluttered as I watched him, but a wave of self-consciousness washed over me as I thought about how my body had changed.

I gently placed a hand on my belly, feeling its firm roundness, and took a deep breath.

With every passing day, I felt more and more like an expectant mother but it was hard not to feel a bit awkward with the rapid changes.

"Ready?" Noah asked with a warm smile that lit up his face. His excitement was palpable, and despite my worries, I tried to mirror his enthusiasm.

"Yeah, I think so," I replied, though my voice wavered slightly.

We arrived at the pack hospital, the familiar scent of antiseptic and lavender from the bouquets that decorated the waiting room comforting yet slightly unnerving.

The hospital buzzed with life: the occasional laughter of children intertwined with the hushed voices of caregivers.

The receptionist greeted us with warmth, leading us through the bright, airy halls filled with framed photographs of pack members representing generations of shared history.

Upon entering Dr. Jones's office, I saw her standing, her warm demeanour immediate and reassuring. "Good day, Alpha King and Luna Queen," she greeted us with a kind smile. "Are you excited about finding out the gender of your pup?"

"Yes! We've been counting down the days!" I said, barely able to contain the excitement bubbling within me.

She gestured for me to step over to the examination bed.

"Luna Queen, if you would please lay down and lift up your shirt, we can get started," she instructed, her voice friendly and calm.

As I did so, Noah moved to my side and took my hand, his warm grip instantly grounding me amid my swirling emotions.

Dr. Jones squirted a generous amount of ice-cold gel onto my belly, making me jump slightly.

"Sorry about the chill!" she said with a chuckle, spreading the gel carefully with the wand.

The monitor flickered to life, displaying shades of grey that began to take shape, and I suddenly felt raw emotion welling up inside me.

Hearing the pup's heartbeat was like music; it was a strong, steady rhythm that filled the room, and I couldn't help but tear up. This was real. This was happening.

As she focused on the screen, Dr. Jones's expression grew serious, then brightened. "The pup looks to be healthy, which is fantastic news!" My heart soared at those words, but the anticipation remained thick in the air.

"Noah, are you ready?" I whispered, my heart racing.

Dr. Jones continued, "Now, for the big reveal... from the image I see, congratulations, Luna Queen, you are expecting a boy!"

Joy exploded in my chest like fireworks, and I turned to Noah, tears of happiness streaming down my cheeks.

His face lit up with pure elation, and without a word, he pulled me into a warm embrace, wrapping me in a cocoon of love.

It was a moment etched in my memory forever, one that reminded me that all the anxieties I had were worth it in this incredible journey we now shared.

Our laughter filled the room as we took in the news, and I couldn't help but visualize our future together.

A son. Our son. The thought was overwhelming yet beautiful, igniting dreams of family adventures, shared laughter, and the endless love that awaited us.

For the first time in weeks, I felt a profound sense of calm and sheer joy.

Despite the uncertainties ahead, I was ready to embrace this journey, hand in hand with Noah and soon, with our little boy.

Four Months Later...

Time had flown by faster than I could have imagined.

It felt like just yesterday that I found out I was pregnant, and now the nursery for our little boy was all set and waiting for his arrival.

I couldn't help but smile at the extent to which Noah had excitedly prepared for our son.

He had practically bought out the entire baby store cribs, toys, clothes, and even the most whimsical nightlight shaped like a crescent moon.

I could never bring myself to tell him to slow down; his enthusiasm was infectious, and I loved seeing him so invested in this journey.

With the due date fast approaching, I had packed a bag for myself and our little one, arranging all the essentials with a mix of excitement and nervous energy.

In an unexpected turn of events, my mother and Lily had decided to throw me a baby shower, despite my initial resistance to the idea.

"It's nonsense," I had protested, "It's just a baby!

" But they were convinced that since it was my first pup, it deserved to be celebrated.

In the end, I relented, knowing how much it meant to them.

That sunny afternoon, we gathered in the beautifully decorated garden.

The scent of fresh blooms filled the air, mixing with laughter and the chatter of my family and friends.

My parents were there, along with Liam and Jess, Gamma Mason, Noah's parents, and Noah's Beta Michael and Gamma Matthew , who had been his best friends since diaper days.

While the ladies and I shared stories over a spread of delicious afternoon tea and sweet treats, I noticed the men huddled nearby, immersed in their own spirited discussions.

I sank deeper into the comfy cushions, feeling the warmth of the sun on my skin and the contentment of being surrounded by loved ones.

But just as I was savouring the moment, an alarming sensation washed over me.

Seated comfortably, I felt a sudden warmth trickling down my legs.

I looked down to see my dress darkening with wetness.

"Oh no," I gasped, "Noah! I think my water just broke!"

"What broke?" Noah called, his voice rising with confusion as he approached.

"My water!" I yelled, my heart racing. "The pup is coming!"

In an instant, Noah's expression transformed from shock to sheer urgency. Matthew, Noah's Gammer, stepped forward, eyes wide. "Ew! What is that, Emily?"

"Oh for heaven's sake, it's what happens when labour starts!" I shot back, eyeing him incredulously. "The pup is coming, you idiot!"

Noah sprang to his feet, instinctively darting inside to grab the hospital bag we had packed.

Chaos erupted as shouts cascaded around us, and everyone began to hustle toward the parked cars.

I can't believe this is happening, I thought, a mix of excitement and disbelief fluttering in my chest. Waddling as best as I could, I made my way to the main door, only to see the cars rev up and speed down the driveway.

"Wait, did they just leave me behind?" I muttered in disbelief, glancing around in confusion. Just as my heart began to race from panic, I spotted Noah's car racing back toward me, tires skidding slightly on the gravel.

"Shit!" he shouted, leaping out of the car before it had even come to a stop. He hurried over to me, his expression a blend of panic and determination, and gently scooped me up in his arms. It was a tender moment, even amidst the chaos, but I was breathlessly aware of the urgency.

"I'm so sorry, babe! I thought everyone had gotten you into the car," he blurted out, his voice filled with urgency as he plopped me into the back seat, barely closing the door behind him before taking off driving straight to the hospital.

"Don't worry about it now, just drive!" I said, half-laughing, half-wincing at the contractions that were starting to grip me.

He rushed into the hospital entrance, moving with an intensity that made it clear how ready he was to welcome our baby into the world.

It was chaotic and exhilarating, and while the whirlwind around us was overwhelming, I couldn't help but feel grateful to be on this journey with him.

Here we were, about to embark on the most incredible adventure of our lives together.
