16. Chapter 16
Chapter sixteen
Sutton
“ T his is the last time,” I say between pants. It’s a lie. I know it. He knows it. But it’s one I have to tell myself. And I have, every time my fingers have held on to his thick shoulders. Every time I have felt his breath on my skin. And every time I have wrapped my legs around his waist. And every single time, it has been a lie.
Damn, he feels so good. It’s like an addiction. I’m a junkie, and he is the only thing that can make me feel good. I crave him, even though I know I shouldn’t. It’s hard to explain because I also can’t stand him. But at moments like these, those thoughts go out the window because my body takes over.
He laughs into my neck, letting the heat of his breath caress my skin as his hips thrust himself into me over and over again. The sweet sensation of him being inside me is a pure pleasure like I’ve never known before.
“Stop lying,” he says as his hand reaches between us, finding my bundle of nerves. His fingers move in circles, and I can’t think as my orgasm builds. “You love the way I fuck you.”
“Shut up, Cooper, you’re killing my orgasm by talking,” I growl before pressing my lips to his. Our tongues tangle together as he continues to drive into me. I’m about to break, I can feel it, but I don’t want to. I want to continue to enjoy this for as long as possible. My body, though, has other ideas.
He laughs into my mouth as my release hits. My body shudders, and I pull his closer to mine. My nails dig into his back so hard he hisses in a mixture of pleasure and pain but never stops driving into me. My back arches, trying to steal every last bit of ecstasy from him. His movements slow as I feel him come inside me.
He rolls off me, grabs my face, and kisses me like I’m his salvation. The smile on his face is contagious when he lies back. “Sutton?”
“Hmm?”
“What are we doing?” he asks, his eyes closed, with one hand over his chest and the other tangled up in my hair.
“We are going into a post-orgasm coma. A cuma, if you will.”
He chuckles, and the sound has my body revving up for round two. “Not what I meant, and you know it.”
I roll onto my side, trailing my hand over his chest and tracing the definition of his body until I’m grasping his hardening cock in my hands. “You almost ready for round two?”
He sucks in a sharp breath before looking at his phone. “We have thirty minutes till we have to be across town, or Viv and Nate will kill us.”
I sit up to straddle him. “I can work with that, can you?”
He grabs hold of my hips and sinks me onto his hard shaft. “You bet your sweet ass, I can.” And we begin our dance again.
We end up arriving at the party fifteen minutes late. Mostly because round two ended up with us screwing like Olympic athletes. I don’t think I’ve ever been that flexible. God, was it delicious. I don’t even care what Vivian says, some things are more important than being on time.
Like my vagina’s happiness.
And nothing makes it happier than when it’s riding Cooper’s cock or mouth.
We’re both still straightening ourselves up as we ring the doorbell. Coop looks disheveled in a handsome way that makes me want him again, and I hate him for it.
I, on the other hand, look like I’ve been at the gym. My hairline is drenched in sweat and my lipstick is now a slight stain around my mouth.
“We smell like sex,” I mutter to him before the door swings open, and sweet Vivian scowls at me.
“Oh, look, if it isn’t the best friends who promised they would arrive early to help me set up for the party.” Her voice is laced with sarcasm. “Please do come in.” She holds the door open for us to pass.
Coop and I glance at each other before cautiously walking into the house.
She glances at our hands with pursed lips. “Empty-handed, too, I see,” she tsks before spinning away, leaving us alone in the entryway.
“This is all your fault,” I hiss at Cooper as he takes my jacket off me and places it in the hallway closet with his own.
“Yeah, like you weren’t a complete and willing accomplice in our tardiness.”
“Okay, here is the plan. You are going to tell Nate that you had a raging case of diarrhea, and that’s what kept us. He will discreetly tell Vivian, and she will pity me for having to be around you in your current condition.”
“What?” he balks. “I am not pretending like we were late because I had the shits.”
“Why not? It’s completely believable.”
His mouth falls open as his eyes bulge in horror. “No it’s not. Why would you say that?”
“Coop, baby.” I place my hand on his cheek. “You are the most at risk out of every person I know to get a raging case of bubble guts.”
His eyes widen and his mouth drops open. “No, no I’m not.”
I give him a thin-lipped smile. “Okay.”
I make my way through the house, passing Audra and Viv’s brother in a tense game of Jenga before making it outside to the gorgeous patio that never ceases to amaze me.
It’s an absolutely gorgeous backyard.
From the pergola that holds twinkling lights to the fire pit and hammocks. Nate and Viv’s yard is an outdoor paradise.
One that, from Viv’s stories, I know is home to lots and lots of sexy times.
Luckily for me, though, I know my bestie knows how to Lysol a place before a party.
I spot Nate by the grill and make my way straight for him, grabbing a kebab from the plate he just filled and shoving a delicious piece of meat into my mouth. “Sorry we are late, Natey boy.” I thumb over in Cooper’s direction. “Someone was having some tummy issues.”
Nate sighs. “Cooper, I told you not to try that sketchy hardware store’s sushi.”
Cooper doesn’t say a word, but he does glare at me.
Serves him right, though. He caused my best friend, my person, to be ticked at me all by tempting me with his wickedly delicious body. The least he can do is take the blame without letting them know what we were actually doing.
“Need any help?” I ask, not waiting for his response as I take the plate of meat and bring it to the table that has dish after dish of food laid out.
“As much as I would love the help, I know Viv would like it more.” He points to where she’s at in the kitchen, with a blender and what looks like multiple pitchers of margaritas.
“On it.” I salute him before sauntering past a still-silent Cooper with a grin on my face.
From a few steps away, I hear Cooper say, “I didn’t have any gastrointestinal distress. She is lying.”
“Bro, don’t lie to me.”
I can’t contain my laughter as I make my way inside the house to Viv.
“I’m the worst,” I admit, hugging her from behind.
“The absolute worst,” she agrees, leaning into my embrace. “You want to tell me what the hell had you coming in after everyone else?”
“Cooper was on the pooper?” I offer up.
A smile breaks across her face. “Nice try. I could tell by the fading lipstick smeared across Cooper’s face and neck that the two of you were late not because of his guts but because he was all up in yours.”
I scoff, immediately turning on the sweet southern accent I adapt when I can’t be bothered to be serious. “Vivian, I am a lady.”
“A lady of the night,” she snickers.
“Those are fighting words, my friend. Take ’em back.”
“I shan’t.”
I glare.
“Tell the truth. You were late because you were too busy knocking boots with Coop,” she implores with her big eyes staring into me.
“Shhh.” I fold my arms across my chest and glance around us. “There were no boots being knocked.”
“Sure, there wasn’t,” she says disbelievingly.
“But there was a certain snake in my garden.”
Vivian barks out a laugh so loud that everyone around us turns to see what’s so funny.
I hold up a hand. “Just telling her about Cooper’s upset tummy. This one loves potty humor.”
A couple of onlookers grimace, while others smile before returning to their conversations. But it’s Audra who pauses, giving me a look that screams suspicion as she walks over.
“Take it to the grave, Fisher,” I hiss at Viv before Audra wraps her arms around me.
“Now, what are you psychos actually laughing about? Because I know it isn’t Cooper’s bowels.”
“Nothing,” I spit out a little too fast to be casual.
Vivian and Audra share a look.
“So, Sutton, you and Cooper finally gave in?”
I rear my head back. “I don’t know what you are meaning?”
She laughs as Viv shakes her head, pouring margaritas into cups for us.
“Babe, you look like you were just fucked six ways to midnight, and Cooper has this glow about him that can only come from coming.”
I sputter. “I—I.”
“Oh, give it up, babe. She knows.”
“Well, she does now that you said that.” I frown.
“Nah, I knew the moment you two were walking up the sidewalk.”
I cant my head. “Were you spying on us?”
“Spying is a strong word from a stalker like you.”
“Harsh,” I whine. She isn’t wrong, though. Last year, I put on a disguise and watched over Viv as she ended a doomed relationship with a busy doctor she had been trying to rebound from Nate with. And Viv, well, she straight up attempted to stalk Nate when she realized she wanted him back. The girl drove around town looking for him, attempting to stage a run-in before he finally found her in the end. “But true.”
“He smacked your ass, and you smiled.”
“So?”
“Wait, she smiled?” Viv chirps, handing us both a plastic margarita goblet with sugar lining the rim.
“Yeah.” Audra nods, taking a sip of her drink. “Like big, megawatt, ‘he is the sun in my rainstorm,’ ‘I would let this man do anything to me’ smile.”
“Huh,” Viv says, taking a sip.
“Huh? What, huh? What does that mean?” I ask.
Vivian claps me on the shoulder. “It means you’re screwed, my friend.”
Audra laughs. “It means Cooper and Nate’s dream of getting married to best friends is finally in the works.”
“Whoa there, cowgirl, no one said anything about marriage. We are just sleeping together.”
“And living together.”
“Yes, but—”
“No buts about it. You guys are a couple.”
A belly-shaking laugh rips past my lips before I argue, “No, we are faking being a couple.”
“Are you, though?” Audra squints at me.
“Yes,” I say, exhausted with this line of questioning already.
“Is the sex fake as well?”
“No.”
“Do you two spend time together when no one else is around?”
“Yes?”
“It’s not a trick question,” she teases.
“It sure feels like a trick,” I tell her.
“The only ones playing games are you and Cooper as you pretend to not actually be together.”
I shake my head, desperate for her to understand. “It’s really not like that.”
Audra holds up her hands. “Okay, I’ll stop. Just do me a favor and think about it. About what you actually feel for the man and what you want, and do it before either of you falls too deep to be saved.”
And with that, she takes her drink and walks away.
“What the hell?” I give Viv a questioning look.
She shrugs her shoulders. “I think she has a point.”
“No you don’t.”
“Yeah, babe, I really do. You and Cooper are an item, whether you admit it or not.”
“Ugh, you are supposed to be on my side.” I glare while tipping back my margarita. Alcohol is the only solution to this conversation.
“I am.”
“No, because if you were, you would be agreeing with me.”
“So being on your side means lying to you?”
I nod. “When the occasion calls for it, yes.”
Viv shakes with laughter as she grabs two pitchers and gestures for me to do the same. “Come on, my man and your fake man are waiting not so patiently.”
Across the yard, Cooper and Nate are standing by the grill with beers in their hands as they watch us place the three different pitchers of margaritas on the table. I fill my glass back up and grab another of the strawberry-flavored one before following Viv over to them.
Nate wraps an arm around Vivian’s shoulders the moment she pulls up beside him. It’s sickeningly sweet. Honestly, I am surprised she is still gulping down margaritas and not barefoot and pregnant already. It’s coming. I know it. And they both know it. It’s only a matter of time before their twosome involves a mini Fisher.
I thrust out the strawberry margarita to Cooper. He looks at the drink and then back up at me before hesitantly taking the drink.
“Thank you.” He smiles, setting his beer on the counter beside the grill and taking a drink of the tequila concoction.
Feigning nonchalance, I shrug. “Figured you would rather have some flavor.”
