Chapter 64 - Ben
BEN
‘What are you doing tonight?’ I poked my head around the office door where Sarah was working.
‘Um, I was going to post some more content from the bar opening, finish wrapping the wedding favours, then do some more writing, why?’
‘Okay, no worries,’ I said.
‘No, no. Tell me!’
‘Well, I was just going to organise a special evening for us in the library.’
‘Sounds cool! How about we do something around ten-ish? Then I could do more writing, social media and just finish the final wedding prep tomorrow.’
‘Perfect!’ I smiled. ‘See you later.’
As I closed the door and walked down the corridor, my chest tightened. Whilst this would be a special evening, what Sarah didn’t know was that it was also a goodbye.
For weeks I’d wanted to talk to her about the fact that I was leaving.
I’d contemplated doing it on the day that I showed her the desk.
But she was so happy I didn’t want to upset her.
I was happy too. Relieved that she liked it.
That was the first time I’d made something that big for someone as a gift and I’d enjoyed every second.
Perhaps what made it extra special was knowing that it would help Sarah.
It’d be great to do more carpentry at some point.
Since that day, there’d been other times I’d thought of discussing the elephant in the room, but I’d always found a reason not to.
My excuses ranged from not wanting to distract her from her writing when she was making good progress, to worrying about taking her away from focusing on promoting the book bar.
There just never seemed to be a good time.
But it was now Friday. Tomorrow we’d all be busy running around tying up loose ends for the wedding.
Sarah would be staying at Jess’s to help her get ready on Sunday morning, and Theo would be staying with me.
There was no way I could break the news on Theo and Jess’s wedding day, so realistically this was the last opportunity because on Monday morning I’d be leaving. For good.
Telling Theo yesterday had gone surprisingly well. In fact, he’d seemed so nonchalant that I’d had to double-check that he’d actually heard me.
‘You said you’re leaving,’ Theo had confirmed.
‘Yes.’ I’d nodded, expecting him to be a little sad. Especially given how crestfallen he was a couple of months ago when I’d first mentioned I’d be going. ‘It’s for the best.’
‘Sure. If that’s what you really think. Some time away with Tom will give you some clarity,’ he’d added before asking what film we should watch, like it was no big deal.
To be honest, I was shocked that he didn’t try to persuade me to stay, but I reasoned he had too much going on with the wedding, so I left it at that.
Something told me that telling Sarah wouldn’t be as straightforward. Then again, maybe I was overthinking it and she’d be fine. After all, we’d agreed that it’d never be anything serious. Our arrangement always had an expiration date.
She’d asked to extend it by a month to help her finish her outline draft and although it only felt like days, the reality was it’d actually been several weeks.
We’d had a great run, but it was time to call it quits now.
Before we got in too deep.
And before someone got hurt.
Once the library had closed, I started setting everything up.
An hour later it was all done, so I went to my flat to bring Sarah down.
‘I’m going to cover your eyes. No peeking.’
‘Okay!’ she said.
Once we were in the main library hall, I removed my hands.
‘Oh my God!’ Sarah shrieked. ‘This is amazing!’
I’d positioned an inflatable bed on the ground, surrounded by battery-powered candles in the shape of a love heart.
Beside the bed were a pizza box, a bottle of champagne, some chocolates and other snacks.
‘Glad you like it. I guessed that having a sleepover in a library had to be one of a bookworm’s fantasies, so I thought it would be nice to do that before I—’
‘You’re right!’ She cut me off. ‘But not just a normal sleepover. My biggest fantasy is having an adult sleepover in a library. I know Jess and Theo have done it here and I’d put money on the fact that Jane and Jackson have too, so I’m getting a bit of FOMO!’ She pushed me back onto the bed.
‘Maybe we should eat and talk first?’ I asked. ‘About the future?’
‘Later!’ she said.
‘But—’
‘Please, Ben.’ Sarah’s face turned solemn. ‘Let’s have this night together. We can talk about serious stuff later.’
She reached between my legs and started stroking me.
‘Fuck,’ I growled. ‘You know I can’t think straight when you touch me.’
‘So don’t think. The main library door is locked, right? We’ve got the whole place to ourselves, so just lay back and relax.’
Sarah shuffled downwards, unzipped my fly, reached inside my boxers and pulled out my cock.
I was about to protest, but Sarah wrapped her fingers around the base of my dick, then leant forward, giving it a long, slow lick before sliding it into her mouth.
At that moment I swear to God that I saw stars.
Every ounce of logic flew straight out of my mind.
I gripped her hair and pushed myself deeper, revelling in the sight of Sarah’s head bobbing as she took more of me to the back of her throat.
Sarah moaned like my cock was the sweetest thing she’d ever had in her mouth.
Fuck.
I hadn’t even known that pleasure like this existed, but I was glad that I was experiencing it.
Sarah was right.
We could discuss the future later.
Afterwards.
This was the last time Sarah would go down on me, so although I knew it wasn’t the best decision, I decided to lie back, relax and savour every second, just like she’d told me to.
