Chapter 81
Anu-Ms K
Two hours after that incident. I’m still in shock until we arrive at the clinic Daniel had asked Jordan to take me to.
He’s called several times to check on my pain level, but there’s no pain.
I’m just numb. Daniel’s friend is gentle.
He examined me and said I need to rest, then he checked the baby and paused, making me wonder if something was indeed wrong.
“How far along are you?”
“About ten weeks,” I say.
He continues to check, and I can’t tell why he’s keeping quiet. Daniel rushes into the room like a storm. He ignores the doctor and comes to hold me tight. I tremble and start to cry in his arms.
“I got you, Princess,” he whispers.
He pulls from the hug and wipes my tears.
“Is everything okay, Collin?” he says to the doctor.
“Yeah, the babies are fine.”
“Babies!?” Daniel and I both echo.
“Yes, you guys are having twins, and they are both fine,” he says, smiling. Daniel is frowning and I go into sad mode. Never mind that I’m barely out of shock from my earlier attack. Daniel squeezes my hand gently.
“Collin, my wife is a sickle cell patient,” he says. I watch the doctor’s surprised face and the horrid look he tries to hide.
“It would be a high-risk pregnancy, but with extra and close monitoring, they should all be fine,” he says.
Daniel gently squeezes my hand. I nod. It’s an understanding that we’ll discuss our fears at home.
“Thank you, Collin,” he says.
I fix my clothing, and Daniel helps me to my feet. Jordan and Bruce are waiting when we come out.
We all quietly head to the car and home. I don’t know how to feel or what to say. My emotions are all over the place. Daniel helps me to get in bed. I take the meds the doctor told me is safe to take.
“What happened to the guy?”
“Don’t worry about him”
“Is he going to go after my brother?”
“No, he’s going to prison. And I spoke with your brother.
He knows you are okay. And he didn’t cheat that guy out of his family money.
His father begged Derin to buy the company because he needed money.
When his father died, he left the money to the guy’s uncle and asked him to take care of his son, but the uncle squandered the money and lied to him. ”
I nod.
“I’m scared,” I whisper, as tears drip down my face.
He wipes my tears and gets in bed, holding me.
“I got you, princess. We’ll talk to your doctor first before we make any decisions.”
“Okay,” I mumble. “If it ever comes to it, between me and the twins, please, choose them,” I say.
“Go to sleep, princess. I got you,”
“Daniel…”
“Sleep, my love.” I nod and close my eyes, pulling him closer to feel the warmth of his presence.
I know he will choose me first, but I need him to choose them over me.
