Chapter 11

SHANE

After Justin text me questioning me about Ava, I knew then that he had fucked up royally.

Justin tried me calling himself putting part of the blame on me talking about I should’ve woken his ass up ‘cause he ended up oversleeping, but that was on him. Hell, I was just as tired as his ass was after we got done fucking that shit wasn’t my fault.

I was sort of shocked about Ava snapping on him for getting home late because she usually complained to me more about it instead of addressing it with him.

That was part of the reason why Justin had a bad habit of having no issues with staying out late. Ava had created a monster and hadn’t even realized it until it was too late. I be trying to give her the tea on how to move with him but she don’t be wanting to listen to me.

I started fucking around with Justin when he and Ava had broken up because she thought he was cheating on her with some chick.

Justin had come to my shop for a haircut and lining one day, and somehow, one thing led to another, and we ended up hooking up later that night when I got off work, but they weren’t together.

Ever since then, we’d been fucking around with each other faithfully.

Justin’s sex game was intoxicating, I couldn’t lie.

I was addicted to him as much as he was addicted to me.

He knew his way around a man’s body like something I’d never experienced before, and I’d been with my share of men.

I was no fool because I knew that I wasn’t just sharing him with Ava.

To be honest, I sort of felt like since they were on break when we started our fuckship that he was stepping out on me with Ava and mainly using her as a coverup for him being bi-sexual.

But, being the good friend to Ava that I was, I never acted no type of way about them getting back together.

And, whenever I was around her and Justin at the same time, I always played it cool.

In fact, I was very supportive of their relationship, as well as their marriage.

I knew that there was someone else in his life because Ava told me everything about her relationship with him.

Sometimes, she’d be upset about Justin not coming home until late at night and he and I hadn’t been together that particular today.

But I wasn’t really trippin’ about that either because I had my share of honey dips, so it was what it was.

One thing about him and I was that we didn’t discuss all of our sex partners with each other.

Since he had a wife he wasn’t privy or deserving of my business like that.

I didn’t feel that I needed to tell him my business, and I wasn’t interested in knowing any of his either. I was privy to too much when it came to him and my bestie, but again, being the good friend that I was to Ava, I was always there for her to vent too.

As I laid in bed after texting with Justin about him and Ava falling out and her not going home, I couldn’t help but to get the urge to call her.

Justin said for me not to because it would look too obvious and I got that.

Like, how was I supposed to know that they had got into it and she hadn’t come home, especially with it being after one in the morning.

She never called me to tell me what had happened.

So, as I laid here in bed, I tried to think of a good decoy story to come up with as my excuse for calling her.

Knowing that she was at her sister’s house, in a way, I didn’t want to call this late and have her smart mouthed ass sister say some slick shit.

Dawn and I were cool, but it was only on the strength that she and Ava were sisters.

It was no secret that we didn’t care for each other…

we just tolerated one another because we were civilized adults.

With it being so late and knowing that they both had to be up early for work, including myself, I decided to wait until later in the morning to call.

In the meantime, I laid in bed and pondered over what lie I could come up with to not make myself look obvious for when I did call her. Then I dozed back off to sleep.

The next morning

Waking up bright and early, I reached for my phone before I had even got out of bed to brush my teeth or wash and clean my ass and face.

I was super anxious to get the tea on what happened.

Going to my text thread, I figured I’d hit Justin up first to see if Ava had come home before I’d reached out to her.

Me: Good moaning

Jay: What’s up? You heard from your bestie

Me: Nope, that’s why I’m checking in with you. Have you

Jay: Nope. Her ass super petty. Keep me posted if she reaches out

Me: You know I will

Jay: Thanks

Me: I hope I get to see you later

Jay: Text me when you get off work

Me: Bet

After texting Justin, I went to my call log and scrolled to Ava’s name.

Pulling up her number then hitting send, I waited for her to answer the phone, but the call went straight to voicemail.

Hanging up then trying to call again, the same thing happened; the call went to voicemail.

Not really thinking too much about it, I got out of bed then headed into the bathroom so that I could wash my ass and get my day started.

Three hours later, I was dressed, smelling divine, and looking like a whole meal ready to head off to work.

I was finally cutting and lining my last client for the day, and I couldn’t have been any happier.

My feet were killing me, and I was so hungry that I could eat an ox.

Once I was done with my last client, I checked my cellphone to see if I had any messages or missed calls and realized that I hadn’t heard from Ava at all today either.

She and I talked every day, so that was unusual for her to not call me, especially with this being two days that she and I haven’t talked.

Going to her number in my log, I called her up, but the call went to voicemail, again.

At this point, it was obvious that her ass had her phone turned off.

Going to the Facebook app on my phone and logging in, I checked to see if she was online, but she wasn’t.

Digging a little deeper, I went to my Facebook messenger to see if it showed when the last time was that she was online and it didn’t even have a time.

Ava was clearly beside herself and now, I was starting to worry hoping that she hadn’t done anything crazy because she was M.I.A.

I stopped at the grocery store Jewel to get some crab legs, shrimp, and andouille sausage so that I could cook up a quick crab boil before heading home.

Making it to the house, I prepared my crab boil, popped it in the oven, then jumped in the shower so that I could change into something comfortable.

Once I was done, I decided to give Justin a call to see if he had an update on Ava’s whereabouts and to see if he was still planning on coming over.

“Hey boo, any update on my bestie?”

“Nope, every time I call, her phone goes to voicemail.”

“Same here. I know you said not to call her, but it’s not like her to not call me at least once a day. I haven’t heard from her in two days. I sure hope she okay.”

I filled my electric kettle with enough water to make a cup of noodles then hit start. There was something about ramen noodles with a seafood boil that hit different and just right.

“Her ass is fine she’s just acting out. I thought about calling Dawn, but Ion want to deal with her ass.”

“Lord, this isn’t like her to just up and disappear though.”

“I noticed that one of her overnight bags is gone, so I know she good and that she planned this lil’ disappearing act she done pulled.”

“Well, just give her some time to get out of her feelings I suppose. She’ll be back. I’m just shocked that she’s that pissed about you coming in late. Like, she hasn’t tripped out like this before what made this time so different?”

“My thoughts exactly. Went rummaging through the clothes I had on that night and all.”

“Speaking of…” I interrupted. “How could you be so careless fool!”

“Man look, I forgot about the damn wrapper to be honest. I didn’t think she would go snooping through my shit.”

“Men can be so slow. Come on now! You gotta do better, Justin. Women are master investigators. If they wanna find some shit out that’s just what they gon’ do. I thought you were smarter than that. Hell, I wouldn’t be surprised if she hasn’t smelled your drawers a time or two.”

“Smelled my drawers! What the fuck yo! That’s some nasty shit. Ava told you she smelled my fuckin’ drawers before?”

“Oh no, love, that’s something she probably wouldn’t tell a soul if she’s done it. I’m just saying, you need to be way more careful. No wonder she up and ghosted on yo ass.”

“Well, for what’s it’s worth, she should’ve been more concerned with getting ready for work and not being nosey. I was always told if you go looking for trouble, trouble is just what you gonna find,” he said.

“True, but you’re the ass that’s in trouble, fool, not her.”

“Whatever, Shane. I’m done talking about the shit. All I gotta say is that your bestie is foul for leaving and not at least checking in, but it’s cool. She don’t like that shit happening to her, but she turns around and does the shit to me. But it’s whatever.”

“On another note, I cooked some crab legs and shrimp. I just took it out the oven actually. I’ll save you some if you want. Did you anything today?”

“No, not since this morning. Good looking out. I’m on my way over now.”

“I’ll make you a cup of noodles too. See you when you get here boo.”

Hanging up with Justin, I felt better knowing that Ava had packed her a few pieces of clothes and planned on leaving.

For a minute, I was hoping nothing crazy had happened to her.

Justin leaving a condom wrapper in his pocket was just plain stupid.

If he didn’t start being more careful, I was going to have to either ease up on him a bit before he blew our cover or school him on how to cover his tracks better ‘cause that was some bullshit.
