Chapter 13 Justin #2

“Straight facts, bro. We been at it all week about the shit too. Her ass pulled a disappearing act and was gone for four days. I couldn’t even reach her ass ‘cause she had her phone off the whole time and shit.”

“Awww…hell nah! Yo ass wild, bro. Well, catch up with me when you get off punishment and shit.”

“Fosho, I’ll hit you back later.”

“Bet.”

Hanging up with Tate, I started to go upstairs to see what Ava was up to only to be startled finding her standing in the family room off to the kitchen playing with the puppy.

I hoped like hell she didn’t overhear me talking about her sister to Tate, otherwise, we were going to be right back at it again, damn.

“Were you just talking to Tate?” Ava asked as she continued to play with the dog without looking up at me.

“Yeah, did you think of a name for him yet?” I asked, trying to change the subject, but I could tell by her body language that she was pissed.

“I heard everything you just said about my sister. You just don’t get it, do you?” Ava asked.

“What don’t I get?”

“Why would you talk about my sister like that?”

“Come on, man, let’s not act like I said anything that isn’t truthful about her.

It’s no big secret your sister hates me and she’s not one of my favorites either.

And, when was the last time she had a steady man in her life?

I’ll wait,” I asked being sarcastic. “Right… never! So please don’t start in on me and act like I did or said anything out of pocket about her ass. ”

“So, you bash my sister to your friend, and you don’t think you’re wrong for that? Wow, Justin, I swear you’re really something else.”

“So, you don’t bash me to her and your friend Shane?” I rebutted, getting fired up all over again. “Keep it real, Ava. You tell your sister every damn thing about what we got goin’ on. I believe that’s why her ass don’t fuck with me now.”

“See, this what I mean. I can’t with you! No matter how much I try, I just can’t ‘cause you don’t have no chill at all.”

“You can’t what? Hell, it’s not like I called him specifically to bash her ass.

Tate called me and was telling me that she was acting funny towards him.

Let’s not sit here and act like your sister don’t be with the shits with every damn body.

Hell, you the only person she likes besides herself.

She be talkin’ about Shane’s ass like a dog, too.

She the one that ain’t got no chill, not me. ”

“Wow, really?”

“Then, you say I do the most, but you eavesdropping in on my conversations and searching my pockets and shit. What’s with all that shit?”

“Obviously, it’s because you do shit to make me act this way. Clearly, you’re the one up to no good, walking around with used condoms in your pockets and coming in the house at all times of the damn night… or shall I say morning.”

“You know what, you just might be right. Maybe we need some more time a part ‘cause this shit is getting out of control.”

“Ha, ya think!”

“This shit makes no damn sense to me at all! What you not gon’ do is sit here and act like your sister hasn’t said worse about me trying to make me out like I’m the only bad person.

Then, I apologized to your ass for fucking up, but you,” I paused, pointing my forefinger in her face, “you never own up to your shit, ever!”

“My shit!” Ava challenged. “I don’t do shit to yo ass to cause you to act out or be concerned about what I got goin’ on when I’m not around you. But you, my nigga, you stay fuckin’ up.”

“Oh, so everything is all on me, huh?”

“Yep, pretty much.”

“Wow, but you married my ass though! I’m officially blown!” I huffed, shaking my head in disgust. “Searching through my shit, telling all our business to anybody that would listen… it’s cool. Bet that shit right on up!”

“That’s not the point.”

“Like hell it ain’t!” I bellowed, causing the dog to start barking.

“You over there looking all funny in the face about what you think you heard me say about Dawn’s ass, but I don’t hear you giving me my props for declining his invite to go hang out at his crib though.

Like damn, can a brother get just an ounce of credit when it’s due from your ass? ”

“First off, lower your tone ‘cause you already skating on thin ice with hot roller blades. You’re right, Dawn can’t stand you no more than you can stand her, so I guess y’all are even.”

“Bet. What about me choosing to stay home instead of going out to kick it? Can a nigga get his props please?”

“If you want to go out, go out. From what it sounds like to me, you’re only staying in the house because we on the outs. Keep it real, if nothing else! Go out if that’s what you want to do. But if the sun beats your ass home, don’t bother coming back.”

“You can’t be serious. This my house how you gon tell me not to come home.”

“Oh, but I am. I’m dead ass serious as a fucking heart attack too, J. Try me.”

“Come here,” I said in my most seductive voice I could muster up. “I know what yo problem is. You know you one sexy motherfucker when yo ass is mad.”

Sitting behind her on the couch as she sat on the floor with the dog, I started rubbing on her back. Seeing how far she would let me go, I tried to slip my hand down the front of her shirt.

“Aht, keep your hands to yourself, patna. We not cool like that.”

“Damn, that’s how you gon’ do a brother? You been gone for days baby! You don’t miss me ‘cause I missed the shit out of you.”

“Stop, J!” Ava giggled, and I could tell she was finally starting to soften up.

Watching her play with the puppy, I could see that I made a great choice by getting the dog for her.

I knew eventually that darn puppy would help soften her mood.

I didn’t believe in all that emotional support mumbo jumbo, but I get it now.

Hell, I was tempted to go out and get a second dog if one had her flip this quick.

“You know what you wanna name him yet?” I asked again.

“Hmmmm, what about Bully?”

“Bully? Why Bully?”

“Because that’s what you sounded like when you were talking about my sister to Tate. You sounded like a big ass bully!” Ava spat as she got up, picked up the dog, and marched up the stairs.

“Oh my God! Have some chill, will ya! Where you goin’ now?” I asked.

“The bedroom.”

“Oh, snap, let me join you. I know what you need to shake that ‘tude you got.”

“Don’t bother! Like I said, we not cool like that. Me and my puppy the only ones gon’ kick it in the bedroom.”

“It’s my bedroom, too.”

“It is, but you gon’ be campin’ out on the couch until further notice,” she shot back.

Blowing out a deep breath, I couldn’t do anything but shake my head. Tonight was about to be a long ass night for a nigga for sure.
