Chapter 6

Tazim fumed as his driver sped away from the ridiculously small house! Ann was still as beautiful and stubborn as ever. He didn’t understand why she preferred to live in near poverty instead of accepting his offer of marriage. If he hadn’t seen the reply himself, Tazim never would have believed her to be that brutal. Ann had been the sweetest, kindest, and most passionate woman he’d ever met. When they’d been together five years ago, it had been difficult to keep their hands off each other.

And now, she hadn’t wanted to even look at him. And what the hell did she mean about guilt? What did he have to feel guilty about? If anything, Ann should feel guilty for the way she’d rejected him!

The woman lived in a tiny house! Did she have any idea of the luxury he could provide for her?

Obviously not, he thought with increasing fury. And even that irritated him. He’d been so angry five years ago after reading her note. The dismissive tone had told him that he was no longer needed or wanted in Ann’s life. She’d just…pushed him away with a damn note! The woman hadn’t even dumped him in person!

Taking in a slow, deep breath, he forced his anger to dissipate. What had he expected tonight? Tazim shouldn’t have gone to her. He should have left things alone.

But yesterday by the stone wall, she’d looked at him with those blue eyes, so confused and…and damn it, he’d seen the love and yearning in those eyes! It had been just a flash, but she’d wanted him! And he’d never gotten over Ann either.

Still, tonight had been a miserable, stupid mistake. He shouldn’t have fallen for her tricks. He’d thought there had been something beautiful between them five years ago and then…she’d dumped him with a note. A freaking note!

It was time to move on. Tazim had thought he’d done that five years ago, but obviously, he hadn’t completely purged her from his mind.
