Chapter 14

R AIN

“I can’t believe you did this,” I say, sliding naked under the covers next to him. “Setting up that threesome thing.”

He shifts his eyes from his phone, raises an eyebrow at me, and tosses a cocky smile.

“Seriously, Rain?”

I laugh, my face buried in my pillow.

He chuckles, too, and rests his hand on my butt when his phone chimes with a message.

I flick my gaze to him and watch him type a reply.

“Who was that?” I ask.

“Ed.”

He sets his phone on the nightstand before rolling to face me.

Our eyes lock.

“Lex made fun of me,” I say.

A grin lines his lips.

“Are you surprised?”

“No. He thinks I’m getting old.”

“You’re not getting old.”

“And forgetful,” I add.

“That’s a different story,” he says, pushing a smile to his lips while looping his arm around my waist and pulling me into him.

He presses his chest against mine, affecting me immediately.

My heartbeats get in sync with his, helping me to relax.

Slowly running my knee up his thigh, I open my legs for him.

“You forgot how intense it can be...” he says softly, his breath tangled in my hair.

Gently, I kiss his neck.

“That’s exactly why she’s not going to do it,” I say quietly.

“Yes, she will.”

I tip my head back and look at him.

“First, she needs to say yes.”

“Of course,” he says, a mysterious grin curving his lips.

“Stop smiling like that.”

“Why wouldn’t she say yes?” he murmurs teasingly before locking my lips.

I moan, indulging in his kiss.

“Are you set to stir me up with your threesome talk?”

“Yes, I am. I’m not sure it’s working, though.”

We lock eyes again.

Giving me a lopsided smile, he observes me through his eyelashes.

My grin fades.

“I’m happy that I took you off the market. You could be so much trouble,” I say.

He bites his lip, light exploding in his eyes.

“I can say the same thing about you.”

“I’m nowhere as bad as you are, and still, you’ve managed to stir me up with your talk if you want to know.”

Slowly, I run my hand down, grab the root of his erection, position it between my legs, and tilt my hips, his tip pressing against my entrance.

He fills me to the brim in one smooth motion.

“See... I told you,” I murmur.

Rocking his hips, he thrusts into me again.

“That’s how I like it,” he says before taking my lips.

His phone rings on the nightstand, and I become tense under him. He doesn’t flinch.

“Ignore it,” he says.

I’m trying to do just that, but it doesn’t work.

His cell phone stops before humming again.

He grabs his phone and turns it off.

“Who was it?” I ask, realizing it’s late.

Past midnight, I think.

He shifts back to me.

“Preston.”

“It may be important.”

“I’m sure it is, but it can wait.”

He rolls his hips, burying his hard length deep in me.

“I’ll call him when I’m done with you,” he says.

I forget about the call and smile.

“Nothing can stop you, huh?”

“Not now. Not when you’re under me,” he says, moving into me while I clutch his body, my lips seeking his lips.

Later, when we’re done, and he walks out of the shower, he remembers about the call.

He snatches his phone from the nightstand and calls Ed while his back hits the pillow.

“I’m listening, Preston... Yeah, yeah. Of course, you caught me at a bad time,” he says with a good disposition. “Shoot.”

A few scrambled words come from the other end of the line.

“Uh-huh... Okay. No. Seriously?”

His expression changes, a grin flooding his eyes.

“Are you serious, man?”

The explosion of joy coming from the other end of the phone line makes me pull up and prop myself on my elbow.

I look at him, curious.

“What happened?” I murmur, smiling.

“Congrats, man. Well done, motherfucker,” he says, laughing. “Here, tell Rain. She wants to know.”

“What...?” I ask, taking his phone from his hand.

He crashes into the pillow, his gaze on my face, gauging my expression as I talk to his friend.

“Hey, Ed. What’s going on?” I ask, my eyes on James.

“We’re expecting twins. A boy and a girl.”

My mouth falls open.

“Are you kidding me?? When did you find out?”

“A few hours ago.”

“How is she?”

“She’s great. She feels much better now.”

“Congratulations. I’m so happy for both of you. I can’t wait to get back home and go shopping with her. I guess your house is no longer that big, after all. Now that your family is growing.”

“Yes. Probably not,” he says quietly, his emotion noticeable in his tone. “She’s fine. She got used to the house. I’m so happy that it won’t be empty from now on,” he adds, and the emotion lining his voice kills my smile.

A lump forms in my throat and tears build up between my lashes.

James notices it, and his expression changes.

I slide back into the pillow and roll to my side, hiding my eyes from James.

“Well... I’m happy things worked out in the end,” I say mellowly. “Tell her not to be nervous. I’ll be there for her.”

“She’s not. She gets better every day. Learning, adjusting. She’s good. She really is.”

“Okay, then. I’ll let you talk to James. Congratulations again, and send my best to her. Bye.”

I hand the phone to James, who takes it, his gaze searing my face. I try to evade his eyes.

They talk for a few more minutes before he ends the call and sets his phone on the nightstand.

By then, I lie on my side with my back turned to him, my eyes hovering over the view plastered across the windows.

He moves closer, presses his chest against my back, and snakes his arm around me, sealing me against his body.

“What happened, baby?”

“Nothing.”

He waits for a few moments before nudging me to my back to see my face.

“What’s going on?” he asks, concerned, his eyebrows pinched into a frown.

Splaying my hand over his cheek, I take in his handsome face.

“What’s bothering you?” he asks.

“What if I can’t get pregnant?” I say quietly.

“What are you talking about?”

“I’ve been off the pill for more than a month. What if I can’t get pregnant?”

He reads my eyes.

“It’s only been a month. It’s too early to think about it.”

“It’s a possibility.”

“We’ll deal with it if and when it becomes a certainty,” he says.

I open my mouth to say something else.

He presses his index finger against my lips, prompting me to listen.

“You have to stop doing this. I’m not the kind of man who likes to waste his time with ifs and buts. I know it’s important to us, but we have to let it take care of itself. Just because Ed hit the jackpot with twins doesn’t mean you can’t get pregnant,” he says, smiling and making me grin.

But only for a moment.

I stay quiet before I speak.

“I’ll make an appointment with my doctor when I go back… I want to get it checked,” I say.

He ponders.

“Okay.”

“You might also need to make one when you come home.”

“Or we can do this... We’ll see my private doctor here in Monte Carlo on Monday morning before going to a specialist. And we'll both have an answer by the time you fly back home with Lex next week. Would that work for you?”

A soft smile tugs at my lips.

“Yes,” I say, winding my arms around his neck. “Yes, it would,” I add before kissing him.
