CALDER

I have made a grave and foolish error. Sabella has seen me.

I saw the terror in her eyes before I ran away from her.

Now, things will have to change. New plans must be made. Perhaps it is for the best. She has suffered isolation and disparagement for long enough, in my opinion.

The matriarch of my familial group, Delphine, has gone away and left her partner Yonaz in charge, which may be a stroke of good fortune. He is around the age of thirty and as serious as an arithmetic lesson, but his heart is tender. I think I can convince him that the time has come to bring Sabella into the fold.

As I hasten to our hidden home in the forest, I rehearse the speech I will use to persuade him to issue her an invitation.

I only hope she’ll be willing to accept it.
