Ghost
Pissed was a fucking understatement. Luxe cuffing me to a truck wasn’t on my bingo card for the day.
She hopped into that car and sped the fuck out of there, leaving me behind.
When Savion told me it was gon’ be complicated watching after her, I just thought I was gon’ be dodging bullets and shit.
Not having to chase behind her like she was a fucking toddler.
“Sir, you need some help?” a woman asked when she stepped down off the curb. Her eyes zeroed in on the cuffs on my wrist.
“You got a hairpin or some on you?”
“No.” She shook her head.
That was when I knew I was gon’ have to do exactly what I didn’t want to—call the police. It was either that or break my wrist attempting to get off the truck. Judging by the way shit was going with Luxe, I was gon’ need both my hands to deal with her.
“Call the police or security or something,” I told her, that way I didn’t have to end up doing it myself.
The woman removed her phone from her purse, and I watched her as she dialed the number and placed it to her ear.
“Yes, I’m out here in Eastchase in front of Bath she only just wanted to try and get rid of me, but I didn’t get pushed away that easily.
“Thanks,” I said and hopped down out the truck.
Using the key that Savion had given me, I entered the house and shut the door behind me.
Music could be heard coming from down the hallway, so I followed it until I made it to the doorway, where I found Luxe swaying her hips in the kitchen between the island and the stove.
The mufucka was in here acting like she didn’t just abandon me.
By now, she was dressed down in an oversized graphic T-shirt. Her curly hair was pulled up in a bun on top of her head. She didn’t have any makeup on. I noticed that she didn’t wear it like that anyway. Luxe was such a natural beauty.
“Are you fucking serious?” I asked, and she jumped.
With her hand resting against her heart, she asked, “Are you trying to give me a heart attack?”
“I’ma give yo’ ass more than a fucking heart attack if you leave me like that again.”
Luxe frowned. “I don’t know why you take your job so seriously. I was just having a bit of fun.”
“You need to be taking your life seriously.”
“What makes you think I don’t?”
Luxe’s right brow lifted to her hairline. She reached underneath the counter, and a gun tapped against the marble. She then stepped over to the pantry and pulled the door open. Hanging on the back of the door was a shotgun.
“I very much take my life seriously, especially with the type of family that I have,” she said and shut the door.
It was nice to see that she was prepared for whatever.
“Now, since it seems like you’re not going anywhere, it looks like you’ll be taking the bedroom next to mine. Stop sleeping out in the hallway like a creep. Mkay?”
Luxe didn’t even wait for me to respond. She just went back over to the stove and continued to cook.
“The food will be ready in twenty. Get out my kitchen and let me cook.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
I tossed my hands up into the air and backed out the kitchen.
