Luxe #2
“I’m gonna go get changed so that we can take that necklace.”
I went to grab my luggage, but he pulled it away from me. This man really wouldn’t let me do anything whenever he was around.
“Where’s the room?”
Without uttering a word, I walked toward the first bedroom where I was gon’ be sleeping. It had the perfect view to the beach with sliding doors that led out to a patio where a hot tub was located. I couldn’t wait to wake up to the sunsets in the morning.
Ghost tossed my suitcase onto the bed and left out of the room.
I shut the door behind him and opened my luggage to find something to toss on.
Marco wanted me to meet him at seven to drop off the necklace.
Once I was done meeting him, I planned on going to grab me something to eat.
It felt like I was starving. Before I left, I made sure to eat, but my stomach was rumbling now.
I decided on this black suit with a red blouse. Anytime that I met up with a client, I tried to make sure that I looked professional. I was my brand, and no one was going to catch me slipping.
It didn’t take me long to take a quick shower and get dressed. By the time I came out of the room, I found Ghost sitting in the living room part of the suite, cleaning his pistol.
“Thought you were gon’ take longer than that,” he said without even looking in my direction.
“Nope, but you don’t have to rush. We still have a little time.”
I went into the kitchen part and opened the refrigerator to see what they had in there.
It was a bottle of wine and some tequila.
I wasn’t trying to be wasted by the time I made it to Marco, so I just pored myself a reasonable glass of wine and took a seat at the bar to wait for Ghost to finish up.
Of course, he wasn’t gon’ leave the suite without his gun.
Knowing him, he probably had another one on him.
Being able to take weapons with me on trips was another reason why I’d never take a commercial flight ever again.
Some form of protection had to be on me at all times, especially in the line of work that I did.
The stuff was dangerous. Even though I’d been working with a lot of my clients for many of years, I still didn’t trust them.
Every single meeting I went to, I had the thought in the back of my mind that those people could fucking kill me. It was how I survived for so long.
“I’m ready,” Ghost announced as he stood to his feet and slipped his gun into his waistline.
“Kay.”
I slid the glass onto the counter and got up from the stool. Grabbing the briefcase off the counter, I handcuffed it to my wrist and headed for the door.
“You know I could’ve carried that for you,” Ghost said as he held the door open for me.
“I don’t trust anybody. You know I’m not about to give you this.”
“You trust me with your life but nothing else? Make that make sense,” he said as he opened the door for me, and I got into the back of the truck that he rented for us while we were here.
Okay, he kind of had a point there. I had to do better at trusting people.
Ghost got into the truck alongside me, and the driver pulled away from the curb. He already had the address to the meeting location, because Ghost had given it to him upon his arrival.
Marco chose this little restaurant for us to meet him at. He just gave me a name and time to be there. I checked the place out to see what it was before I even agreed to meet him. Marco could’ve walked me straight into a trap. I had to be smarter than that.
We pulled up to the restaurant, and there were only two cars in the parking lot. Marco must’ve rented the place out to conduct business or owned it one. Either way, I was ready to get this over with.
Ghost got out the truck first and held the door open for me.
I slid out of the seat with the briefcase in hand and headed toward the entrance of the building.
He held his gun in his waistline as he opened the door for me.
Standing right in front of us was this huge baldheaded guy. He blocked us from fully entering.
“I have to search you,” he said and stepped toward Ghost.
“Don’t fucking touch me,” Ghost objected.
“Just let him check you so we can get this over with. I’m hungry.”
Ghost’s jaw muscles tightened. I knew he probably didn’t want this man to touch him. We’d be in here all night if we had to wait on them both to puff out their chests at each other. He removed his gun from his waistline and said, “This all I got on me.”
The guy patted him down, and Ghost’s free hand balled into a fist. He reached for Ghost’s gun, and he shoved him back. “You’re not taking my shit. You’re crazy if you think we’re walking in here naked. If yo’ boss wants this fucking briefcase, you gon’ let us inside.”
Now he was getting in the way of my money. Marco was getting this shit one way or another. I didn’t care if he had to bring his ass outside to the truck and get it.
The guy’s face stiffened, but he eventually stepped out of the way.
Ghost led me further into the building, where I found Marco sitting at one of the tables with another guy standing behind him.
I wasn’t too much worried about all his guards, though.
I had faith that Ghost was gon’ be able to protect me against anybody.
“Ah, the beautiful Luxe.” Marco stood to his feet to greet me. One thing about this man, he was gon’ always hand me a compliment whenever he saw me. This man was a huge flirt, but he knew not to take it there with me.
“Marco.” He pulled me in for a hug and pecked me on the cheek. Soon as his lips brushed my cheek, Ghost pulled me away from him. He was acting as if the man was trying to hurt me.
I cut my eyes at him and then took the empty seat at the table. The briefcase clacked against the wood as I set it down.
“This one was hard to get,” I made known and then unlocked the briefcase. That was exactly why he trusted me to get it in the first place. If anybody could get their hands on the impossible, it was me.
Marco’s eyes lit up as he stared at the necklace. He reached for it, and I slammed the briefcase closed down on his fingers. His eyes shifted to mine, and I said, “Aht, aht. You know the drill. Where’s the money?” I was like a prostitute. I wanted to see my money up front.
He sucked on his throbbing finger and then beckoned to someone behind me. A duffel dropped on the floor at my feet. I leaned down and unzipped it. Nothing but Benjamins.
“That’s more like it.”
I uncuffed myself from the briefcase and pushed it over to Marco. He opened it back up and examined the necklace for a bit.
“We’re good?” I questioned him.
“Yeah.” He nodded, and then I got up from the table.
