Chapter 14
Nolan didn’t let him watch the video that night but dragged him for a second quick shower before wrapping him in a giant fluffy robe and sending him back to bed.
“Did you read without me?” He gave Nolan a reproving look as Nolan pulled back the duvet.
Nolan grinned. “Did I read my book that you made me start over without you? No, I did not.”
Nolan tucked him under his arm, pulling him close and grabbing his book off his nightstand. Kai was in that space between tired and wanting to stay awake to savour the sound of Nolan’s voice, the scent of his bodywash on his warm skin and the way it felt to be all wrapped up in him.
Kai liked the book but hated the mom. It kind of stressed him out.
The way she treated Zane made him want to punch something even though he knew the story wasn’t real.
He knew there were cruel people like her in the real world.
Hell, he’d been cruel. He could see them in his mind’s eye.
All the people who’d had the misfortune to cross his path.
Some people got mean when they found out they’d been conned, but they were the easiest to deal with.
By far the worst were the people who weren’t afraid to show their wounds or who didn’t understand about cruel people.
It filled Kai’s belly with a sick, slithery feeling when he thought about it.
Liam always said he was too soft, but that was Liam.
He would burn the whole world if it meant taking care of family first. It had always seemed right, even when it felt wrong.
“Hey, are you paying attention?” Nolan jostled him gently, dragging him away from the unpleasant spin his thoughts had taken.
“Do you think Zane’s mom is going to realize how bad she treated him at the end?”
“I hope so. I think Zane would deserve that. Sometimes you don’t get closure though. Sometimes you just have to make peace with the fact that people are who they are.”
“What do you mean?”
“Well, I think we can spend a lot of time wondering why people do the things that they do. Truth is, sometimes they don’t even know.
Zane can spend his time trying to figure out why his mom’s the way she is or he could spend his time with Bennet, who really cares about him and maybe hope his mom figures out how important he is to her on her own. ”
That made sense, Kai supposed. “You’re really smart.”
Nolan looked amused but pleased. “Thank you, baby. You falling asleep or are we still reading?”
“Still reading,” he answered, even if tiredness was already weighing down his eyelids. Nolan obliged, but it wasn’t long before the deep timbre of Nolan’s voice was lulling him to sleep.
“Daddy.”
Nolan paused, concern creasing his forehead. He was so fucking beautiful. Kai was just past drowsy, but looking up at Nolan, he was punched in the gut by the realization that he wanted Nolan to be the last thing he saw before he fell asleep forever. “Kiss me goodnight.”
Nolan’s whole face softened. He set the book down on his nightstand and flipped out the lights so that they were thrown into darkness. Then he gathered Kai into his arms, tucking his hair behind his ear as he kissed him lushly.
“Goodnight, sweetheart.”
“Goodnight, Daddy.”
Kai was roused by the feel of Nolan stretching beneath him.
He tried to drag himself towards consciousness, disoriented, since it felt way too early to have to be awake.
Nolan’s lips pressed to his cheek, a murmured command to sleep whispered in his ear and, just like that, he sank back into cozy warmth, rolling onto Nolan’s side of the bed and burying his face in his pillow, letting the scent of him drug him back to unconsciousness even as he felt Nolan slip away.
It had to be hours later when Kai finally woke, alone in Nolan’s bed.
He flopped onto his back, tangled in the robe he’d fallen asleep in and the heavy duvet.
Every inch of his body felt sore, like he’d been put through the most intense workout of his life.
His dick filled as memories of last night flooded back to him.
Would he still have Nolan’s handprints on his ass?
Fuck, that would be so hot. He made a move to reach for his cock, needing relief from the pressure before he remembered that wasn’t allowed.
He flung his arms over his head with a groan, his hand coming into contact with the book on the side table.
He reached for it, flipping it to where they’d stopped the night before.
Nolan had assured him that all romance novels had a happily ever after, but so much bad shit had happened in the beginning, it was hard to imagine that it could.
He flipped through the pages until he was closer to the end.
“Hey! What are you doing?”
Kai jumped guiltily, lifting his head to see Nolan coming through the door, a cup of coffee in his hand, amusement on his face. He was already dressed in sweats and a hoodie.
“Nothing. Just…checking.”
“You’re going to ruin it. Sit up.” He plucked the book from Kai’s hand and dropped it back on the table, handing Kai the cup and leaning in to kiss his lips.
“Good morning.”
“Morning. What time is it?”
“Close to nine,” Nolan said, taking a seat on the edge of the bed, facing Kai.
“How are you?” Nolan had a way of looking at him like he had his undivided attention.
Kai loved it, but he also didn’t know what to do with it.
It was like being given a gift that you didn’t know you wanted but without the instructions. It made him happy but awkward.
“Sore.”
Nolan broke out a grin that warmed Kai from the inside out.
“Do I need to check for permanent damage?”
Kai’s dick pulsed with the need for attention.
“Yes.” The answering flare of lust in Nolan’s eyes was the only notice Kai got before his coffee was plucked from his hands and Nolan shoved the duvet down, manhandling him onto his belly and shoving his robe aside.
Kai yelped at the sudden attack of cold air on his hot skin, but then Nolan’s hand was on his ass, massaging almost reverently.
“Beautiful. Still all pretty and pink.” He pulled his cheeks apart. “Hmmm, no permanent damage.”
Kai was so turned on, he felt like he was going to explode.
Nolan’s fingers grazed down his crease to his sac, rolling it in his hand and tugging gently.
Kai buried his face in the pillow, grinding his hips into the bed for some much-needed friction and spreading his legs to give Nolan more access.
He felt Nolan shift. Then his hips were pulled into the air and his nuts encased in Nolan’s hot mouth.
Kai swore as Nolan sucked and laved at him, making him insane with need.
“Daddy, please.”
Nolan pulled off of him with a pop. “What do you need, baby?”
“I need to come.”
“Anything my baby needs. Turn over and let me work that pretty cock.”
Kai hurried to obey, lying flat on his back and spreading his legs wide.
Nolan didn’t make him wait, taking him to the back of his throat, working him over with his tongue and his suck, like he meant to drag every ounce of pleasure out of Kai’s body.
Kai gripped the sheets, desperate to make it last but he was so close.
His hips canted up every time Nolan retreated, searching for his mouth to take him deep again. “I’m close,” he panted.
Nolan redoubled his efforts, swallowing around him. Kai’s orgasm punched through him, making his body twitch. Nolan didn’t stop, milking every last drop out of him.
“My turn,” Kai said as Nolan crawled up his body, his laugh vibrating through Kai. He kissed his mouth, giving Kai a taste of himself.
“Nope. Drink your coffee, take a shower and come have some breakfast. Katie heard you were over and she wants to visit you.”
“Wha? Not even a taste? What time is she coming?” Kai asked incredulously. Kai didn’t actually mind. He liked Katie, when she wasn’t cutting into his cock-sucking time. Nolan kissed him again. Kai arched into it, trying to draw him in.
“An hour or so.”
“That’s so much time.” Kai pouted.
“I’ll make you a deal. If you’re downstairs in fifteen minutes, you can have your taste after breakfast.”
Nolan grunted as Kai shoved him off of him, leaping out of bed before pausing, looking down at Nolan half-collapsed on the bed.
“Can I borrow some sweats?”
Nolan grinned, dragging himself up and leading the way to the giant master closet that was bigger than their whole trailer. Nolan pulled out a pair of navy joggers and a white t-shirt, while Kai glanced around at the shelves upon shelves of designer clothes, suits and sneakers.
“You’re running out of time, baby boy.”
Kai hurried, scrubbing himself down quickly under scalding water and brushing his teeth in the shower to save time.
When he slid into the kitchen ten minutes later with his half-drunk coffee and Nolan’s joggers cinched tight at the waist just to keep them up, Nolan smiled in amusement.
His gaze drifted over Kai, and Kai saw a flare of lust in his eyes along with something else.
Something almost possessive. Kai liked it.
He took his seat at the table, and Nolan slid a plate with a breakfast wrap in front of him.
“I like you in my clothes,” Nolan murmured close to his ear.
Kai wanted to say something glib, but the truth was that he loved being in Nolan’s clothes.
They were soft and smelled like him. It was as close to being wrapped up in him without actually being wrapped around him.
He wished he could be cool about it, but he just couldn’t get there.
Instead, he blushed, ducked his head and shovelled his wrap into his face, keenly aware that Katie’s arrival was imminent and he still wanted to get Nolan out of his pants.
Nolan sat across from him with his own breakfast, eating slowly and watching Kai. Halfway through, his hand disappeared from the table where it was resting, into his lap. Kai’s eyes latched onto his arm, suspicious and hungry.
