Chapter 6
A Few Weeks Later
Constantine
The bright Mediterranean sun streams through the open windows, filling the living room with a golden light that dances across the polished tile floor. I’m leaning against the kitchen counter, enjoying the scent of fresh coffee brewing in the air. The aroma is a comforting reminder of the mornings I’ve spent with Bianca, and I can’t help but smile at the thought of her.
I hear her humming softly from the other room, her voice blending with the gentle rustle of the olive trees outside. She’s been in such a good mood lately, and I can’t help but feel grateful for the life we’re building together here in Greece. It feels like a dream—our home, our future stretching out before us.
I take a sip of my coffee when she walks in, her face lit up with that radiant smile that always makes my heart race. She’s wearing one of my oversized shirts, the fabric hanging loosely on her frame, and it’s a sight I never tire of. “Good morning, sleepyhead,” she teases, her voice playful.
“Morning, beautiful,” I reply, setting my mug down and moving to wrap my arms around her waist. She melts into me, and I breathe in the scent of her hair, a mix of coconut and sunshine. “What’s got you in such a good mood?”
She pulls back slightly, her eyes sparkling with a mixture of excitement and nervousness. “I have something to tell you,” she says, her voice softening.
My heart skips a beat, sensing the weight behind her words. “What is it?” I ask, searching her gaze.
She takes a deep breath, her fingers fidgeting with the hem of my shirt. “I… I think you should sit down for this.”
I feel a flutter of nerves in my stomach but follow her cue, leading her to the dining table. I sit across from her, watching as she clasps her hands together, a nervous energy radiating from her. “Bianca, you’re scaring me a little. What’s going on?”
Her smile returns, albeit a bit wobbly. “I’m pregnant, Constantine.”
The words hang in the air like a spell, and for a moment, everything around us fades away. I stare at her, processing the news, my heart pounding in my chest. “You’re… pregnant?” I repeat, the weight of the realization slowly sinking in.
“Yes,” she confirms, her eyes wide with a mix of excitement and apprehension. “I took a test this morning, and it was positive.”
I feel a rush of emotions crashing over me—joy, disbelief, elation. I can’t help but laugh, the sound bursting forth from deep within me. “You’re serious?”
Her smile widens, and the tension in her shoulders melts away. “Completely serious. We’re going to be parents!”
I jump up from my seat, my heart racing with exhilaration. I wrap my arms around her, lifting her off her feet and spinning her around, the world fading away as I hold her close. “This is incredible, Bianca! I can’t believe it!”
When I set her down, I take a step back to look at her, absorbing the beauty of this moment. She’s glowing, and I realize I’ve never seen her more radiant. “We’re going to have a family,” I murmur, feeling a mix of wonder and responsibility wash over me. “I’ve always wanted this with you.”
She nods, her eyes shining with tears of joy. “I can’t believe it either. It feels so surreal.”
I take her hands in mine, feeling the warmth radiating from her. “We’ll do this together, every step of the way. I want to be the best father I can be.”
Her smile broadens, and I can see her excitement mirrored in my own heart. “I know you will be. You’re going to be an amazing dad, Costi.”
The thought of us becoming parents sends a thrill through me. I envision the future—a little one running around our home, laughter echoing through these walls. “We’re going to fill this place with love and laughter,” I say, my voice thick with emotion. “It’s going to be perfect.”
Bianca’s eyes glisten as she leans in closer, her forehead resting against mine. “I can’t wait for that future. I want to share every moment with you.”
As we stand there, our hearts racing in sync, I feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude for the woman beside me and the family we’re about to build.
