Chapter 10 Old Faces
Gu Tingchuan didn’t notice me.
Lin Yuan'er spotted me first.
She immediately looped her arm through Gu Tingchuan’s and cooed.
“Gu Tingchuan, you promised—once I formed my core, you’d give me that spiritual wood hairpin.”
“You can’t go back on your word.”
“Mmm, we’ll talk about it later…”
Gu Tingchuan seemed to be searching for someone and only answered absently.
I knew Lin Yuan'er had said it loud on purpose for me to hear.
That spiritual wood hairpin was a treasure I had refined from thousand-year spiritual wood.
After knowing each other for a hundred years, I had given it to Gu Tingchuan as a gift.
Back then, he had held the hairpin and sworn he would never betray me.
Things had changed. Luckily, they no longer stirred any feeling in me.
Lin Yuan'er shook his arm again, still whining.
“Just give it to me.”
“Thousand-year spiritual wood would help my cultivation so much.”
Gu Tingchuan frowned slightly.
Before he could find an excuse,
Senior Brother beside me scratched his head.
“Seriously? Begging like that for one hairpin?”
Senior Sister couldn’t stand it either and turned to warn me. “Little Junior Sister, when you choose a dao companion, never pick a stingy one, got it?”
I held back a laugh and nodded.
Gu Tingchuan overheard and glared over angrily.
“What do you know?”
“That hairpin is made from thousand-year spiritual wood—rare in the entire world!”
Senior Brother whispered to Senior Sister,
“Thousand-year spiritual wood… is that the kind we use for pills?”
Senior Sister shook her head.
“Nah, we’re not that poor.”
“We use ten-thousand-year wood for pills. Thousand-year stuff is for heating the kang.”
Gu Tingchuan looked like he’d heard something ridiculous and sized Senior Brother up and down.
Senior Brother clicked his tongue.
“What’re you starin’ at?”
“Keep starin’ and see what happens.”
Senior Brother reached for his sword.
Senior Sister quickly tugged his sleeve.
“Forget it. We just got here—don’t start a fight.”
Lin Yuan'er covered her smile with her hand. “Maybe Senior Sister Mingxi just can’t bear to part with that hairpin?”
Gu Tingchuan started, finally noticing me behind Senior Brother and Senior Sister.
“Mingxi… is that you?”
