Chapter 16 The Confession

After returning to the Heishui Sect, we started preparing to welcome the new disciples.

One of the new disciples pulled me aside with some gossip.

“Did you know? Canglan Zhenren got kicked out of the Wentian Sect for his conduct.”

“I heard he flew into a rage and crippled Lin Yuan’er’s cultivation. She fought back, detonated her golden core, and injured him badly too. Both of them ended up half-dead.”

“Then some guy came and took Lin Yuan’er away. From the look of it, she won’t be cultivating again.”

My feelings were all tangled up as I walked back to my cave.

Then I saw the little fox bouncing toward me.

Just seeing him made everything feel lighter.

“Mingxi, Mingxi! Do you still remember our promise?”

“We said when everything was over, we’d each tell the other a secret.”

The little fox blinked his big eyes.

I nodded seriously.

“Then let’s do it now!”

“Three… two… one!”

In the next instant, the little fox transformed into human form right in front of me.

And the first thing out of my mouth was, “I want your fox fur to knit a scarf for my senior disciple!”

“…”

The boy froze.

His fox eyes filled with tears in a heartbeat, and they started falling.

“I… I like you…”

“But you… you just want my fur…”

“I’m never speaking to you again!”

I grabbed his wrist before he could storm off.

He turned back, looking wronged.

I opened my mouth. “So… are you still giving me the fur? I already bought the knitting needles.”

He stomped his foot. “Yes! Yes! All you care about is the fur!”

I let out a quiet breath of relief.

“This is good, though. You finally transformed.”

“Your parents must be thrilled.”

He suddenly leaned in close, narrowing those pretty fox eyes.

“Hey. Are you playing dumb on purpose?”

“I said I like you.”

“What about you?”

I scratched my head and looked away.

His beast ears twitched, and a huge grin spread across his face.

“You like me too, don’t you?”

Right then, my senior disciple’s voice rang out from outside.

“Mingxi! Come pick snow lotuses with me on the mountain!”

I shouted back that I was coming and bolted.

He stayed behind, arms folded, with a triumphant smile.
