Chapter 4

. . .
Rae
Do I look as pathetic as I feel? I wonder to myself, just as I feel a presence to my right. My pulse quickens as the figure approaches, and I’m unsure of what to do with my hands or how not to look like I’m waiting around for someone’s attention.
I wish I had pockets on this damn dress.
My gaze snags on a pair of perfect brown globes that look like they’d make the perfect resting place for my head. The visitor stops in front of me with a disarming smile, and I hope she says something first, or we’ll just be staring at each other.
“I was hoping I’d meet someone interesting tonight—looks like I just did,” she says.
Thank God.
I chuckle nervously, “Um—I wouldn’t call myself interesting, but thank you.”
“I couldn’t help but notice you in this dress. It’s incredible, if no one has told you tonight.” She replies with a smirk, eyes dropping to my cleavage, down to my hips that are wider now that I’m sitting, and back to my face.
I chuckle nervously, “uh, thank you. I’ve been looking for an excuse to wear it.”
She looked at my tits. She could be into girls … or not.
I probably should’ve asked Lila if there were any specific spaces here where queer people go to meet each other. She could very well be friendly and not interested in me at all.
Everybody stares at boobs.
I mean everybody.
Her sultry voice yanks me from my anxious thoughts, as if she can read my mind.
“So, what brings you to Lilith’s?” She asks, keeping the conversation going while being a little nosy.
I don’t mind because I’m nosy too.
“Oh, um. Yeah, I’d like to get more comfortable talking to women.” I pause, taking a sip from my stem glass.
She lifts a brow. “Well, how’s that going for you?”
“Better now,” I answer with a sly grin.”What about you…” I trail off, hoping my gorgeous guest tells me her name.
Her brows shoot up, and she places her manicured hand on her shimmery chest as if she just remembered something. A green bracelet sits upon her wrist, and my mind travels back to what Lila said about the colors.
Green if you are open to whoever or whatever.
“Forgive my manners. You can call me Vikki or Vik,” she says, extending her hand to me. “Whatever rolls best off your tongue.”
Oh my god, I think to myself as I join her soft hand in a firm shake.
“I-It’s nice to meet you, Vik.” I start, clearing my throat as if it’ll clear my nerves as well. “I’m Rae.”
“What do you do for work? And play?”
“I’m an Executive Director of an interior design firm in Jersey.”
“That accent isn’t Jersey, though. Lemme guess,” she ponders, scrunching her face in thought. “Baltimore?”
“You were close. D.C. Born and raised,” I answer with a soft chuckle. “I hear New York,” I suggest with a squint.
She confirms with a nod. “Brooklyn forever, but I’m a Senior Exec for an adult toy manufacturer in Manhattan. Don’t ask me what I actually do there, because it's not nearly as entertaining as it sounds,” she jokes.
My lips part to speak, but nothing comes out. I fear I didn’t hear anything she said after ‘adult toy manufacturer’, and I won’t ask her to repeat herself.
“Now, Rae,” she starts, leaning close so I can simultaneously feel her breath dance across my chest while her breasts press dangerously against the black fabric of her dress. “If you don’t close your mouth, I might make use of it.
Oh my god.
She doesn’t waste a second to ask, “Would you like that?”
Yes, please.
“Uh-yes. I would,” I stammer. I probably look as out of depth as I feel. But fuck it. If she’s leading, I’ll follow.
“We’ll see if you behave,” she says, straightening herself so her chest is directly in my line of sight. But I keep my gaze on hers, entranced by her cognac irises.
Vik is fucking gorgeous. Goddamn.
“I may surprise you,” I quip, hoping my flirting lands.
New plan for the night.
Get Vik to use me.
“And I love to be surprised,” she says, serving it right back to me. “Have you ever played with a woman before?”
I freeze as her bluntness catches me off guard, her head tilted curiously as she awaits my response. Her use of the word ‘play’ is unique, but it shouldn’t be difficult for me to answer her question.
Yes, I think to myself. Say that out loud.
I ignore the blood pounding in my ears and will myself to speak.
“Yes, but—”
A deep baritone interrupts, stealing both of our attention. She whips her head around with a quizzical look that softens when she recognizes the bartender.
“Hi Vik. More Chardonnay?” he asks, stealing both of our attention. My gaze flicks back to her before landing on him once more. While I’d been mulling over what I wanted, every coherent thought appears to have left my brain at the sight of this stunning woman.
As I’d hoped, she takes the lead.
“One sec, Richie,” she tells him, shifting her focus to me. “Yes, please. And another round for her.”
“Merlot, please?” I respond with a nod.
“Thank you,” She purrs, removing a bill from her purse and sliding it toward him.
“You got it,” he says, immediately grabbing the folded bill before turning to grab whatever accoutrement is required to make our drinks.
“Sorry about that. You were saying you’ve been with a woman before,” she reminds, urging me to continue.
“Yes, but—not since college.”
“It’s just like riding a bike or licking an ice cream cone,” she suggests, retrieving our glasses from Richie, who doesn’t bat an eye at this conversation. “Pleasure is nothing you have to be shy about, Rae. I’ll go easy on you,” she adds, amusement in her tone.
I stifle my nervous chuckle as she hands me my wine. I take a sip and consider my response.
“Would you?” I tease, liquid courage flowing through me.
She nibbles on her lip as her eyes engulf me.
“I would if you need a refresher course. I’ve been told I’m an excellent teacher.”
Say yes.
“I think I’d like that,” I state, training my face to be calm as I am internally screaming.
She hums, enveloping me in her warm and comforting scent as she leans closer.
“Would you like to go somewhere a bit quieter?”
Say yes.
“Yes,” I blurt, embarrassed by how eager I sound.
“You’re cute,” she tells me with a chuckle as she stands, extending her hand out to me. “Come on, I know a place.”
And for the second time tonight, I follow.
