Chapter 23 Mia

The darkness when Jax puts the camera away fills me with dread.

Such a strange choice of knot. A blood knot. That’s a difficult one to tie on a door. You need access to both ends, and if it’s around an object, it’s hard to do. A hitch would have made more sense.

I picture the knot in my mind, the blue and the yellow. It appears to be a classic blood knot, the yellow rope going into the blue coil, and the blue rope going into the yellow.

But something about it feels wrong. I hold the camera and fuss a second with the settings. Yes, it’s like the old DVRs. I can pause it and rewind to view the recording.

And I see it. What bothered me. The yellow and blue lines going into the coils are slightly thicker than the coil. It’s not the same rope.

He’s wrong. That’s not a blood knot at all.

It’s a trick.

“Jax! Wait! Don’t pull on it!” I yell into the phone.

But it’s too late.

The windows blow out as an explosion rocks the house.
