Chapter 16
Barnabus screamed in pain as he landed on his office floor. He slowly sat up, wondering how the angel had managed to cut him over and over. His mimic powers should have been able to match the warrior angel’s skills.
That was another thing: how he came away from each fight badly wounded. He went to call for his shaman when he realised the coward had run away.
He picked up his mug and threw it against the wall in anger, the mug shattering into a million pieces and flying around the room. A piece of broken crockery slashed his hand on the way past.
Barnabus looked at it, scowling. “For every drop of my blood that has been spilt, I will make you pay a thousand times over,” he shouted.
Battle had fun. The training session was brutal, but he and his team had safely rescued the ‘hostages’.
“We need a pub,” Robin said, walking over to Battle.
“We really do,” Rex, one of their gargoyle teammates, added, joining them.
“We can ask Blake. I’m sure he won’t mind,” Battle said.
“Did I see warrior angels earlier?” Magnus, a dragon teammate, asked, walking over to them.
Battle nodded. “You did. My mate wanted me to have extra protection. We got him down from a legion to twenty. I’m to meet up with Maletayah in a bit, so don’t be surprised if our team soon includes one or two angels.”
“I’ve heard their wings can turn to metal. I’d like to see that,” Julian said, walking over to them having heard their conversation.
“I’m sure we can ask whoever joins our team to show us, as we’ll need to know everything they can do so we can use that to our advantage,” Robin said. He looked at Battle and grinned. “For instance, I never knew a wolf could bring down a fully grown dragon.”
“Yeah, how did you do that?” Magnus, the dragon in question, asked.
“That won’t be happening again, my mate cheated,” Battle replied. “Sorry, Magnus.”
“Don’t apologise. I was momentarily startled at how strong you were.”
“Thanks to my mating with Zeus, I am a lot stronger than before; my eyesight has been enhanced, so has my hearing, plus I can shift back and forth with my clothes on. And umm, I’m now a demigod and can’t die.”
Stunned silence met his announcement.
“If it helps, so are Jason, Frederick and Brook,” he put in quickly.
“This pack just gets better and better,” Julian said, grinning.
“It’s certainly interesting,” Robin said.
“I need to find Maletayah and meet his angels,” Battle said.
“I think your new bodyguards are walking this way,” Magnus told him.
Battle looked around and saw Maletayah leading his group over to them. “Perfect timing, Maletayah. We’ve just finished our training session.”
Maletayah bowed his head. “My Lord, meet your bodyguards.” Maletayah introduced all the angels.
“Hello, thank you for protecting me. Please call me Battle, and you don’t need to bow. Let me introduce you to my teammates,” Battle introduced them all. Shiloh walked over and joined them. “And this is Commander Shiloh Sweeney; he is in charge of all the defence teams.”
“Hello, Commander. Lord Zeus asked me to protect his mate, so I will be joining his team, along with Mika, Dayton and Fil,” he looked at Shiloh, Julian and Battle. “Is that alright with you?”
“That’s fine,” Shiloh said. “You’re the leader of your angels; should you not stay here and oversee your men?”
Maletayah shook his head. “Yes, I am their leader, but I will be protecting Battle when he goes out on missions. Raffy here is my number two. While I’m away protecting Battle, he will be here overseeing things.
I can also assign angels to the other two defence teams, and the rest will stay here and help protect the land and the kings. ”
“Understood, and that will be helpful. Thank you,” Shiloh said. “Do you have mobile phones, so I can send you the training schedules?”
Maletayah nodded. “We do.”
Battle laughed. “Somehow I wasn’t expecting angels to have mobiles.”
“As soon as they were invented, Zeus made sure they would work in Olympus. Lord Hades did the same in the underworld,” Maletayah told them.
“The dead have mobiles?” Robin asked in surprise.
Maletayah laughed. “No, but demons do.”
“So much to learn,” Battle said.
“You’ll get there. No one expects you to know everything straight away,” the angel said kindly.
“Thanks.”
