“So, I kind of have a surprise. I know you thought Milo’s was our date but I decided to extend it and take you somewhere special. I hope that’s okay.” He stares at me, waiting for my answer.
“Yeah, that’s fine, but where are we going?” I ask confused, my bones rattling from the gust of wind. He looks both ways before crossing the street and then pulls me by my gloved hand.
“I can’t tell you. It’s a surprise. Now close your eyes!”
I take a few steps and follow him blindly, trying to keep up with his large strides. Finally, we stop and he says, “Okay, you can look now.”
I’m standing in front of K.J. Mason bookshop, an old brick building wedged in between a barbershop and an antique store. A small white sign hanging inside the door reads closed in bold red lettering. Another paper inside one of the windowpanes lists their hours. I blink at him and tilt my head.
“I think it’s closed. They’re only open 8:30-2:00 today.”
He smirks and holds the door open for me. “I think they made an exception for us.”
“Kai, what are you—" but I can’t finish my thought. I’m transfixed by the scene in front of me.
The main overhead lights of the bookstore are off, but there are a few smaller lamps turned on and fairy lights strung across the ceiling, in addition to the electronic candles that are sitting on every shelf and flat surface.
There are two massive bean bags that could probably fit four people leaning up against the back shelf of books, complete with plush blankets and colorful pillows.
And directly in front of me is a circular table adorned in white linen, rose petals, and votive candles with chairs on either side. The table is set for two.
I’ve been in this bookstore before, many times.
I know exactly what the interior looks like.
He did this, all of this for me. I can feel him behind me, his thick stubble tickling my cheek.
As he wraps his arms around my waist, I cover my mouth to stifle my gasp and tears.
I lean into him, letting him embrace me. Letting myself have this moment.
“Kai, how did you do this? When did you do this?” I whisper, still slightly in shock.
“I talked to the owner of the bookstore. I convinced him to let me use it for the price of what it would cost to open and maintain operations for the day. I set all this up late last night and this morning. We can hang out and look at books and the best part is you can take home whatever books you want. As many as you want. On me. We’re having dinner delivered to us here.
I can only stay until 5:30 but you can stay as long as you want.
There will be a car here to take you home when you’re ready,” he replies, nuzzling my neck.
“So, what do you think. Do you like it?”
“I don’t even know what to say. I love it,” I stammer, turning to him and sliding my hands up his chest and around his neck. “This is the most thoughtful thing anyone has ever done for me, Kai,” I admit.
“I would do anything for you,” he says, glancing at my lips before his eyes flicker back up to meet mine.
And before I have time to talk myself out of it, I’m bringing his face down to mine, kissing him with intensity and hunger and pushing him backwards until his boots meet the edge of the industrial sized bean bag.
“Sit.”
He does as instructed, pulling me on top of him.
We start laughing as our bodies collide and as soon as his hands touch my skin, it's like it’s been set ablaze, something predatory and primal unleashed.
Both of our jackets hit the floor and we don’t have time to think.
Everything we do next is purely reactionary, trying to make up for years of lost time.
He’s unzipping my jeans, his hand sliding underneath my shirt and across my rib cage, under my bra to cup my peaked nipple.
I nip at his neck, my teeth grazing the sensitive skin on his throat, while I roll my hips against his jeans.
He’s already thick and erect. The material separating his hard cock from my wet, pleading center is at the same time too much and not enough.
I ache to feel him inside me again, to be full of him almost to the point of pain.
To have nothing separating our bodies, except the space between our heartbeats.
My hands move frantically as I attempt to remove his belt.
I’m trying and failing to think of a reason, any reason not to do this with him right now.
But need and longing and carnal attraction win out over any sort of rational thinking.
“Ken,” he breathes and a switch in my brain flips on. One of us has come to their senses, thank god. We stop kissing, both of us breathing hard. He leans his head against the bookshelf, his hands gripping my thighs and his face seems torn.
“I don’t think we should do this here. I mean, I’m sure there’s cameras in here and we haven’t been together like this…” he trails off.
“It’s okay, you’re right. We got ahead of ourselves. This was probably not the best idea. I don’t know what I was thinking,” I murmur, sliding off his lap and fumbling around for my shirt. I find it and pull it over my head, suddenly feeling embarrassed.
