Chapter Two The Beginning of Something

Not long after takeoff, the cabin was quiet.

A flight attendant came by offering drinks, and Simone made sure Camille had everything she wanted before ordering for herself.

Camille playing with the controls on her seat.

“This seat is amazing,” she said.“You’ve said that three times already,” Simone replied.

“Because it is.”Simone laughed softly.Camille spent the first part of the flight watching movies, looking out the window, and occasionally talking Simone’s ear off about everything she wanted to see once they landed.

Eventually the excitement started to fade into sleepiness.

The cabin lights dimmed. The sound of the engines became the only steady sound.Camille was talking about something when her voice started to soften.

Simone looked over. Camille’s head had leaned gently toward the window. She was asleep.

Simone smiled. Carefully, she reached for the folded blanket beside her.

She shook it open quietly and leaned over, covering Camille.

She blinked, half awake. Camille looked down at the blanket.

Then back at Simone.“You didn’t have to do that.

”Simone smiled.“Go back to sleep.”Camille looked at her for a second, like she wanted to say something else.

But the sleepiness won. She just smiled.

“Thank you.”A moment later she was asleep again.

Simone leaned back in her seat, looking over every now and then just to make sure the blanket hadn’t slipped.

Outside the window, the sky was dark and endless.

Paris was still hours away. Simone rested her hands together and leaned back in her seat.

Before she knew it, she was asleep. They slept for most of the rest of the flight.

Occasionally getting to use the bathroom or say a few words.

Then, the cabin lights slowly brightened. A soft chime sounded overhead.
