Shame!
That word defined me perfectly in that moment.
Colin and I were in his car, driving toward my place. I hadn’t said a single word since what happened, and I honestly had no idea where to hide my face. The shame was unbearable.
“It’s rare to see you this quiet. I’ll admit—I kind of like it,” he said.
I stayed silent, staring at the windshield, trying to process the embarrassing scene I’d made just minutes ago. God, I’m such a needy idiot…
“You know, I don’t blame you for what you said. Alcohol has a way of messing with people’s heads sometimes.”
Idiot!
I kept my mouth shut, shrinking into myself. I worked for Colin—how the hell was I supposed to face him on Monday after this?
“I get it. You want to stay quiet. I’ll give you—”
“You’re an idiot if you think the alcohol made me say that!” I practically shouted.
That’s when I realized the car had already stopped. When I looked out the window, we were in front of my house. We’d gotten there faster than I thought.
I didn’t know why, but Colin was looking at me in a way I’d never seen before…
