Chapter Seven #2

As much as I joked about not really wanting to go back to college and basically being a PE major, that was more because my parents pushed me into it.

Pick something easy, so you’ll have more time to play hockey.

I think I’d like to study investments. I’d been doing all right learning on my own, but it might be nice to learn more.

I had a nice little portfolio for the future Ashton and I were building together. Especially if we ended up adding an omega. That was the future we’d seen for ourselves from the very beginning. Maybe we should’ve been a little more discerning. I thought Charlotte had been the one.

So had Ashton.

After years of clarity, and meeting Kai, it was very clear that Charlotte wasn’t it.

Poor Kai. Her ex was an absolute moron. I hope he got eaten by whatever ate people in Bali.

Ashton kissed my forehead. “Stop being in your head.”

“It’s a lot of pressure, going to finals. It’s really easy to look at it as, We’re all the way here we have to win, rather than, We’re all the way here. Let’s savor every moment and what happens, happens. We should be happy because we’re further than we ever thought we’d be,” I confessed.

“Some habits are hard to break.” He kissed me, stroking my face.

True. Ashton had caught me checking my phone many times after a game and frowning because part of me still hoped for a text.

“If your parents do ask for tickets, you don’t need to say yes. If they can’t love you when you lose, why should they get to love you when you win?”

I laid my head on his shoulder “You’re right.”

“I like to be right.” He grinned.

“That's my line,” I teased.

He was the one who was usually conceding to me. We’re both intense in our own ways. I was just louder about it.

Ashton kissed me, pushing me against the wall of the shower as the warm water continued to spray down on us. We had a fancy shower with water coming in all directions from various showerheads so that nobody would get cold.

His hand found the bottle of waterproof lube we kept in the shower. We continued to kiss as his fingers moved around my body and started to work me from behind.

“I love you. It doesn’t matter if we win or lose, if we find someone, or not we always have each other.” He kissed me again, as his cock slid into me, my back pressed to the shower wall.

A gasp escaped my lips. I held onto him tight, as he thrust in and out, his beard tickling my face as we continued to kiss. My back felt the cool press of shower tiles while my front was warm with Ashton. Kissing him, feeling him thrust inside me over and over, made me swell with love.

Kisses peppering my neck as he started playing with my cock. I could feel how close we both were. Ashton came inside me, as I came in his hand–the two of us shattering in each other’s arms.

“Are you okay?” Ashton’s eyes met mine.

“I feel amazing. You’re amazing,” I breathed. It was a good end to a good night.

He hadn’t knotted me tonight, but he did sometimes. The two of us were alphas. We both had that extra something in the base of our cocks that swelled with arousal and when pushed inside a partner kept us together until the knot deflated.

For a moment, I just continued to hold him, anchoring myself.

That’s what Ashton was–my anchor. That was part of what had drawn me to him back when we played on rival teams. He was a calm presence.

Ashton was that good player who was there to play his best, have fun, and hopefully win, but his parents took him out to dinner regardless.

With quick efficiency, Ashton grabbed the shower gel and lathered me down, washing me off. I did the same for him. I washed my hair, but he didn’t wash his tonight. His luscious locks had a whole routine.

Turning the water off, Ashton got out, grabbed a towel and tossed it to me, then got one of his own.

“Are you hungry? We really didn’t eat much,” he asked as he pulled on some sleep pants in our bedroom.

“I think I’m ready to just go to bed,” I replied as I did the same.

The two of us climbed into bed. Ashton put on his reading glasses and opened his book. He was reading a thriller right now.

I doom-scrolled for a few moments and realized that we never got Kai’s phone number. But I found her profile and immediately followed her.

She posted a picture of us in the bar, and I saw a bunch of positive comments. I replied, Tonight was fun.

My parent’s account was picture-perfect.

They were very concerned about appearances, so that was always a good way to track them.

Look at that. They hadn’t been paying attention to the playoffs because they were on a really long international cruise.

That made sense. It's kinda hard to be proud of somebody if you didn’t even know what their game schedule was.

I looked up a couple of things that Kai talked about so that I could be more intelligent during our next conversation. Also, I glanced at the arboretum map for a bit trying to familiarize myself with some of the different exhibits.

Finally, I put my phone away and turned off my light.

Ashton gave me a kiss. “One more chapter.”

It was never just one more chapter. I lay my head on his chest, and he moved his book to accommodate it. Closing my eyes, I went to sleep, excited to meet with Kai tomorrow.
