Chapter Nineteen #2

“Unless you have something really important planned, yes. I feel bad that you brought me along, but I keep going out with them,” I replied honestly.

Auntie Kiki waved me off. “We brought you to get over your ex. If that's playing hide the sausage with two hockey players well…” She waggled her eyebrows.

Mortification filled me. “Auntie, please don’t ever say that either.”

“What? Spring break is for fucking.” Auntie Cookie shrugged.

So it was.

“I’m going out to coffee with Ashton later and we might do something with Steven, but it won’t be too late, since they do have that big game tomorrow.” I took another sip of my lemon drop.

“Do you have their information? Long distance relationships are a thing,” Auntie Cookie asked.

“So are spring break flings,” Auntie Kiki countered. “Have fun, but don’t let them break your heart–or lose focus on your education. Degrees before D’s.”

“Um, thank you for that, Auntie. Yes, I'll stay focused. And I do have their numbers. I don’t mind just being a hookup. Like you said, spring break is for fucking. I have to focus.” Part of me didn’t want to just be a hookup, but at the same time there was no way that a long distance relationship could work. Also, I barely knew them.

It wasn’t like we scent matched or anything.

We laid out by the pool, swam, and had lunch. The aunties went off to go shopping, but I declined, because Ashton was going to pick me up soon.

My brother messaged me.

Big Bro

Now that you’re single, let’s go on that graduation trip?

Me

Yes!

Big Bro

Great. What about visiting me in LA? If things get weird we’ll just go on a road trip? Maybe up the coast like we used to?

Me

Not sure if I’m ready, but I’d like to give it a try.

Big Bro

Whatever you need. I’m here. We could always start really small. Like you come to LA, stay a night, then we leave on our trip.

Me

That could work.

I think I could do a night.

Big Bro

Um, those guys…

Me

Spring break fun. They’re great.

Big Bro

Okay. Just be safe.

Me

I am.

Big Bro

More worried about your heart. Love you.

Me

Love you, too.

I was worried about my heart, too.

The lab group chat had exploded, and I went to check in, wondering if this was about Raven’s #amithevillain post.

I couldn’t help but feel a bit of delight as my lab group reported all the gossip on my former friends. Drea hadn’t paid attention to her passport expiration date and was detained at the airport.

She and Logan also had found out that they no longer had return flights. Several unknown numbers had called me. I looked at the transcript of their messages. It was all Logan’s mom yelling at me for ‘how dare I cancel his plane ticket that he never paid for’.

My phone rang again and I answered it.

“Why shouldn’t I cancel a plane ticket I was never paid back for? Especially since it was a ticket for someone who stole my trip and cheated on me?” I spat into the phone.

“Is this Kai? What do you mean, Cheated on you?” a male voice asked.

“Yes, this is Kai. I canceled Logan’s return plane ticket because I paid for it and he never paid me back, which he was supposed to.

He canceled my plane ticket without my permission, and used the refund to buy his sidepiece one, and then uninvited me from the trip I planned.

I canceled her return ticket, too, because that was my money.

I also canceled the hotel, because I paid for that.

Call it vindictive, but he doesn’t get to spend my money on other people, especially since his mom seems to think I’m using him for his money, which I’m not.

I’m also not paying for a trip that my boyfriend and friends excluded me from,” I replied.

“Sidepiece? Who is he cheating on you with?”

I didn’t know who it was. Logan’s dad maybe?

“A freshman named Drea. Turns out he’s been feeding her the lunches I make him.

He’s missed things for me saying he was ‘studying’ and he’s really with her.

He’s been lying to me for the entire year.

Oh, and, he stole from my bank account so that he could pay for things for her on said stolen trip.

I have screenshots,” I added. “Who is this?”

“It’s Drea’s father, and yes, could you send me screenshots, please? My daughter’s telling me a whole different story. I didn’t even know she was going to Bali. She said that she was staying on campus to study,” he said.

Drea’s dad? Oh, that’s good.

“Let me send them over.” I sent him screenshots of what she sent me and her conversation with Logan about stealing from me and leaving me behind.

“I didn’t cancel the plane tickets to be malicious. I canceled it because he didn’t have permission to cancel my ticket and buy her one.” Okay maybe I was a little malicious.

“You paid for and planned this vacation, and your boyfriend and friends simply left you behind, and gave your ticket to someone else?” he asked.

“Yep. I thought they were my friends. Logan and I have been together for close to three years. I spent months planning this. They were all supposed to pay me back and no one did. Drea wasn’t actually invited on the trip originally.” I sent more screenshots.

“I’m so sorry that my daughter did this to you. I didn’t raise her this way. She told me a whole other story, about how you planned the trip but couldn’t go at the last minute and then you got upset that they took her. But now I see that’s untrue,” he said.

“I didn’t know they were taking her and going without me until they were already on their way. Also, Drea is really good at making herself the victim. I'm not trying to insult your daughter, just stating a fact.” I took a screenshot of the charge for the plane ticket and sent it to him as well.

“She gets that from her mother. I’ll handle all of this. Where do I send payment?”

Wow, he didn’t demand that I give her the return ticket back? He didn’t berate me? I sent him the QR code for my payment app.

“Did you break up with him?” he asked.

“Yep. Drea can have him,” I replied.

I got an alert that he sent me the full amount. Nice.

“Thanks. Is there anything else you need from me? I actually warned everybody about the passport thing and was told I was annoying and a nag.” Not that Drea was part of that conversation, but I’m sure she heard them talking about it.

My phone rang again. I was pretty sure it was Logan’s mom… again.

“I’m very sorry for my daughter’s behavior. I didn’t teach her to steal other people’s alphas or plane tickets. I hope you’re having a good spring break,” he said.

“Thank you.” I ended the call. I tapped on the incoming call just for funsies.

“How dare you reverse the charges? Now he’s left stranded with no plane ticket and no money?” Logan’s mom yelled.

“You always said I’m after his money. He can use that.

If you contact me again, I’m going to file a restraining order.

I’m saving all of these voicemails. I’ve broken up with your son and none of this is my fault.

He stole from me, so why wouldn’t I have the bank reverse it?

I will be filing a police report for theft as well.

You’re his mother, you can take care of him now. I’m done.” I ended the call.

I probably should’ve filed a police report when Auntie told me to before we left for Nashville, but I could do that now.

Lying on the bed, I went through my email, replying to a few more things. The hotel and airline were refunding me everything. Nice.

I noticed an email from Logan’s advisor. He was asking for my side of the story. Quickly, I answered all his questions and added some additional screenshots, including his mom’s harassment.

According to the lab group chat, Logan and Drea were posting all these woe is me photos, painting me as the villain. Though people were calling them out in the comments for expecting me not to cancel their tickets, all things considered.

Taking a particularly juicy message from his mom, I reduced it to a sound bite that made her sound absolutely insane.

I took a picture of myself and used that as the sound and posted it with, When your ex’s mom yells at you because the bank refunded you the money her son stole from you to pay for his sidepiece’s vacation.

Then I posted it.

While I was at it, I went online and filed that police report for Logan’s theft.

I got a text from Ashton.

Ashton

I’m on my way.

Me

Can’t wait.

I went to see what to wear, because today I was feeling cute. Thanks to the shopping spree with my aunties, I just might have an outfit for that.
