38. Chapter Thirty-Eight #2

“This was really just a warm-up. It’s been a minute since I’ve killed anyone, Benny.

” He screams louder after my admission. “I think that’s enough for that one.

Oh, oops. That was all of your toes on that foot.

Time for the other one. Don’t want you to bleed out before the grand finale!

” I snicker as blood covers every surface, including parts of my face.

I’m careful not to allow it into my mouth.

The last thing I want is to drink from this rotten human.

As I sever the toes from his other foot, he keeps going in and out of consciousness.

I rush to the most important part before the kill.

I strip his pants off, revealing his tight, white briefs.

“Ple..Please. Do…Don’t do it.” He says, his conscious fading.

I cut the underwear off of him and before pulling the boning knife from my opposite sheath out, I slide into a pair of latex gloves.

I grab his flaccid micro-penis and testicles into one hand, placing the boning knife on the opposite side, furthest away from me.

“You’re going to bleed out before I’m finished, but I just want you to be aware.

You thought hurting her would make you feel powerful and in control, but all it did was teach me exactly how easy it is to step in and erase something that never should have existed.

” I slice through the meat with precision.

His appendages fall into his lap. “Night. Night.” I rip the latex gloves off, dropping the knife, and plunging my dominant hand into his chest cavity.

He’s long gone before I make my move, but this is closure.

My hand rests on his barely beating heart.

I wrap my fingers around it, feeling it give a slight pump once or twice.

I rip the last essence of his soul from his body and look at it sitting in my hand.

I give it a squeeze, watching as the blood drips from my palms down to the floor beneath my feet.

When the job is complete, silence falls.

I didn’t even notice a final gasp, but there he lays in the recliner, unconscious, bloodied and beaten.

Negative ten toes. Negative dick and balls.

Negative heart. And I look at him with strong satisfaction.

This wasn’t just revenge. This was protection for my divine clarity.

I leave him there, a broken predator, as I’ll always do to anyone who dares fuck with my Elowen.

This scumbag doesn’t even have clean towels so I grab the nearest sheet and wrap it around the organ, leaving it on the table like a gift for his family.

The only remnant that will be left behind.

They will come looking and find a clean home, completely organized and in top-tip shape.

Only his dead heart rotting on his kitchen table.

I will always protect her. I wash my hands to the best of my ability in his sink, but decide that a stop at the shop for a quick shower may be in store.

Outside, the night air is cool, and I let it wash over me. My thoughts drift to her. Elowen. My beautiful girl is safe and protected. That’s what matters.

I strip my clothes off in the car and bag them up.

I have plenty of time to schedule clean up here, get myself cleaned up, and head to grab a matcha and a bite for my beloved.

Traffic bad or something? They made your drink wrong and I couldn’t leave until it was right.

Telling a white lie won’t hurt. Being a vampire?

Currently a truth she doesn’t know. Killing Benny?

Currently a truth she doesn’t know, though she had been thinking about doing the same thing.

The list is getting longer, but one day I can tell her. She’ll get it. I know she will.

I open my phone to the contacts app and start a call. “Giuseppe, 911 West Glen Court in Darkwater is in need of your expertise. Leftovers are available. Consider that your payment.”

“You got it, boss. I can be there with Yvelia in twenty.” Giuseppe Russo, a new vampire, was turned by a friend after the poor boy decided to have one too many drinks right outside Johnny’s liquor store and nearly killed himself with how much he drank.

Thankfully, the liquor store is close to us.

One of the women-regulars in the speakeasy found pity and wanted to save him.

Yvelia, who has been coming to get the same drink every night for the past year, works at GG’s dinner down the strip.

She has always been the recluse type. She reminds me of Matteo in that manner.

We abide by laws, but I’m not a babysitter.

I didn’t question if she was really sure about him being the one she chose to turn.

Yvelia is her own being. A powerhouse of a woman.

She resided in the Caribbean until her mentor moved to the states.

Now, she lives in a duplex on the other side of Silas lake and works late shifts as a waitress for the diner.

She actually said she found the speakeasy through listening to the words traveling through the grapevine when she started there.

Not very incognito if people are wondering about the ruckus, she said to me during one of our first encounters.

She had no issue blending in as a newcomer to Darkwater.

She quickly set up shop and received her job within just a week of being here.

I like to pick at Russo about what she says she noticed first when she found him that night.

His poor nose. I don’t know if he took a good crack to the face or if he fell drunk too many times.

From what I hear, they’re really happy together.

He does have a thing for going out of his way to make amends though.

Like he has a personal vendetta to be a good person.

I put him to work as my problem solver, though. He has a knack for cleaning up messes.

I swipe the last drop of blood off my cheek whilst looking in the mirror.

The relationship between Yvelia and Russo causes my mind to wonder.

Could I ever picture myself asking Elowen to transition?

Would she want to? Or would she be similar to Itanya in that manner and ward off any chance to get forever?

I can’t think about this right now. I need to go take care of Elowen, vampire future or not.

With one last glance at myself, I decide a shower might be best. A stop at the store to shower in the loft then I’ll run the errands needed before returning. Elowen might not notice. If she does, we’ll get there when we get there.
