DOV

A roar of fury escapes my chest.

I hadn’t been fast enough to stop him. Too many lengths of corridors, of stairs, and closed doors lay between us.

A whole universe of space that I’d been unable to cross.

How I’d wanted to wrap my large hand around that son of a bitch’s neck and squeeze.

My utter helplessness made me believe myself capable of reaching through a solid wall and changing the course of events.

He had his fingers inside her while she’d been begging him to stop. He’d taken out his filthy cock and exposed her to it.

How dare someone do that to her?

I’m on the move now, stalking through this old building like a monster in a fairytale. Ravaged by time and fury.

Why did we let him slip past us?

No, he didn’t just slip past. He was welcomed into this place, and so now my rage branches in multiple directions. I will deal with that problem later, though.

My anger flares so brightly, I fear it might just burn this whole place to the ground. Perhaps that’s exactly what I should do. To stop the yearning and suffering, to end, once and for all, the cycle of pain that happens here.

The hotel feeds from it, I’m sure.

I hadn’t known the stranger would be here tonight, so I’d planned to pay her a visit myself as she’d slept. Because of this, I also know she’ll be unaware of my presence. I tell myself that’s a good thing. She’ll be unaware of the lengths I’m willing to go in order to protect her.

I won’t be able to protect her forever, though. Not from this place, or the people inside it.

And most of all, not from myself.
