CHAPTER 6 #2

He growled low in his throat and I knew he was close. “I think about it endlessly.”

“Do you wonder what it would feel like to have your dick in my mouth while Jamie watches?”

He inhaled sharply, exhaled just as fast. Over and over as his fist raced over his dick.

“Come for me, Cav. I want to see you come.”

“Son of a bitch.” Cav came hard and fast, his breaths sawing in and out of his lungs as he did.

I was frozen in place, my cock so fucking hard it hurt. But I didn’t move. Hell, I couldn’t.

It was in that moment that I knew something had shifted between us, and it was only going to get better from here.

The question was: when?

Jamie

Thursday, October 25, 2018

Cav: I’d like to take you out.

That was the text message I was staring at as I sat in class, listening to my professor drone on and on about … well, to be fair, I had no idea. I’d been zoned out for most of the class, my mind preoccupied with thoughts of two sinfully delicious Doms who had somehow taken up residence in my brain.

Since my MacBook was tied to the same account as my phone, the text had flashed across the screen, mesmerizing me. Unable to resist, I hit reply.

Me: I’d like that, too.

Cav: When and where? You get to pick tonight.

A stupid grin split my face.

“What are you smiling about?” Jonah whispered, leaning toward me.

I toggled back to the screen with my notes as I shook my head, my eyes shooting back to the teacher down in front of the class. Last thing I needed was to be called out for disrupting. Professor Sylvia Mills did not take kindly to interruptions, and I couldn’t say I blamed her.

Thankfully, there were only a few minutes left in class, so Jonah wouldn’t have to wait long. I knew him. He would want details.

While I stared blankly at my computer screen, I couldn’t help but think about Edge.

We hadn’t talked since the night at the club.

I still didn’t know what to think about what had happened when I said good night to him.

He had looked at me so deeply, I thought for a minute he could see into my soul.

Then he had walked away so callously, as though I meant nothing to him.

I couldn’t help but think he’d written me off after that.

Otherwise, wouldn’t he have called or texted?

Then again, I hadn’t reached out to him, either. I had his contact information, so it would be easy to do. Sadly, I didn’t know what I would even say. Since I was having breakfast with my brother tomorrow, I was hoping Zeke would fill me in, give me something to go on.

When class finally dismissed a short time later, I placed my laptop in my messenger bag and pulled out my phone. Jonah was on me instantly.

“Okay, give it up, Lautner. Was it him?”

Since I’d already given him a rundown of my date with Cav—although I hadn’t actually used Cav’s name—he knew I was smiling because of a man.

However, he had automatically assumed it was Edge since he had been the topic of our previous discussion.

Tiffany had followed through with her plans, ganging up on me with Jonah to get as many details as she could about the club.

“Are you going out again?” he asked as we walked down the hall.

“It looks that way.”

He squealed, making me laugh.

“What?” he asked when I shot him a look. “I’m single, remember? Which means I get to live vicariously through you. And if you’re going out with a hot Dom, so am I. Where’s he taking you?”

I shrugged. “He said it was my choice.”

Jonah clapped his hands giddily. “Oooh. So many choices.” His hazel gaze locked on my face. “Where’re you going?”

“I’m not sure yet.” But I did have an idea. For whatever reason, I wanted Cav to be the first to know about it, so I played it off with Jonah.

“Damn. I’ve got to get to class,” he said on a huff before pulling me in for a hug. “You better not hold out on me tomorrow. I expect all the deets.”

“Of course.” I chuckled as we pulled apart.

With that, Jonah hurried off, and I headed for the parking lot, texting Cav as I went.

Me: You up for something adventurous?

Cav: Mmm. I like where your mind’s headed.

Me: Rock climbing?

Cav: You’re on. Pick you up at seven?

Me: I’ll be ready.

I was ready by seven o’clock when Cav appeared at my door wearing shorts and a T-shirt.

“You know it’s cold outside, right?” I teased as I pulled on my jacket over my yoga outfit. I’d opted for a sports bra and leggings, figuring I might as well take this opportunity to tease the man a little. After all, just seeing him was a tease for me.

His heated gaze raked over my bare midriff, remaining there until I hid it beneath my jacket.

Those devastating baby blues shot up to my face, and he grinned. “I’ve got a jacket in the truck if I need it.”

“Since I have every intention of getting you all sweaty, you might be all right,” I joked as I grabbed my keys and my phone, tucking them into my pocket.

“Sweaty, huh?”

“Yes, sir.”

His head jerked over to my face, his eyes imploring me. “What?”

He shook his head, then opened the door.

It wasn’t until we were walking to his truck that I realized what I’d said.

I had called him sir, and since that was an honorific often used in BDSM, he’d taken it in a different way than I’d meant it.

A trickle of heat skittered into my bloodstream.

If I could make him look at me like that again, perhaps I would be calling him Sir in the future.

A few minutes later, we were in his truck and I was giving him directions to the indoor rock-climbing facility I’d gone to on a few occasions.

“You good at this?” he asked as he steered into the parking lot.

“I wouldn’t say I’m good.” I laughed, completely relaxed in his company. “But I can hold my own.”

“What’s your time?”

I frowned. “My what?”

“Your time. You know, how long it takes you to scale the wall.”

“Which wall?” I asked, trying to stall.

He cut his gaze to me briefly. “Intermediate.”

I waved him off. “Oh, you know, I don’t really pay attention to that.”

Cav’s laugh had my insides warming significantly.

“Right.” He grinned widely. “But you can hold your own.”

“Yes,” I insisted.

Another raspy chuckle sounded. “We’ll see about that.”

Yeah. We would.

I had called ahead to ensure we would be able to get in. Turned out Thursdays were a relatively busy night, so it was a good thing I had. After a quick rundown of safety tips from the assistant, we were harnessed and ready to go.

For the next half hour, we scaled the rock wall, talking as we did.

Although it appeared he wasn’t exerting any energy, I felt every muscle in my body tightening.

Since I did go to yoga routinely, it wasn’t as bad as it could’ve been, but it certainly wasn’t easy.

I’d only been here twice. Once for Tiffany’s twenty-second birthday and then again when Jonah had needed something to take his mind off the breakup with his last boyfriend.

That had been eight months ago. It was safe to say I was out of practice.

“It’s always good to get a warm-up in,” he said casually.

I glanced over, noticed the way his eyes glittered with mischief. He was on to me. Since it hadn’t been a race, I knew Cav was allowing me to make it to the top at my own pace.

Because he was sweet like that.

It wasn’t until we were back on firm ground that he turned to me. “One more time?”

I glanced around, noticed there was no one waiting. “Sure.” Hopefully, my muscles would hold out.

“Want to make it interesting?” Cav asked as he got a good hold on an extension.

My attention stuttered on the bulge of his bicep, the way his shoulder muscles bunched. I remembered how he’d looked at the club. I had memorized all the sleek muscles in his upper body, and I suddenly had the urge to run my tongue over them. Slowly. And more than once.

“Cupcake?”

“Uh…” I jerked my gaze back to his. “Yeah. Sure. What’d you have in mind?”

He peered up toward the ceiling. “If I get up there first”—his eyes locked on mine—“you get to treat me to dessert. My choice.”

“Your choice?”

“Yep.”

“And when I win?”

He grinned, a sexy smirk that made my insides quiver. “I get to treat you to dessert.” His voice lowered seductively. “My choice.”

I laughed, more to cover up the tremor of awareness that raced down my spine. This man was dangerous.

“You’re on,” I said when I could speak.

He winked.

Then we were off.

For the record, I didn’t stand a chance. The man scaled that wall as though he’d been born to do it. I hadn’t even made it halfway up when he was ringing the bell. So much for chivalry.

Not that I minded. As far as I was concerned, it was a win-win for me. I was out on a date with him, and the night wasn’t over yet.

In fact, I got the feeling it was just beginning.

CAV

“I’m startin’ to wonder if you let me win,” I teased as I linked my fingers with Jamie’s and stepped out into the relatively cool evening.

Her laugh was so sexy. “Seriously? I didn’t make it halfway up.”

“I know.” I opened the passenger-side door. “I thought for sure you’d be a challenge.”

Jamie leaned in close, her breath fanning my lips in a daring move I honestly didn’t expect from her. “Believe me. I am.”

When she pulled back, I chuckled. “I’ve figured that out already, cupcake.”

The night had been incredible already. Unlike our first date, there was no awkward silence or uncertain glances.

We’d gotten that out of the way, and tonight was all about enjoying our time together.

When she’d mentioned rock climbing, I’d been pumped.

Although she’d tried to play herself up as experienced, I’d known the instant we stepped inside that it was all an act.

I waited while she got settled in the truck, then closed the door and joined her on the other side.

“So, where to?” she asked as she clicked her seat belt in place. “You won fair and square. You pick, my treat.”

“I’m in the mood for … a cupcake.”
