Chapter 23

The bitch was going to pay.

I growled under my breath as I watched Larry trying to break the lock on my ex’s apartment.

Even I couldn’t believe she was whoring herself out to a fucking pig. Who the hell did she think she was? I’d backed off too far.

She felt too safe. Obviously.

I was still pissed she’d left me. Even more so now that she seemed to be raising some other asshole’s kid. I never wanted kids and the bitch knew that.

I knew she’d been cheating on me.

When I’d come back to that apartment and she’d been gone that night. I’d seen red.

I’d bided my time. Furious throughout the divorce proceedings. Let them slap me on the wrist and signed on the dotted line.

I’d been watching though. Always watching.

Larry was ignorant enough to be my faithful dog. Following her. Keeping tabs on her. I’d been fine with her living in fear. Leaving little tells that I knew where she was. What she was doing. Small apartments where she never felt safe enough to settle down.

But now she was getting brave. Letting that fucking cop defile her. Right on her living room couch. Not even closing the curtains. They’d both been so into each other they hadn’t even noticed me in the shadows.

Watching. Always watching.

That had been three weeks ago.

I’d had to make the trip myself this time.

It was time to make the bitch pay.

“Let me try,” I said, finally shoving Lawrence out of the way. Jostling the handle harder with the crowbar. We’d only managed to make the doorknob hang loosely.

“Why you gotta be such a dumbass?” I growled at him.

“You’re the one that kept saying to push harder!” He glared.

We’d already been under Rebecca’s window trying to get in that way.

I heard a loud engine coming down the street.

“That may be them. Just give me the envelope. It’ll scare her enough.”

Larry rolled his eyes and reached into his pocket.

His eyes widened in panic.

“It’s not here! It must’ve fallen out.” He made to go left down the outside hallway towards the back of the building and Beck's window.

“I really gotta pee!”

I tensed, hearing my ex wife’s voice.

Larry looked at me in panic.

It took everything in me not to turn around and confront the bitch there.

I pointed towards the trees and we ran.
