Chapter 32
“Paul! Paul?” I yelled into the radio. “Don’t you fucking turn the radio off.”
I could barely understand what he’d said. The static was too strong to make anything out. I threw the radio onto the desk and stood up, shoving it, causing it to make a loud screeching noise across the floor.
“GOD DAMMIT,” I roared.
“Marshall,” Nick warned, coming over.
“No, fuck you. They're out at the Paxton farm,” I said, heading toward the door.
“Man, wait! I’m getting some units on the way.”
I didn’t stop. I didn’t slow down. I was going to bring Rebecca home. I was in my truck, and starting it in seconds, speeding down the road, with my lights and sirens going. Paxton’s farm was twenty minutes away from the station at least. I could make it faster. I had to make it faster. I had to get to her. Paul couldn’t go in alone.
“Dammit!” I yelled into the cabin of my truck. This impossible situation was a nightmare. What the hell had he been thinking going out that far alone? But fuck, I wouldn’t have been able to sit back and wait either. Part of my heart clenched. Appreciative of the way he wasn’t waiting around and was stepping up to help my woman, but I would be lying if I said I wasn’t terrified of what I was going to find. Fear gripped me as I sped through the city towards the outer country road leading to the farm.
